Are there any sewing kits I can get my hands on that aren't made out of the shittiest, cheapest materials known to man? Should I just put one together piece by piece to my own specifications?

May as well jump into this thread - if I want to sew 1000D nylon to make pouches, do I need some kind of heavy duty sewing machine or is it just about the type of needle?

i would get one for the case (if it has a good one) the replace the cheap shit with proper tools

yep its better to buy bits and pieces as you go think of it as a tool shed in a tin

In general, the type of needle plays an important role; but at some point you need an industrial machine. More pressure on the foot, better transporter, more rigid.
Anyway, for 1000D, an older all metal household machine should be enough.
You should, however have some experience in sewing, those points where you have to sew together 3 or 4 layers of 1000D Cordura, might already get tricky with a regular machine.
