It's called gold cap, actually. It's a much thicker layer of gold, you can see in this photo how it's a visibly thick layer. But yeah, I guess I should throw my grandfather's watch in the trash because someone on the internet is angry about it. You seem upset.

What's your opinion on this
>>
>>12612465
It's pretty plain for my taste and I hope it's no more than like 40mm diameter at the most because that watch design is going to wear like a dinner plate strapped to your wrist. But it looks pretty respectable and Timex is probably the best option at that price range and their chronos especially are a pretty good value. If you like it, go for it. I'm not usually a huge fan of meme straps, but there's a style of nylon straps called Perlon which I think would look pretty nice on that watch if you want to add a little color to it.
>>
>>12612465
If you don't have $3,000 to buy an automatic version of what this is ripping off, then I agree with the anon above me, get it. I'm also not a fan of the strap, but that's an easy fix.

Hey looking for my first watch. I kind of know the difference between Automatic, Kinetic, and Quartz. I'm tempted by the automatic Seiko's you guys recommended. I'm looking at some on ebay (only approved buyers with more than 1000 reviews)

>how much would it cost to repair a automatic seiko? how much to repair a kinetic? how durable are these watches?
>>
>>12614534
What kind of automatic Seiko, if you're looking at the cheapest Seiko 5 models then you should just buy new because they're basically disposable. Servicing would easily cost way more than the watch is worth, you could even just throw out the old movement and drop in a new one when the time comes if for some reason you really want to keep the watch. Those 7S movements are dirt cheap.

As for kinetic and solar quartz, the solar ones are generally considered more durable and I think Seiko is phasing out kinetic slowly because it really has no advantages over solar. Regular battery-powered quartz is fine too though. Personally I don't see much advantage in solar over battery power, you only need to replace the battery every couple of years and it's not a big hassle.

I like this one without the metal links. Can I change that to leather or some other material straps whenever I want on most Seiko watches? because I see the brand new version of this watch is metal links.

Seriously there is no reason why you should buy a watch this cheap used. The previous owner will not have taken care of it, they're okay watches but they're not exactly heirloom pieces to pass down or buy and sell.

You can change bracelets with a springbar tool, they're really cheap and it's easy to do. Look up the width of the lugs and any strap of that width that you like will fit.

The thing with the movement - yeah, they bought it from Seiko but it was almost completly rebuilt. The original Seiko movement was based on many TAG patents tho. Piston wheel for example.

Too bad TAGs first real inhouse H01 watch looks like shit.

Anyway, is it weird for a watch to be worn by the wrist? Not on the wrist, ever, obviously, but right where the bone starts from the hand?
>>
>>12618786

I wear it tight to stretch out the leather. I'm in-between two holes unfortunately.

It's not 'weird' as much as it is wrong. I'm sure there are people who like it but the watch will move around as you move your arm and it might be uncomfortable to bend your hand if the crown digs into the back of the hand.

Should I just get a cheap watch for now, or save up some more money for a decent watch?

Or are there any good watches I can get for that price?

So poorboy here, I can't afford anything over 100$, I don't want to look rich I just want a watch with a cool dial color, probably replace the band with light or dark leather ones.

Among these choices which one do you like the most? I tried to stick to automatic, I just like how the Seikos have the clear bottom. Really the green dial is playing it safe since it looks the newest, but I'm really stuck on the gold dial with the 12 and 6 or the pink dial for flair.

This watch only has to last me a year or 6 months without a repair and ill probably just end up buying a better one. I don't do any hardcore sports or work with the watch on, its strictly for going out.

So I already have a gold plated casio digital, and a silver seiko, both of which I love, but don't match what I wear too much.

I was looking for a leather strap watch with a more minimalistic look for about $100, does anyone have any recommendations? I see this thing plastered all over promoted ads whenever I open instagram, but I figure it's probably low quality

I like 1 and 3 a lot.
Watches can last for years if you dont abuse them.
Honestly I like 3 the most because the numbers on 1 kinda look weird.

Note: If going out for you means suits and events instead of just hanging out or clubbing go 1.

Orient has some good looking ones like the Bambino.

I found it on ebay, just search Pink Dial Orient. Theres only like 20-30 results, ALSO there was this champagne colored one with roman numerals it was nice. Not really. There's way too many to choose from and hopefully if you're looking to drop thousands of dollars on a watch then you don't need 4chan to tell you what to buy because you're probably interested enough in watches to know what's good and what your tastes are. Even the poorfag guide hasn't been updated in a while, I think there's some questionable recommendations on there in my opinion.

Even if you don't buy mine, that is one of the better automatic 'minimalist' watches in the price range. If you bumped up the price a little more, a couple of the Bambino variations could fit the bill.

That shits hideous. Get a Seiko 5 or a Tri-Star Orient. They run from only 60-100$ and they are automatic so if someone tells you your watch is ugly you can sperg on them and tell them atleast yours is mechanical.

Also ignore people who tell you to only get expensive watches, what do they know they probably only hang out with snobs that care about dumb shit like that. IMO just buy something that is slightly above your pay grade, something that will impress friends not these 40 year old faggots with pensions to spend.

