Any McGill fags here?
Do you know how hard it is to get in? I'm French
>>8961197
McGill fag here, depends what you're going into but on the bright side, if you do get in it's comparatively really cheap for Quebec residents.
>>8961212
What are you studying?
>depends what you're going into
Probably CS or something related. I don't know if that's very competitive.
>>8961197
Pretty sure McGill has the highest acceptance average of any canadian university, being in quebec helps, - unless you have a near perfect gpa you probably won't get a scholarship.
fuck off plebs
>>8961225
Seriously? I thought that, being Québec's best university, it was really selective, especially towards French students.
I don't mind not getting a scholarship, actually I don't mind paying full price for my education.
>>8961234
Sorry i phrased my answer wrong, I meant 'McGill has the highest average for all applications/ highest application standards'
>>8961242
Ooh. That makes more sense.
Do you know of any other good universities located in Québec (not Canada in general)? Is the University of Montréal system (HEC Montréal/Polytechnique Montréal) any good?
>>8961244
My knowledge of quality Quebec schools is limited to McGill and Polytechnique (ENGring) everything else I say would be hearsay. You should pursue McGill though, it's a really good school.
>>8961254
Sure I'll apply to McGill but I need a backup plan, so Polytechnique seems like a good alternative.
Thanks for your advice.
anyone at uvm?
>>8961153
i almost went there
where do you live anon?
>>8961216
I'm doing my masters in information science (Library shit). I'm not sure how competitive it is but I know a few people in the masters program that are doing really cool computerized eye programming things.

>>8961256
What are you applying to?
>>8961260
I was planning on applying to that. What kind of background did you have?
>>8961277
Music actually. You can come in from wherever, but you might have an edge if you know any programming.
>>8961278
Consider Concordia as well. They have a good Comp Sci program. McGill's is very theory based.
>>8961287
>Concordia
Thanks, I will. Is it reputable outside Canada?
>>8961278
It's feels more like a professional program than a masters, and I'm way less busy than I was in my undergrad so it feels a bit odd. Overall it's more a means to an end than anything that inspires a lot of passion.
>>8961153
/philly/ here. trust me, I walked by Jefferson once and it was way worse.
>>8961293
What do you plan on doing afterwards?
>>8961271

>>8961299
Orchestral or music librarian, or if that doesn't pan out there's some surprisingly lucrative work in the corporate sector you can get with this degree. Plus I'm bilingual so government stuff is more available as well.
>>8961292
I think most places will simply look at your GPA and what side-projects you have going on at the time of your Master's application. If you feel like you want the reputation for your degree as well, then choose McGill over all (in Quebec at least)

the thing about ole miss is it can possibly be considered the least /fa/ and most /fa/ at the same time. Bitches wearing yoga pants/nike shorts and oversized Greek shirts really kill it sometimes. A history degree from a mid-tier school is pretty worthless, it's actually worth something from a school like Harvard. I'm not a savant, there's no way I'd go into STEM if I got into a leet school.
It's all a pipe dream anyway, I was never suited for the arts or a top university.

Yeah, I can see you're an angry arts major who has realized that your degree is worth about as much as the toilet paper you wipe your ass with.

i'm not a commuter, but that's what i hear from my commuter friends as well. A large portion of the student body are commuters though, that's why our campus empties out on weekends. If your less than 30mins away from campus do it by all means, i dont think theres much difference between someone who lives on campus and someone who lives on campus, you just need to try a little harder to make friends/join clubs.

Not him, but I can answer. I recently graduated with an HBA in English Literature.
When I applied and was accepted (~5 years ago), I had an 89% average in my final year. Everything before your final year is not really looked at, and things that are not relevant to your major will not be paid much attention either. If you want to get in at the St. George Campus you will need a final average of over 80% probably, but can still get in as long as you are above 70%. For UTM and UTSC, it just depends on how many people apply that year, I had a friend who got into UTSC with an average of 68%.
Your first year would be general studies because you don't pick your major (or as U of T calls it your 'subject POSt') until the end of first year. Don't go to school with your major already stuck in your mind, take classes that interest you and make your decision after you have some experience in the school.

Toronto is the biggest city in Canada at about 2.5M and 6M in the whole GTA. If you're just set on going to U of T, you're golden, the easy programs like social sciences let you in with low 70's. Other programs require higher averages, the hardest to get into being Rotman Commerce with high 80's-low 90's. Honestly, if you just wanna live in Toronto, it's easy. There's also York and Ryerson which are waaay easier to get into, and it's not like your school's reputation for undergrad (in Canada) is super important. If you're just looking to live in a cool city with culture and whatnot then Toronto is perfect, but if you're looking for a party scene I recommend Wilfred Laurier or Western.
>>8973561
I think the reason behind the lack of partying and stuff is just because it's harder to find. It's a huge school, a lot of people are commuting (still living at home), and of course the school's good reputation attracts LOTS of international (read: asian) students who aren't there to have fun. To be honest, I am thinking of changing schools. Toronto is amazing, but as a poor college student I'm not always at /fa/ shows and concerts and making sick cops like I wanted to be. It's amazing, but for someone in my situation I'd probably prefer the smaller city feel.
University of Michigan studying economics. Some of the Asians are kind of effay, but eh. It's a school in the midwest, you can't really expect too much.

>>8973561
Welp. I guess I'm going to have to raise my marks /a lot/ if I plan to go into finance (ala Wolf of Wall Street). I think I'm too much of a dumbshit to study in the US, so I guess UofT or some other school with international recognition is good enough for me.
I'm doing okay in most of my courses except math (77), but hopefully I'll make it to 90 or so by the end of the course. Some of my classmates told me I can drop out and take the course in a private school for ez marks; universities aren't dumb and they'll catch onto this, right?
Anyways thanks for the insight man, /fa/ is pretty cool sometimes.

Every fucking fit reminds me of middle school. The chicks are all 7s, but because everyone is ugly here they become 10s. The guys all wear the same pair of shit sperrys and skinnys.

But we have a lot of the generic shitprep and fratcrap.

Can confirm, it's horrible. Dadcore / MFA-tier is praised as well-dressed, spergs and weebs everywhere. At least a couple punk / indie lookin kids here and there do OK.
>>8975543
I dunno what part of campus you walk through, but it's bad.
Also, all the chicks who look half decent dress horribly by wearing those stupid knee high leather boots like that one pic.
Girls are yoga pants and sweatshirts for the most part. Guys are usually either southern prep or look like they don't give a shit.

Update on trip: went to arc'teryx and totokaelo. Both were fantastic and more than I expected. Got to see and feel most of the current Veilance line. Holy shit everything was so light, no holes or imperfections anywhere. The down jackets were packed perfectly and evenly. Totokaelo was definitely my favorite though. It was fantastic to finally be able to see and feel everything I've been looking at forever in person. So many amazing designers tones of Rick, Dries, MMM, Junya/CDG. Also some Jil, Ann D Yohji. The Jil and Dries knits were the most impressive pieces out of everything there the mohair and wool they used was so thick and soft but still the attention to detail was still there in full effect. I had never really liked Ricks shoes as much as most people but seeing them in person they seemed less clowny and oversized. There was many other popular shoes including some last season Rafdidas. I was honestly really blown away the girl there was really nice and the store itself was beautiful. I fucking love this city.
