Looking to get started with techwear, was just wondering on what you guys reckon is a good jacket to start with. Probably looking at a softshell but all opinions are welcome. So far thinking bout TAD Stealth Hoodie LT, Aether Stormy or the Isaora 3L shell. Pic is Stealth hoodie
>>
>>8279177
eh. The tad softshell is prob. the easiest point of entry.
Also pretty cheap if you're willing to go the counterfeit route(Plenty of people on ebay selling them for $60)

Just remember the style only looks good on avg or taller people who are underweight.
If you have even a bit of flab on you, it just makes you look like a fucking mass effect cosplayer.
>>
>>8279252
>willing to go the counterfeit
You're retarded. Techwear is all about the actually functionality of the piece of clothing as well as paying these prices so the item lasts for years to come. Not buying some fake shit off eBay, might as well go to yestyle.
>only looks good on avg or taller people who are underweight
Okay, everything looks good on those people...? Don't listen to this guy OP. Who know's what you look like but even if you have a bit of weight on you the jackets and shells are good at hiding that.
>>
>>8279279
Yeah, this guy is totally right! Go out and spend $500 on a softshell that may only be in style for the next 9 months! And if you're a fat neckbeard, dont be discouraged! Like skinny jeans, its fashion for EVERYONE!

Seriously >>8279279, are you retarded?
>>
>>8279279
>Techwear is all about the actually functionality of the piece of clothing

no, it's about the functional aesthetic. otherwise you would wear actual hiking stuff or actual sailing stuff.
>>
>>8279300

>Go out and spend $500 on a softshell that may only be in style for the next 9 months!

uhm, what the fuck?

>Like skinny jeans, its fashion for EVERYONE!

uhm, what the fuck?
>>
>>8279279
delusional fat-richfag.
1.TAD is expensive because its using proprietary synthetics and canadian manufacturing. The generic chinese shit isnt as nice, but they're still good quality jackets.
2.Fat people cant into certain fashion trends. Sorry to be the one to tell you that, piggy, but you'll never look good in stripes or chucks.
>>
>>8279252
>>8279279
Money isnt much of a concern and i agree that theres no reason to get tech if they gonna be fake. Are there any other jackets around this price range /fa/ would recommend? i am 6'1 and bout 75kg so tall and skinny I guess, not that it really matters much. Thanks for replies in advance
>>
>>8279312
Its called sarcasm... I was being sarcastic.
just to be clear... DONT go out and spend half a grand on a fleeting fashion trend... and dont be fat(period) but if you are, dont try to be effay because it'll just be a waste of your [limited] time.
>>
>>8279300
>implying that all techwear jackets are ~500$
>>8279314
Not fat, nor rich. Just know how to spend my money.
>>
>>8279321

I know, but how did you decide it's going to be in fashion for the next nine months? what decides if it's in fashion or not? what happens if you wear it when it's out of fashion? is there a guy that Xs out little pictures of clothes who decides what the new fashion is? if you don't keep up, will people spill starbucks on you or something?
>>

>>8279317

>>8279279
I just wanna get into techwear, you can argue that most fashion trends are fleeting anyway but /fa/ is still gonna spend $$$ on clothes. Money is not the concern here, I just want opinions on what is a good techwear softshell.
>>
>>8279336
Are you illiterate? Where did i imply anything OTHER than the legit TAD jacket was $500?

Congrats! I dont do military contract work, so i dont think i need a jacket that meets milspec. You think thats a worthwhile investment? Congrats on your awesome, actionpacked life. I'm not rappelling down canyons or spending 6 hours in a downpour waiting for my target to leave his villa so i can capture him. You must be, since you're under the impression you need a jacked that is capable to function in those conditions.

If you dont though, i'm sure you're kicking yourself for buying a jacket thats 8x as expensive as my knock off... my knock off which was more than enough when i wore it with a wool sweater during a -50c(with windchill) deep freeze.

But whatever, i've spent enough time trying to advise people on how to use their money.

You don't need TAD gear.

Although I'm not a big fan of softshells you should look into Arc'teryx Gamma LT Softshell.
>>
um.. you guys realize the tad jacket is popular because of airsofters, right?

You might think its cool techwear, but the majority of people who recognize it are going to assume you're just a lazy scrub whos wearing his paintball or airsoft equipment out in public. I mean why else do you think all the reviews on them link back to airsoft community forums?

Yeah a lot of people have said that.

It's a nice material though. It's satin and has a similar texture to the windbreaker I'm wearing so they complement each other nicely. I think saying that it "ruins the fit" is a little bit of an over reaction.

