I was supposed to post some Miles Morales Spidey issues tonight but I had to do that just one more night I'd wanna rip someone's head off. So instead, I'm gonna take a break and storytime the first volume of Ewing's Ultimates series because it came highly recommended from a friend. First time reading so if peeps could fill in a fewer of the finer details that'd be pretty schway.
>>94543812
Probably the hottest Carol has looked in years.
I kinda hate Wakanda. They're self righteous dick waving bastards that obviously have "no need" for the rest of the world so they should just bog off
Panther, kindly fuck off. You can't possible know that. You're just assuming. I've never known Galactus to be petty but to assume he's incapable is retarded.
>Panopticonic.
The state of being an institutional building?
I liked her better in Nextwave
>Spat out by a giant ectosplasmic space head.
I don't know about you but I feel the need to have a dictionary on hand to interpret half this shit.
>>94544109
Panopticonic is referring to the actual function of a panopticon. It's all-seeing. Hence the followup of "A one being surveillance state". But yeah, there's some big filler words here.
Carol's got a thing for Silver Fox's
>>94544232
I have a master's degree. I shouldn't feel this dumb when reading a comic.
Alright, I'm game.
>>94544503
That's the power of Ewing, dude.
>>94544577
As in he writes comics for intellectuals or he's needlessly pretentious?
>>94544610
Bit o' both. You've got to be able to wrap your head around Marvel's cosmology for this book. And yeah, it's a mess, so trying to make sense of it is a chore.
>>94543703
No worries, I think everyone is ok with taking a break from Miles
>Ultraflow
>Neutra Space?
This feels like Doctor Who gibberish and really off putting.
>>94544749
Those things are elaborated on as the run goes along.
>>94544242
well mar-vell did have silver hair.
So what happened exactly? He was in a ship bombarded by cosmic rays, it exploded but he didn't die, and then ship's remains became an egg for some reason and then Galactus hatched?>This is stupid.
>>94544853
Galactus is from the sixth incarnation of the universe. This run is set in the eighth (the current one). Galactus survived the death of the sixth universe and was reborn in the seventh universe. He needs to be reborn again.
Give it time, anon. There's a reason this run is pretty much universally praised.
>>94544853
galactus was transformed by the big bang was the original i believe.
>>94544972
You may be right but for a first time reader, I find it off putting. I feel like the series is masturbating itself in the face of the reader every chance it gets and instead of being upset there's spunk in their face, the readers ask for more.
>>94543812
Unf.
>>94545051
Well, with the quality of most other Marvel books, having jizz on your face is a lot better than being ass-raped.
>>94545065
Unf indeed. I'm not normally into short hair but Ultimates Carol is a hottie
>>94545081
>having jizz on your face is a lot better than being ass-raped.
Depends on what kind of day I'm having.
>>94544958
i found the ultimates to be colossally arrogant in the first parts. they just decide to change galactus, don't let any other planet have any input, and everything else be damned.
Well that's neat.
>>94545124
THANK YOU!!!! I thought I was just being needlessly dickish to the series (also I was uncertain since I'm drinking gin so it's hard for me to gauge when something is inherently bullshit). The Utliamate's entire attitude is that "they know best" and I feel the universe should kick them in the groin in retaliation.
>>94545124
>>94545170
>first parts
>the universe should kick them in the groin in retaliation
You're not far off.
>>94545202
HOORAY! I CAN SEE THE FUTURE!!! MORE GIN!!!!
>>94545170
i kind of got the idea that the problems with the universe might have stemmed from this. they get better once carol is kicked out of the limelight.
>>94545238
This
>>94545225
>>94545235
Rocafort Carol x Monica-as-Rocafort Carol OTP
>>94545313
I hope you enjoy America Chavez being tolerable because it's never going to happen again.
>>94545353
I remember her first appearing in Joe Casey's series Vengeance but it's been so long since I read it I remember jack. Also how does /co/ feel about Joe Casey? I sing the praises of his Adventures of Superman arc but I never see his Wildcats run or his creator owned titles discussed.
