My LCS by my job was having a sale on variants and booksets and cpuldnt find that many good ones except for the two in the picture in my opinion. thanks, yeah i'm an artist, illustration mostly, trying to make comics (duh), weird that it shows
i got the full No.5 vol.1 package, i just don't display the box, here are some photos i took when i got it: imgur.com/a/2JXk3 (the book is lying under tekkonkinkreet, it's just that the spine print is some fancy foil that reflects light so you can't see it)
and yep, 100 (i'm missing that one, it's older and more expensive) and 101 are Matsumoto artbooks. this one has all sorts of stuff, stand-alone illustrations, some stuff from the beginning pages of his comics (but in a larger format), and even some short weird comics/sequential art like in pic related.
also i like how you put Sparrow among those giants, he deserves it, the guy is a genius.

>>94784945
i was praying someone would do the same until i finally bought it. been eyeing it since it released but i was hoping the price would go down somehow. it went up tho, luckily not sky-high, i got it for about $60.
anyway i will probably scan it some day, when i have the time and will to do so.

Eh, one artist recognizes another I guess? Do you have a blog or portfolio you'd be willing to share, I'd love to see if and how all those guys influence you!

I didn't realize the boxed edition came with a neat poster too, looks like that's next on my list. Is the book itself paperback like the rest of the series or HC? The paper quality of those Taiyo artbooks looks gorgeous by the way.

Sparrow's fucking fantastic, I got to meet him in person last year and he's even lovely in person.

It's fucking amazing. And now that the new h/c is like 2 1/2 times as big as the first print s/c it really shows off the art...if there was any touchstone it'd be late-period Crumb, I reckon. But I mean I love his Suckle/Crumple (read that next!!!) overly cartoony style but I guess Ripple is a more "realistic" cartoony style. It's similar to the Dan & Larry In: Don't Do That! art. Very dark story of twisted sexual obsession an artist develops with a (quite probably underage) homely, dumpy chick (nothing against homely and dumpy chicks, just describing the story as best I can!) who basically just fucks with hi and sexually humiliates him. The first part as they're getting to know each other is kind of touching but it just ends so abysmally...it's pretty sexually freaky, too.
So yeah, it's great, this is the third time I've bought it, first when it was serialised in Weasel, then the s/c and now the hardcover. I like Suckle but it's the least-good of the Suckle/Crumple/Ripple loose "trilogy" imho. But as I said if you dug the art in Suckle get Crumple, at least. Cooper's a fucking master, kind of sad he doesn't do comics anymore but it's his muse...oh, and if you can get a cheap copy of The Complete Pip 7 Norton (written by Vice founder and general alt-right cunt Gavin McInnes, it's pretty funny though). French pal of mine has an amazing Cooper collection, I mean like 3 original pages and shit, just awesome stuff.
tl;dr--YES

>>
>>94796536
The new prints still pale in comparison to the Dark Horse versions. Kodansha censored it and printed on matte so the colored pages look washed out and grainy, GitS 2 looks horrible compared to the DH one, being mostly in full color and all.

But if you only care about the first one and maybe 1.5 and don't really care about the color quality when it appears, the new editions are okay. If you're upgrading for the Kodansha softcovers it's an improvement.

Jojonium in Japan has only gone up to part 3. It is unknown if part 4 will be covered. The editions by Viz (which are basically the same thing but hardcover instead of slip case) have announced they will be putting out part 4.

If you liked Dredd. Strontium Dog from John Wagner is criminally underrated and awesome, trades aren't hard to find.

Dreadstar by Jim Starlin is really good.

Grimjack by John Ostrander is a little out there but a good book.

Astro City is great.

X-O Manowar the old 90's valiant series and the 2017 run I'm loving.

Newer Eternal Warrior and Bloodshot runs were good from Valiant.

Kill or Be Killed by Ed Brubaker right now is really good.

That's about all I got off the top of my head.

Dark Horse is just fantastic. I saw they're digital editions: beautiful, full-size, PERFECT copies.

I'd love to buy digital more because I've been so unhappy with printing. But then you see the digital copies others are putting out and they still don't hold a flame to Dark Horse. They are small and artifacting everywhere. Why would I pay full price for the comic as a shitty compressed jpeg?

Bless Dark Horse.

>>
>>94798621
Thanks man. I got some I'm really fond of like the Hawkeye/Antman, Redemption of Hank Pym, Suicide Squad 1, or the Jim Aparo Spectre cover, and a few that I just like for whatever reason like the Avengers 357 where they went through that awful leather bomber jacket phase. Who doesn't want that? It's ridiculous.
>>
>>94798789
What is your opinion on Pymtron? I really wish Remender stayed with Marvel to tell ONE more story with Pym. Rage of Ultron was a great way to bring Pym back into a main story.