As I probably own the most expensive watch collection in this thread, I can say that this is absolutely true. Literally no one in the real world cares about your watch, except if it's some gaudy piece of shit that would be ugly no matter what it cost.
>>
>>12620670
I've had it since 2004 or so, so I don't think that exact bracelet is going to show up online.
>>
>>12622338
This is fairly true.

I've only ever had arrogant middle aged men comment on my nicer watches. Usually just asking how I could afford one. One even tried to explain how the bezel worked as a timer. He ignored me when I said I understood how it worked and went on to explain it anyway. Well there was one older dude I worked with, but he just liked watches and had next to no knowledge about movements or houses.

I would also like to note my "expensive" watches are only ~$1k autos, nothing that impressive.

Ty. Here is why I ask. I love my new watch, but the strap is too tight, but if I loosen it by one notch, it then becomes too loose and goes all over the fucking place. Despite that, the tail of the strap is a little hidden by the strap holders if loosened.

The way I have it in this pic, it looks nicer, but is tighter. And the tail is normal (it is a little shown, idk if you even know what I mean by tail, I can post another pic I suppose)

So unless I wear it incorrectly (the way I believe to be weird, which deep down, I know is not the right way to wear a watch) it is either too tight or too loose.

Here. This is what I mean by the "tail". See how it sticks out just a wee bit? It's too tight. And if I loosen it by one notch, it is too loose, and the tail will not show which ocassionally has the second strap holder move around.

I need to go back to the watch shop and trade in the strap for a different one I suppose.

You know, after owning this Omega in a professional setting for 15 years, you're the first person who ever criticised it

It's the 2002 Michael Schumacher Speedmaster racing. It's a carbon fiber dial and has the checkered flag as a homage to Grand Prix racing. One of the more unique Speedmasters, and it was carbon fiber before carbon fiber was cool

I appreciate your opinion though
>>
>>12630046
Probably noone is asshole enough to criticize it outside of malaisian anonymous papercraft board :^)
I just find design too cheap compared to omega standards
>>
>>12630061
True, however when I owned my gold Rolex my coworkers gave me so much shit.

I appreciate your honesty and I definitely see your point. However if you ever get a chance check one out. It's real carbon fiber dial and everything is very high quality, Omega standards.

It does seem a bit "cheaper", but it honestly is more of a niche watch for the owner to enjoy, less of a fashion item.
>>
>>12630046
2000 and 2001 are better imo. Still cool because it's a Schumi but it's not as cool as it's 2 oldest brothers. The Schumi legend one is cool on the same way, neat because if what it is but not as cool as the older ones.
>>
>>12630061
>Speedmaster
>Standards
Have you not seen all the special editions with Snoopy on the dial and shit? Anyways, my real issue with all the automatic Speedmasters is that the layout of three horizontal subdials closely spaced together is what really makes the classic Speedmaster. All the automatic movements have huge gaps between the subdials which make the watch look like a Chinese fake, and I'm not personally a fan of having the subdials turned vertically.

cheap (not in the good way like casio or timex) and a million different models so the quality control is most likely shit on a good few of them

Was thinking about the Ventura for awhile, would shoot for the automatic but didn't look as nice as the quartz, which looks better and slimmer.
>>
I have fuck-tiny wrists, but want a diving watch to round out my collection of field watches. What's a cheap automatic besides the Seiko SKX/Orient Mako/Ray? I like the Mako the most out of those three, but curious if there's anything else out there.

What should I wear with a Dunhill Millenium GMT? It being completely silver is throwing me off. It looks too flashy to be used with anything but a suit to me. I usually wear a Tudor Oyster Prince that is stainless steel and gold so it goes with a lot of different styles and on this I'm lost.

Just received three original Casio pieces. Almost impossible to find a metal bracelet for the dbx-110.

Breguet is more than acceptable but I doubt you actually own that shitposter.
Most skele watches are completely hideous garbage.
>>
>>12625588
literally every watch but the GS and the speedy are shit tier.

lemme guess you're around 35 years old, unmarried with no kids and waste your little disposable income on meme-tier watches to post on reddit?

sorry man but there isnt really any bands for integrated watches like that. Its a retarded practice designed to make you buy the preprietary straps from the manufacteror rather than from someone else.

very nice, do you have a bracelet for it?

Nah, honestly, I wouldn't know were to look for one, just wear it on the NATO. Mostly use it for hiking, find steel brackets uncomfortable for it. I do have the PADI diver with the bracelet, use that for more formal occasions
>>
>>12631106
I actually really like the looks but I'd be very wary that they're trying to push some meh auto movement and charge out the ass like so many designer watches. what is this, a Kickstarter or something?

Just get one from AliExpress for like $5, that's probably where PANZERA gets theirs from anyway.

Does someone know a good watch up to 500$ with a moonphase, roman numerals and gold case. Something vintage that one would see in Victorian times. Style/inspo by pic related

Frederique Constant watches give this sort of vibe but they're far too expensive

Do it! Iconic, respectable diver. Just understand what a mechanical movement is and needs before you buy.