What are the pants and shoes?
>>
>>8283776
Jacket is a NorthFace P-8
I've been pretty happy with it so far. Held up well and not too hot which is a big thing for me because I'm often riding in it and Australia is always warm. Had it for about a year and no signs of wear.
>>8283939
Pants are elastic cuff chinos from Grand Scheme (Australian brand). They look good when they're clean and they are comfortable as hell but they get covered in lint and crap so quickly. I don't wear them out to parties anymore because if I sit on a couch my pants turn grey. Do not cop. Go for something else.

Shoes are all black Air Max 1s.
I like AM1s so no complaints.
>>
>>8285268

I'm a fucking sweaty mess when i finish my 10k's... Like i can literally wring out a cup of sweat out of my underwear... and thats running with just underwear and shorts on(and obviously socks and shoes).

>>
>>8287929
wow this is a really good find, pretty set on buying a pair. i'm normally 30x30 (asian, go figure), and 30 length ends like exactly at my ankles; do you think these would work for stacks if i get them longer, or should i stick with the usual?
>>
>>8281457
>http://swrve.myshopify.com/products/black-cordura-skinny-fit-jeans

Hey, Jackson
>>
>>8287422
I would never run in this. I ride in it during the colder months but I'm never riding that far. I have a backpack when I ride so if I get to hot I can just take the NF off and shove it in there.
I don't really see the point in buying fashionable running gear or gym gear. I wear Lowes shorts and a Kmart tee to the gym with some battered freeruns that I bought second hand for $20.

>>8288866
http://www.workingclassheroes.co.uk/
Bought it on sale so it ended up costing about $140 if I remember correctly.

>>8289051
My name's not Jackson...

>>8286112
I don't cycle very far and I don't for a second consider myself a cyclist ahaha. Usually to friends houses or to the train/tram station. It does get kind of hot sometimes but as I said above, I can just take layers off. Good fit for when it's raining though.

What's the idea behind bicep pockets? I see them on a lot of military related gear, so does it have something to do with that?

It just seems like a bizarre place to put them. Even forearms are less awkward if you need to stick a pocket on the arm.

But why biceps and not forearms, and why on stuff that isn't connected to tactical use in any way?

AFAIK, Marmot has no government contracts and no tactical line. But there's a bicep pocket and no much-more-useful Napoleon pocket.
>>
>>8292329
they do have forearm pockets. Check out OP's pic again.

Cant really speak to marmots decision here... other than saying its prob. just trying to 'copy' the military design.
I agree with you, btw... its a lousy pocket to use. You cant put anything thicker than a phone or some papers in it without it feeling/looking weird.
>>
>>8292402
I wasn't even paying attention to the OP pic, just something I've been wondering, but I've only seen forearm pockets on TAD and Acronym.

Hey guys. Anyone else get their Commuter Cargos that I'm pretty sure tons of us ordered the other day?

I got mine today and they're amazing. I had the funnest time pouring water over the leg and watching it skip right off. Literally the only problem is I'm tiny, and they're not tapered quite as much as I was hoping for. But I noticed that on me, the silhouette is sort of like the ACR P-10s', roomy in the thighs but not as tapered down the leg to the ankle. So now I want to get them tapered sort of like that, but I'm scared. Would most tailors be able to work with a pair of pants like these?
>>
>>8292834
You guys seriously need to calm down about commuters + tailoring. Not to be that guy that claims to be o.g. or something but it just SEEMS like there is a strong correlation to when I posted a lot with my *tailored* cargos, to these tech treads just becoming 'levi commuter cargo tailoring advice general'. It's actually gotten to the point where I actively avoid these threads.

Don't get me wrong, they're great pants for the price point but they aren't some sort of holy grail.

point being you guys shouldn't be afraid of trying something different, even if it doesn't have the hivemind's seal of approval.

Short & stocky though, make me think you'll end up looking ridiculous.

Lose the weight first. Dont buy any nice clothing until your frame is ideal for your size... then go all out, knowing that if you turn into a fat fuck again, you'll be out 1000's of dollars worth of expensive clothing.

/fa/'s been aware of/looking for commuter cargos long before you posted that, I think the main reason more people are inquiring about the tailoring is because of that sale. I got them because they seemed pretty solid and I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on most technical clothing. I personally would rather them just be a bit less baggy, but probably not as narrow as how you got yours done. I guess it is appealing to a hivemind but that's almost what this entire board is about.

Just a general question - is techwear/dystopia-core/anarchy-wear popular from where you live?

In Aus, I can say it's not very common at all, so wearing it won't seem like too much of a copout or jumping on the hype train.

I can see places like the UK and Germany being extremely popular for it though...especially amongst IDM and techno listeners, but that's just the vibe I get from it.