I didn't like how Duggan made him just Ultron and barely any Pym. But it surprised me, and maybe it shouldn't have cause he wrote the recent Lang Ant Man series, how Spencer wrote him so well in Secret Empire. That was the only issue I read (I skimmed a couple others) but he handled Pym well in that issue
>>
>>94785999
You'd be surprised how much it is.

A few bucks, tops. Quite a bit goes for less than current stuff.
>>
>>94799049

I'm gonna be honest. I haven't read it. I hate crossover stuff and big events now, they started hitting too many titles and it's not worth it for me. I've cut down on my Marvel list recently too, the writing is just bad on a lot of their books right now.

I did read the Spencer Ant-Man book and really liked it. I wanted more and was pissed it got cancelled.
>>
>>94799049
Same anon>>94799296

It's weird that Spencer was off Ant-Man which I thought he was really good on as a comedy based book and put on Cap which I gave a chance and thought was awful after 4ish issues. I gave up when it was a crossover before issue 6, fuck that noise.
>>
>>94799296
I get that, Marvel event fatigue has hit everyone hard, me too. I just picked up the Pymtron issue cause I wanted to see how Pym was doing. Spencer wrote Pym and Lang like he did in his Ant-Man series, he wrote them well.

I wouldn't say give money to marvel for it, but read the issue online. There are a few pages that should be /co/ memes and a few panels of golden Lang Pym stuff
>>
>>94799169
>A few bucks, tops. Quite a bit goes for less than current stuff.
lol I got a good deal on them but not a few bucks. X-Men 39 wasn't a lot because it's not in very good condition though.
>>
>>94798672
Good point, I need to get that. Maybe in between my current Cerebus purchases
>>
>>94799557
The event fatigue thing is weird. Sales are still high on those books but it seems like everyone I talk to isn't reading them. Maybe I've gotten too old and jaded and it's all younger readers idk.
>>

overshipping inflates SOME titles. but Marvel events have been making the regular title sell less and less. Every event makes stuff like Black Panther, Ultimates, A-Force, etc etc, sell less. It only pushes up the main titles.

Going to have to grab a second book case, because I have two more boxes of stuff (Mostly stuff like Batman/Superman collections, Spawn, some Deadpool, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, first volumes of random series I've tried out over the years, etc.).
>>
>>94799956
Dude this might make you change your mind on my taste but I like current Black Panther. It's literally the only main universe Marvel book I'm still reading. I don't care that it's slow as fuck.
>>
>>94800055
nah, I just haven't read it. Coates is probably a good writer but when stories keep getting interupted by events I just can't follow it anymore.

You may hate my taste too, but I loved A-Force. but it got tied up in CWII and completely stopped being about the bonding experience they had. It was even a good couple issues that tied into CWII, fixed some of Bendis mistakes. But it interupted the story they had going.
>>
>>94800016

Ha that's funny. I never read A-force.

on the current BP run I don't remember it getting interrupted. I'm not sure if they just let Coates work around it because he's a big name like they did with Whedon years ago or if I just don't recall it. Current BP is good if you like political based stories. it's kind of a combination of House of Cards combined with African Magicky stuff and normal superhero action. I like it but it's gotten a lot of flak on boards.
>>
>>94800307
Nice Dynamite books specifically. They had a bunch of solid stuff just a few years ago. WTF happened to Dynamite?
>>
>>94800434
worth picking up the trade? I do like Black Panther in the other things i read, like Ultimates, but just never gave the solo book a chance cause it seemed to be tied to events. Guess I was wrong.

should I just read it online or pick up the trade? I like political stuff
>>
>>94800532
>WTF happened to Dynamite?
I think the word got out not to work for them. They go after new artists straight out of school, the ones who don't know what a shitty contract looks like.
>>
>>94800552
I'd get the 1st trade to see if you like it. Like I said it's pretty slow paced so you might not.
>>
>>94800532
There seemed to be a creative shift at some point, in addition to the constantly shifting art staff. I figure it was about the time that Army of Darkness did a series reboot and never resolved the main story.
>>
>>94800598
They pulled big name writers then too though? Waid and Kevin Smith did their Green Hornet stuff for awhile. It's weird whatever the reason. They were my favorite indie publisher for ~2 years then BANG, they were shit.

