I tried that RPGMaker game.
Honestly, it's very basic. You walk around, get items that allow you to spank (aka "screen turns black and you hear spanking noises") NPCs.
Other than that, it's honestly pretty bad, most quests are about going from A to B to A to B to A again, the shops are empty, and some encounters are bugged. Like that girl that I apparently can't spank because I don't have the level, and yet when I speak to her again, she's begging for mercy.

I've no idea why you think that. In fact, if you look at any TV show, you'll see different people writing scripts for different episodes. Videogames range from "one-man team doing everything from writing to marketing" to "different people write different parts of the same dialogue" (Pillars of Eternity had the characters Grieving Mother and Durance written by Chris Avellone)

If you are a single writer who has a whole book entirely inside your head, then you don't need anyone else, but writing as team project is standard fare in the industry.

Hanako is okay, but her route is meh. Shizune is my favorite, but her route is really boring, whereas Rin actually became my first waifu after I played her route. Yeah, that wasn't quite what I was going for... I was saying that there are sets of suggested settings, events, and character styles in that group. Also that there is a general premise along the top, but everything beyond that was undecided until someone who is good at stories can make a decision.

That way you can have a skeleton structure to work with as a writing prompt if you liked it, but you don't actually need to use them if you don't like anything.

My hope was that we could decide what to do about the vague bits if questions arose from anything specific. This is also why I am not developing anything player-facing right now--because I have no idea what will face the player.

Anyway, the main details are that you somehow come into care of a devil girl. The problem with her, and the solution (if there is one) is up to you, though the suggestions can work as a good starting point for setting, problem, events, and style if you choose to use them.

In-game text will be script, like any VN would be, so it would generally read first-person from the perspective of particular characters. So that would mean that we can either start from script, or extrapolate it from prose later on.

So, besides that, is there anything in particular you wanna know?

I really think that spankings don't make good gameplay, stat. At least not if your expectation to the game is to produce spanking situations that are exilerating enough to be erotic. I am actually currently working on a game like that (pic related)

It's in RPG maker, but it doesn't utilize any of the combat stuff. You play as a Maid and have to do housework. Doing your chores advances the time, and if you fall behind the nobleman whom you work for spanks you.

Image manipulation is one of my strong points, so here's a bit of a tip when cropping: Try using vectors (Paths in GIMP, Pen tool in Photoshop, etc...) and layer masks to crop things out. They can pretty much instantly make your crops look pretty much perfect. (Though be careful not to step on an artist's toes, some of them don't like it when people do this.)

Aside from the actual selection, which take a little bit of plying around initially (It's worth it though!), prefer to select about a pixel in from the outer border of what you want to crop, then draw along the vector--that way you can avoid white spots in your crop.

You can see at the far right under "Layers" that this is just the original image masked, and with an outline layer above it...and in the window below that, you can see the path outline that I made for the crop. The other window is the result of the crop--it's hard to tell that it ever came out of another image..!

The vector in that image is slightly smaller than the border of the Glaceon I was trying to crop, but I selected the darkest color in the border, and then stroked the path with that. The result looks very consistent.

I think the file should work as it is on its own. Just extract it, and run the setup (which will basically just extract another folder in the current directory) and you should be good to go. However, this is my first time making a game in RPG maker and I'm not entirely clear on all the details. A mask is basically a layer that sits on top of another layer to tell what is visible. White is visible, and black is not. This means drawing black on a layer mask does almost the same thing as deleting the area you drew, except with the important difference that you can "undelete" sections by drawing white on the layer mask in the places you didn't want to remove. On top of that, different shades of grey act like transparency depending on how dark they are.

Masking is very important when working with source image--it means you don't have to actually do anything destructive to the original image.

Now, the goal in my previous post is to draw a mask that will only let you see the part of an image you wish to crop. It is hard to make smooth and continuous lines without using vectoring to do it, which is why I mentioned that. Also, as a bonus, when you use a vector to mask an image, you already have a perfect outline of the border. This means you can simply "stroke" the vector to get a perfect border around what you cropped to make it look more natural.

1. go upstairs (stairs are north west on the map where you start), go all the way south. There's a bathroom. The vase in the bathroom is what I use as a laundry basket until I figure out how to add more graphics to tilesets.

