watching a few light saber fights. Someone explain the force in combat to me. Is it used in a way that the Jedi/Sith can look a few seconds into the future to predict reaction/counters? Basically trying to thinking hundreds of steps ahead in order to move the opponent into a position they can't dodge/block?

do these threads expand past just comics and cartoons for star wars? i'm playing kotor for the first time and while i enjoy the gameplay and strong dialogue, the history just makes no fucking sense. 5000 years before the movies and the setting is completely indistinguishable from the movies, which isnt how civilizations work at all. and even further, it's implied it was this was for 25k-30k years.
is there any material in any medium that actually makes sense of the shit worldbuilding?

Does Rebels get better with more seasons like clone wars did? i'm about to finish the second season and i'm not really enjoying it all too much.

No. It's more or less as Obi-Wan describes to Luke during his own training. The Force more or less kicks your reactions and reflexes up to and past 11 to the point where strikes, thrusts, and such can be parried and returned right back, almost regardless of how fast the opponent is. It's the kind of skill you'll want in a hyper fast kendo or fencing match. Instead of simply testing and breaking through the enemy's defenses as is much more traditional, the Force allows combatants to remain at engagement distance for as long as they can until one or the other makes a fatal misstep. That's kind of the reason why to most it looks like a flailing dance than any sword fight they might see in real life - historical or contemporary: because it's meant to be miles beyond that. The Obi-Wan and Maul duel in TPM is a pretty good example of this, whereas their duel in Rebels takes the concept a bit further, blending the high octane of the lightsaber duel with more traditional swordfighting.

Precognition is not an active ability but a passive one, achieved only in sedentary.

Noone ever claimed he was Mandalorian, even in the EU, until after Jango Fett was revealed and the Dark Horse comics gave him a backstory as an adopted Mandalorian in Jango Fett: Open Seasons in 2002, so that's 22 years after the fact that a connection was made by fans, and it took a further 7 years for George Lucas to make explicit in TCW his intention to dispel that notion.

It's the GoT situation. The genre movies, books, etc. have been appropriated by the mainstream, but there's a level of disconnect between the fiction and the audience. It still carries a stigma. When you tuck aliens in the background, as a setting flavor, people won't be so tempted to outright dismiss the movie as a dumb nerd shit.

We see the Empire on Yavin IV in the Aphra comic too, but I assumed they had got there too late. The Battlefront 2 trailer suggests there was actual combat there, but we all know the multiplayer stuff can take creative liberties with canonicity.

But all fingers seem to be pointing to the Empire actually fighting some Rebel straddlers there.

In Zahn's defense, Thrawn works the best when bounced against supporting characters. And Eli provides an important thematic comparison to Thrawn, as he showcases how discrimination in the Empire didn't stop at alien races.

We do talk about everything Star Wars here.

But we do heavily prefer it if you're at least respectful to the board media. If you show up shitting on Rebels, nobody is really going to want to talk to you, because for a lot of people, that's what we came here for initially. Generally if you watched and enjoyed TCW and rebels, you'll find it much easier to fit in here.

As long as you're respectful in your posts, you'll be good.

Also, regarding the rest of your post, basically what >>94681499 said. Lucasfilm pre-2014 wasn't quite as united in its focus for consistency in Star Wars, and Bioware was left to freely make their Videogames look however they wanted. So they just blended the OT and PT aesthetics together and called it a day. Modern Lucasfilm now has a Creative Story Group to make sure this doesn't happen in canon media.

Canonically, that era looks much more different. The aesthetics they have teased us with are all deeply rooted in history; Feudal Japanese armor, Medieval Knights, stuff like that. They even briefly went over hyperspace, and how it used to be much more dangerous, and that people only figured it out after following some space whales.

But as the other anon said, don't go in looking for the exceptional quality of TCW. That show was more of George Lucas's passion project to expand his Galaxy, rather than a mere animated show. Rebels tries to follow in TCW's footsteps, but there's only so much they can do now. Smaller budget, and a smaller focus in the storytelling too.

Not that i think its a bad thing, Rebels works and succeeds in the show it is trying to be.

We keep to our one thread, and we have been here for literally half a decade at least. (I first found the Star Wars threads in TCW Season 5, back when entire threads could be Ahsoka image dumps. More or less been here ever since)

Did we ever see any actual planetary shield generators in RO? For RPing reasons I think a bunch about the implications of stuff in the movie and for laziness and not going insane reasons I'm bad at following tie-in media, and Scarif is pretty interesting.

The thing I actively dislike is ships jumping in as close as they do. It totally changes the dynamics of attacking a known position. At least one of the two ISDs and the gate station would have to be at decently high readiness at any given time. Of course the Rebel ships spend a minute or so just loitering after they jump so meh.

Anyhow, you get your shield and your jammer and between them it's going to be a bitch to get in and a bitch to get whatever data you grabbed out. And you get your Striker TIEs and they may be pretty crap in space but they're damn good in atmo and hey, look, we put a lid on the atmo Rebebel scum. Enjoy your space optimized fighters.

Raddus seems to at least consider the option of knocking down the shield, so is it a "full" planetary shield or more about making sure you can't just sneak in?

Anyway, whether the shield is up or not is pretty important, and I was pretty annoyed at SGA's weak reasoning, and pretty happy it was settled later. The Rebels under the shield being doomed does seem pretty dodgy though, the wave of death will weaken and leave a hole in the coverage as it kills at least some of generators.

I'd honestly want the Executor-class to not primarily be warships, more defended, mobile command and control nodes. Size and shields of a heavy dreadnought, hull compromised by all the utility functions, armament of a light or maybe medium dreadnought and a very nice turn of speed.

So it's faster than your typical battleship and has the armament you'd expect of a 12km ship... still nothing you want to fight, but an equal size purebred warship would eat it for breakfast. Shame only the Empire has those, Rebel scum.

On a side note I prefer the 8km Executor for local RP. It's still amazing at what it does, but it leaves more room for heavy pure warships at the top of the firepower hierarchy.

As for the shield being generated by the gate station, do you have any evidence for that? Given that planetary shields would typically be generated by ground installations and that Raddus does not immediately direct the fleet to blow the shit out of it, it seems unlikely.