I tried digital out but i went and bought a tablet too damn small because i thought it'd be more convienent.. I still use it but if you want a really good digital experience you need at least a 10-11 inch screen.

Me too, which is why i still buy floppies, it just seemed like a good way to read Storytimes here and other old comics from torrent packs that aren't collected or just something i wanna check out.
>>
>>94801563
>i still buy floppies
I wish I could give them up. very few books are better read in floppies. Most books are better as trades, the exeption I know is Tom King, he writes to issues (except maybe Batman, I haven't read that stuff of his). Vision, Omega Men and seemingly Mister Miracle have issues in mind rather than trade.

Fuck me for thinking King lost hist chops during Batman. That one issue of Mister Miracle sold me on everything he does again

I went to Prague on vacation and checked out the comic book stores and found something really special to me, ALL Mask omnibuses for only 300 crowns(12 Euros) each, the catch: it's all in Czech. Haven't posted here in a long time. Mini comics are older purchases and the Munoz and Shelton are newer -- I saw that they're coming to a local con, which led me buying them on advance and getting familiar with their work. Sarah Glidden and Leah Moore are also coming. Might get Glidden's work too (not sure if she will be selling herself or not, might have to buy on advance as well). I'm not really familiar with Leah's comic work.
Managed to eventually get Hanselmann's Portrait when he did a second printing.

Thanks! Yep, those first five stories are the first five issues of the old Fanta comics (which I'm soooo glad I own), Life An't A Comic Book, Babyis the one I mentioned featuring the authors themselves as characters, Viet Blues and The Fillmore Case are the best of those five imho. Great buy, Anon. What's Billie Holiday like? Gotta get that....decent binding on the Sinner Book, though? I think Munoz is a fucking consumate genius. Underneath what some with more conventional taste would maybe call "ugly" lies an extreme understanding of the human figure, I think it's the slashing, rough-looking nature of is inks (which I love, by the way!) puts more m/s fans off. Please check out the interview! I thought for years he studied directly under Hugo Pratt but he actually didn't.

Hah, Berliac, oh boy is right! I totally missed the controversy at the time, thought his stuff looked like shitty Wanga but I kind of enjoy his Vice comics, the shit is just SOOO fucking bizarre! D'ya think the D & Q project that got cancelled because of totally-over-the-top PC pandering will ever be printed in English? I mean, isn't Berliac trans him (her) self? I'm sure Hansellmann talked about it, they're mates apparently. Do you enjoy Berliac's stuff? He's certainly...original!
Man, all those great Argentine artists...Munoz of course, Solano Lopez, the great Oscar Zarate...thanks for taking the time to take the pic btw, anon, much appreciated GoodtasteBro!

That was a really bad Swamp Thing run. There was a Phantom Stranger mini in the late 80s with art by Mignola. It's collected in that "DC Universe by Mike Mignola" trade so you can check that out if you're looking for more Phantom Stranger.

too much Batman for my taste....I seriously only think he's had 3-5 good stories. But that's probably just me being a hater
>>
>>94816510
Aside from Knightfall and the early Morrison stuff, most of the non-limited series stuff sucks, yeah. Pretty damn happy with the Supes collection though. That set of trades leading into Our Worlds at Wars is genuinely great.

>>94816211
I like the Superman/Batman trades. Those are typically lots of fun, and Public Enemies is a personal preference of mine.

I'm kinda a superman pleb. Who's that written by?

Dude, stop with the "pleb" shit, I swear (this isn't a go at you, I now it's 4chan bullshit), your taste is your taste, do I enjoy the same stuff you do?No, I pretty much despise modern capes but fuck hating others for what makes them happy.
Oh, and if ya haven't got it you NEED the Tales of th dark Knight: Norm Breyfogle h/c that has much (tho' not all) of the epochal Wagner/Grant/Breyfogle 'Tec/Bats runs. Indispensable, really the first American comic I fell in love with and assiduously collected. Do your thing, anon.

FINALLY got new shelf up and sorted. 1/7.
I swear one day I will take out the floppies from all my longboxes and photo 'em for these threads, it's not an exaggeration to say I have a preddy damn good collection of pretentious hipster shit.

It's a bit of a mix. Jeph Loeb, Mark Schultz, Joe Kelly & a bit of Mark Millar I think.

Only volumes 1 and 2 of Scott Pilgrim? You gotta commit, son! It's only 6 volumes, you're a third of the way there.
Not really all that good of a series, but it's worth at least one read. Although I'd say try borrowing them from someone rather than buying them.

