Has anyone ever tried to use a chainsaw (basically replacing the chain to drive instead of cutting) to drive a bicyle or go-cart? What's to look out for if one want to try it?

It's not the same thing, it won't work
>>
How would you gear it without killing yourself? Don't chainsaws go much faster than a bicycle requires?
>>
>>1166227
use a big ass drive sprocket

Nope, no one has ever done it.

Everyone in this thread is dumb and don't listen to them. I chainsaw has a centrifugal clutch and gearing is simple at ordering a different cog for the chain saw(to adapt it to fit a bicycle frame) and choosing the correct gear for the bike. The only real issue I see is that it will be underpowered and mounting it might be a pain.
>>
Completely doable and moderately easy with any mechanical knowledge. You can literally change the toothed-chain for a regular one, remove the blade and you're 75% of the way done.

CONTROLLING it will be the fiddly bit unless you mount it on the fucking handlebars and make a front-wheel drive bike.

Shit, that'd be pretty sweet.

proper gearing should make it doable

Needs a clutch. You can make a friction wheel and have it assist but it will die when u stop

>front wheel drive bike.

Rip anon.

Built a front wheel drive ebike. Mutherfucker was a death trap
>>
I think they had kits where you could attach a small chainsaw type engine to a bicycle. But there's no point, it's gonna stank, be heavier and generally worse than an e-bike conversion.

When I was a kid the McCulloch Pro Mac 10-10 was the engine of choice for go-karts.
(~10 hp)

I didn't get my choice so I settled for a 5 hp Briggs.

got two chainsaws?