2. That -shouldn't- be caused by using the debug console at all. You probably interacted with a thing where I forgot to call the event that clears the face. If you can remember which interaction triggered that please tell me, so I can fix it.

yes, that is something I do plan on doing. Right now the game is equal parts demo, proof of concept and self experiment. I wanna know if I actually can a playable game. I wanna find out if people would be interested in the kind of game I have in mind, and I wanna find out if the basic gameplay idea is tolerable at all. Once I have confirmed all of those, I can start to polish and elaborate, and hopefully write a proper storyline.

Unless it turns out I suck at writing storylines, which I don't know yet.

about your points about gameplay... I am keenly aware that currently it is a fairly boring affair. There's actually a couple of things I am really unhappy with (one of which being the fact that basically you have to dedicate 3 out of 4 timeslots to the daily tasks cooking and cleaning, so there's no decision making involved there at all if you wanna play it perfectly) and that's one of the reasons why I really wanted to get other people's opinion before I devoted more time to this project.

I have this issue with spanking art. I'm not actually into spanking, but for some reason the art is just way better in so many cases. I'm not sure why, it may be that showing the reddening on the skin requires a more detailed full body shading which makes it more appealing, but I'm not sure if that's it honestly.

I think having more interactions that are not chores would help as well so its easier to find yourself wasting time not doing your job and getting in trouble.

For people having trouble running it, what I did was delete the word after "RTP1 =" in the configuration settings and download the RPG Maker XP runtime package from the RPG Maker website, then paste the contents of what you get from extracting that (graphics and audio and stuff) into the folder with the game application. I'm not really computer literate so I might be making a convoluted mess of things, but that's what worked for me.

I feel like currently this is a result of the fact that a) the gameplay is not that good and b) the surroundings are pretty threadbare

Right now the only real motivation to play is to get to see the spanking scene that happens at the end of the week. In my ideal version that should not be the case. There would be stuff like "You went to the pub and got drunk, now it's afternoon of the next day and you haven't prepared the breakfast yet. His Lordship is outraged and immediately calls you to his study for a caning. But on the other hand, you hooked up with somebody last night, and they wanna meet again on thursday. Will you be able to do the groceries before your date?"

If I manage to set it up that way, I think the problem that the gameplay cycle feels really stretched out right now will resolve itself.
I think condensing it into one day with more chores doesn't really solve the underlying problem, and I'd only end up with the same situation in a differend dress-up.

other than that, I agree with what you say. More interactions and spanners that randomly get thrown into your works are also a thing I want in this game.

Well, the thing I started storyboarding was the "Kinky Tamagotchi" scenario. (Nothing to do with actual Tamagotchis, but it sets up a reason for somewhat-similar gameplay)

Basically, you live in a beach cabin next to the ocean. We don't exactly know where in the world, but we know that it is very warm.

The story begins with you finding an unconscious girl on the beach after a storm. She looks barely alive so, fearing the worst, you take her into your cabin. When she finally comes to, you learn that she has almost no memory, but remembers that something was after her. She also has nowhere to go, so you agree to take her in.

While not apparent initially, this girl, is a Devil Girl; Hell's Angel, and what was after her--was retribution.

Your character has a spanking kink to begin with, but you aren't really the type to spank a random girl you just saved--until you learn that you need to keep her devilish tendencies under control. So, this holy-shit-beautiful girl is basically yours to do with as you please.

I want the game to be fappable, but I also want the story to be something you'd want to play even if you weren't in the mood for that sort of thing, so I am pondering ways to make the spankings themselves fun and want to shroud the story in mystery.

Of course, the spanking should be intense, but I'll need to find someone to do art before I can really prototype too much of that.

I really think this is a losing battle. I doubt you'll find a way to turn spankings into a gameplay mechanic, without sacrificing either fappability, or quality of gameplay.

The only way I could see that working out - maybe - is if you're making a mobile game, and you spank the girl by tapping the screen. Because then it has some kind of tactility to them, which might appeal to some primal part of our brains the same way shit like fruit ninja does.

Spanking can be a reward, but it doesn't need to be if it is based on story events. That also means you can have more control over how it is shown, so you can crank reactions to the max.

It doesn't need to be rare either, especially if it is a central aspect of the game... Though I agree that overusing it is a mistake that cheapens it by leaps and bounds.

And lastly, yeah, we need randomization... We need randomization to be over the top when we use it so that seeing the same thing over again will pretty much be impossible--but we have to use randomization wisely. Generated content isn't that interesting on its own, it needs the context of something real to the player.