Man fuck off. If you like trashy stories that's fine everyone has guilty pleasures but don't hide behind the muhh opinion meme.

Two appearances by The Victor Book for Boys. Must be good.
>>
>>94816778
Will look into Breyfogle h/c, thanks. I am aware my collection is a bit trash with the overabundance of Batman and Bendis, hence the self-depreciation.

Hah, what's the "muh opinion" meme?! You're totally agreeing with what I said, all this "pleb" and "patrician" stuff is just straight crap.
>>94816968
Hahah as I noted these are before I put up my new shelf. It pretty much sucks, there's a good Harlem Heroes-type rip off comic in there but I mostly like these weird comics about a stereotypical Mexican character done in a really pleasing, "old-school" DC Thompson cartoony drawing style. Two appearances of Sir Alfred #3, though!
>>94816997
Yeah I mean I don't read modern capes by and large but that stuff is still really close to my heart. The majority of the run was just one or two issue stories, very few major Bat villians (just the Penguin and Clayface in the Mud Pack run, which may be a four-part story, probably longest in that run), they created The Ratcatcher, Anarky, Scarface, Cornelius Stirk and lots of "throw away" villains as vehicles for themes and stories etc. The book is I think 40 dollars but you can still get the floppies really cheaply on E-Bay, most for like a dollar or something. If you need ish numbers if you go that route ask me if you want.

Your collection is not trash to you, AnonBro.

Holy shit I have TWO volumes?! Damn, forgot! Not really into it, does it get better? Having said that, though, O'Malley is a great storyteller (I mean as in VISUAL storytelling, his pacing, page breakdowns or "panelling" as you guys like to call it!, are all pretty much on-point. ), though I'm not mad on his drawing style and his inking is a little hacky...man,I mistakenly went to Page 45 (amazing Brit comic shop) when O'Malley was signing there and fuck me I couldn't get in the damn shop for about 45, the line went all up Market Street! I'll take your advice, though, I think one of my comic mates has the coloured compendium. Thanks man!
>>94816909
Not triggered at all, the "pleb" and "patrician" memes need to die asap.
>>
>>94817244
>all this "pleb" and "patrician" stuff is just straight crap
eh, it's not like these things can be well ranked by quality, taste is taste. But a pleb would be someone who has only understood comics through the medium of capes only, a patrician should have SOME capes ( I would think) but those that really have something to say.

There isn't a clear ranking of the two, but you can't argue that some collections are owned by more well read anons than others.
>>
>>94817827
No, I can't argue against that at all and would always favour a catholic collection instead of all capes or whatever...I'm not perfect, I have more respect fro people with eclectic collections and who know the BROAD history of the medium, I guess this is close to "fake fan" territory but I try not to think like that. I kind of agree with your assertion that a "pleb" is someone who only understands the medium through capes and that kind of sucks but I choose not to diss anyone for it. It's the aggressive fucks on here who get madly triggered by alt/art/UG comics to the point that they have let the fucking world know how we're (alt fans) all pretentious hipsters who just want to look "cool", or something. If some of these types were given the right type of comic art" I think they might soften in their attitudes a bit. Maybe that new D.J Bryant book, or something. I feel like a lotta those types think that alt stuff is all drawn with a fucking cigarette end, or something....
>>
>>94818141
Most people here don't diss shelves. Though, I am the anon who dissed Batman, and I admit it's more me reacting to Batman being in every DC animated movie and event, it just tires me to no end.

From what I read in Shelf threads a lot of people praise those indi shelves. I honestly wish I could enjoy more of those D&Q books but...I just don't get it, maybe it DOES make me a pleb(ish). But at least I've read a bit of it and know it's not my taste.

I think you are confusing the rest of /co/ with /shelf/ cause here is much more open to taste than the rest of /co/ is
>>
>>94818376
I guess you're right about shelf threads and their openess to new stuff....whoever sorry to be pedantic but not all independent stuff is "alternative/"art"/literary or underground, but all alt stuff is independent. For example there are shitloads of independent cape/genreshit.
Just me being pedantic, mate, you make some good points dude

We can agree that for people here is more important take care and enjoy each collection, be filled with batman or be the first issue of someone. And yes, taste is subjective and the most objective coment here may be: clean you shelf, looks a little dirty.

Just have fun, buy, read, show, enjoy!
>>
>>94818592
I really like that pic, saved for later use.

Though I really hate all the comments about cleaning or messy places. my life is a mess, I know
>>
>>94818677
See, thats how subjetism works! Still, the latter statement stays.
