You guys are making the same mistake as early 2000s goth kids by conflating goths and rivetheads, and the many different genres of music they're into.

"Industrial" isn't just aggrotech and harsh EBM, and goths aren't just cybergoths.

There was like at least four waves of goths, starting with the early suit-and-tie Batcave dudes who listened to Goth Rock and Cold Wave, and ending with the current minimal-geometric urban ascetic ninja who listens to whatever has desaturated smoke and vectored triangles on the album cover. Between this and that you had a variety of combinations between punk kids, rivetheads, metalheads and goths per se, which ultimately blended into the "mall goth" aesthetic of the 2000s when the corporate media latched onto those trends and merged them together for easy marketing; which in turned spawned a few weird offshoots like cybergoths when it intersected with other shit.

Thinking back..

When I was a metal head during my teenage years, at the time of when scene/emo popped up, I hated it. I saw a lot of potential metal heads/goths at the time end up going emo for a few years, then completely turning hipster.
