Not really much to explain. If you want to look like a gigantic autist in public, you spend hundreds of dollars for techwear.

Only works in metro areas
Ideally north east coast
Don't bother in flyover country

No, not prominent enough. The fedora and trenchcoat are poor emulations of things that were much more common a while ago. I doubt kids in 2060 reminiscing about the classy 2010's will be thinking of techwear.

You have to separate the aesthetics and the functionality, both of which are referred to as techwear. It comes from cycling, outdoor and military apparel and gives it an urban look.

The aesthetics is black, drapey and uses water-resistant fabrics. No branding is preferred. Shoes somehow have not to be functional. It consists of a black hardshell, black neck gaiter, black cuffed trousers (chinos or slim cargos) and either some futuristic grey scale sneakers or military-style boots. A black backpack or messenger bag is common.

On the functionality side, use anything that gives more functionality than your usual pieces of clothing and you have techwear. That can be a merino base layer, a water resistant jacket that is still breathable and comfortable, well thought out pockets etc.

/fa/ mostly celebrates the aesthetics, but few people actually go for full ninja. Think of it as a basics fit with a modern touch and extended utility regarding activities/weather. Thats where you start, then you con move on to more fashionable/ninja pieces if you like.
