After years of distro hopping, JUST WERKS trumps them all, m8. Use what you want, though. There are much more aesthetic WM/DEs, yes, and I enjoy using them, but Unity is comfy.

Your post was almost correct, but that ThinkPad doesn't have an IBM logo on it and is therefore not effay enough.
>>
>>10937396
Thinkpads are just so goddamn nice. Nice keyboards, nice trackpads, durable as fuck, etc.

My beater laptop is like 5 years old and still going phenomenally strong (thanks mostly to the SSD, which avoids the whole HDD dying bullshit)

It is true, the IBM thinkpads are the superior choice. However, I do occasionally need muh battery life and processing power, so I was forced to go with a more modern option.

>>10937435
Agreed. This one is 6 years old now; I copped it for $110 late december, it's been so damn nice. It came with an SSD, which has been fantastic; I had to buy a new battery, though, as the one that came with it was only at 60% original capacity. Total spending was $190, which feels like a total steal, considering how buttery smooth everything is on this machine.

>>10937443
Why aren't you ricing, pen0r? Don't you want your DE to look /fa/ as well? Greyscale that shit, faggot.

Who is this 4chan and how can I get my thinkpad approved by him?
>>
>>10937448
I've been distro hopping for a while; I've tried just about every DE and WM out there, from i3, to DWM, to Gnome, to ratpoison. I've riced them all, but eventually, I've fallen back onto Unity just because of comfy af gradients and purple + orange. Probably going to have a few different DEs set up in my login screen, or perhaps dual/triple/etc boot different distros. I dunno; for now, I'm comfy, and I like the look.

nope
Apple products are conspicuous consumption on par with wearing shit with SUPREME plastered all over it.
>>
thought I was on /g/ for a sec
>>
>>10937957
This, to be honest family. The Apple logo is indicative of tacky consumerism, not /effay/ /aesthetic/

Which is sad, because some of the actual hardware looks pretty nice; just look at the Powerbook G4, iPhone 4/s, or pic related.
>>
>>10937982
That design was a remarkably cool way of making macs appealing to general people.

I kinda miss transparent plastic like that. The era of that + the transparent GameBoy Color was kinda rad.
>>
>>10937995
Yeah, I really wish it'd come back. Not the iMac in particular, just the transparent plastic/cases in general trend. The insides of most computers look really fucking cool. Take the black cover off the iPhone 4's back, you get a beautiful view. I want more of that in the mainstream market.
>>
>>10937995
it was designed to look friendly so people that didn't own computers weren't intimidated

power PC was a gimped platform though, they really did it a diservice. Intel processors were so far ahead of them as far as performance it wasn't even funny

but the people who apple traditionally appealed to were people who were intimidated by myspace or placing a intel celeron into a socket
>>
>>10937508
Holy fuck are you me? I literally have the same laptop and wear that same hat nearly everyday.
>>
>>10938045
Well, PowerPC DID have an advantage over Intel for a little while, but it lost it well before Apple's 2005-6 switch to Intel.
And as for the Apple advertising to idiots, yes, that is partially true, but there's also a lot of Unix neckbeards who jumped on Apple in the late 90s to mid 2000s.

Still looks hella pretty, though.

>Running NSA/Windows Edition 10
The x201 has literal perfect Linux support. If you like *BSD, it's pretty much perfect for them, too.
There is no reason not to run Linux on your Thinkpads.

On top of that, Linux and BSD have access to the huge range of DEs and WMs, allowing for maximum aesthetics. Windows will always look shitty, because it doesn't offer the same amount of customization that Linux or BSD do.

Unless the reason is literally
>photoshop
>work at a company that requires Windows
Then I guess it's a sacrifice that some must make.
>>

Pls help get rid of appl and enter spaceage
>>
>>10939050
Yarp.

>>10939079
Just get a second cheapo one for fun. You can still do those things in less familiar interfaces in Linux, and the x2*0s are plenty fast for graphic and photo editing; less so for videos, but still good 'nuff.
>>
>>10938596
Works really great

>>10938610
I would go back to linux if I could but we have to use some windows only home made tools and I also use photoshop and illustrator literally everyday
>>
>>10937396
Tech should take up as little space as possible, if we're talking about status signalling. Buying stuff as big and flashy as it comes is prole-core, so the smaller sizes of iPhone (it's not a flashy thing to own anymore) are probably best when it comes to phones.

If you must work on a computer a lot, the Think Pad is #1. The aesthetics blend into any work environment, and it's been around forever, which satisfies the demand that high-class things have heritage. Being the laptop used in space is a pretty good point in its favor as well.
>>
Hey guise , these NEET has a thinkpad with unbutu , so much sweat i can smell it
>>
>>10939632
Well, as I said, photoshop is justified. Gimpfags are partially right, but learning Photoshop AND Gimp is hard as hell, and basically sucks ass. Godspeed with W10, anon.

>>10939692
This. I can't wait for the rumored 4 inch iPhone. I want a normal-sized phone again, so tired of the 4.5+ inch phones.

And yes. The Thinkpad is basically the best ever. For all reasons.

>>
>>10940544
What >>10940550 said about Edge is right. Shame the iPhone 6 looks so shit compared to the iPhone 4/s.

Also, laptops are mostly shit. Surface isn't portable, thanks to not-actually-laptop design. The rMBP is acceptable, but doesn't fit with some styles. Also makes you look like a hipster faggot.
>>
>>10940550
I have a friend who has one and edge isnt a meme in my experience, though I will admit iphone's are built better and feel better to hold. Android is catching up tho as exhibited by s6 and other phones i mentioned
>>
>>10937982
Tacky consumerism, as opposed to sophisticated consumerism, like buying expensive clothes.
>>
>>10940597
imo 6 looks miles better than the 5 and 4
>Surface isn't portable
wut
even if you don't like its design it's one of the more /fa/ laptops in the sense that it's ergonomically v good for /fa/ jobs; art, graphic design, architecture, etc.

Why though? Look at the bigass lines cluttering up the back. Look at the bubble-y design, rather than best brutalist design.

>ergonomically good
Try using it on your lap. Like an actual laptop. Thinkpad X2**T will serve you much better.

How doesn't the rMBP make you look hipster? It's got a bigass Apple logo, and it's full on neue Apple design.

I'm in the market looking for a new ThinkPad. Preferably within the IBM era. No trackpad. Never thought I'd ask /fa/ for tech advice, but I want another thinkpad because of this thread.
>>
>>10937396
anything that isn't directed at gamers or has ultra edge colorways (piano black with bright red accents). other than that as long as it's suited for your needs it should be fine. if you're in uni and don't give a shit about being a l337 HAX0R or playing games mbp and iphone is perfectly acceptable. if you don't like apple that's fine too but unless you're actually using your hardware you usually kinda look like a prick

>>10942210
The red and black color combo is my trigger. Use what you like, yeah, but what styles would a Thinkpad suit vs a MBP? Obviously Lunarcore matches with the TP, but what style matches MBP best?