>>94545423
Didn't Cthuhlu fighting also come up in another book?
>>94545423
I fucking love the fact that they're incorporating the new Giant Man. This is an example of an unknown character taking up the mantle and completely shattering expectations (Or that might just be me).
>>94543703
>muh meme hate
>am I accepted yet guys?
Don't start shit in the first place if you can't cut it, faggot.
>>94545455
Fuck, I made a superflow esque concept in my comic. Is it a relatively common concept or is it plagiarism.
>>94545497
Speak in complete sentences. I can't understand you.
I wish I knew who this was. Otherwise this is just another page to me.Also I wish we had current Lobdell writing Superman when he had Racafort on art rather than his DBZ fan fiction when he was on the title.
>>94545592
Conner Simms. He becomes fairly integral to the plot.
>>94545529
DC has hypertime. It's nothing new.
>>94545629
HAZAH!!!! I'm glad to hear that.
>>94545529
Try learning to read first might help. We're on the INTERNET. But I guess you were too busy being a hipster to try.
>>94545710
I have no idea what you're trying to say or what point you're trying to make.
>>94545757
You're golden, man.
>>94545799
Fuck, and I deleted it for courtesy's sake.
>>94545826
Very considerate. You're awesome.
Stone cold, Kevin. Good on you.
I wish I knew who this was. I have next to no cosmic knowledge. I'm tempted to go back to the basics with infinity war and start from there.
>>94546012
I'm right there with ya. No idea what a lot of this is but at least it's pretty interesting.
Even though it hasn't been directly stated, I whole heartedly believe that Franklin and Molecule Man kickstarted another Ultimate Universe with all those that perished and its only a matter of time before it's formally brought back. Until then, I'm gonna kick back and enjoy Ultimate Peter and MJ having a happy ending and the universe going on as usual (or at least as usual for the Ultimate Universe).
>I also believe that Spider-Man and his AMazing Friends were brought back when the omniverse kickstarted again to make up for Slott's mistakes.
>>94546012
>>94546046
It's Eternity, the embodiment of the universe. A few other cosmic abstracts show up and they typically get little summaries.
>>94546064
I saw the literal summary at the beginning of this issue. The embodiment of the Omniverse. Pretty schway.
The fact that Rocafort spent this much detail on teh borders puts him in a league of his won. Absolutely breathtaking. I'm tempted to give Lobdell's Superman another look just for his art alone.
>I already plowed through his run on Red Hood and the Outlaws and it was surprisingly fun.
>>94546190FUCK YOU RIVERA REEEE
>>94546190
>>94546205
The fact America Chavez was with this fucking qt and then ends up with what is essentially a horse in a woman's body in her won book is just such a letdown.
God damn! Wasn't expecting this. I'm starting to see why my friends liked this series so much.
Mr. Marvel needs to sit her ass down.
This art if fucking incredible. Even I think that's an understatement.
I think I'm starting to see Galactus' point of view. Time is fluid and that applies to past, present, and future and that's not really a bad thing. It's an in omniverse explanation for how past events can be revamped, how present events can be skewed depending on the writer, and how the future can unfold into tales never seen before. Or maybe I'm just looking to much into it.
>>94546335
No, you're spot on. The book touches on a bit of meta-narrative.
Fuck. I can't even imagine what the Anti-Matter Man has had to put up with for literal decades. I can only guess it isn't nice.
>>94546361
Thanks man. I'm always worried that I'll not grasp a concept correctly or look too far into things so getting feedback is helpful.
Welp. I'm definitely revisting Thanos' prior stories in the Starlin era as well as Annhiliation to Thanos Imperative. Would you guys say its worth it or am I just gonna waste my time?
>>94546433
This is a good series to let your mind fill in blanks and do a bit of wandering. Hell, it's breaching new ground in a lot of ways, especially on the Galactus front.
>>94546395
>>94546416
This is really interesting.
>>94546455
Reading more Starlin is always a good idea.
>>94546538
This fucking page, man.
Best moment of the run coming up.
>>94546660
Rekt
>>94546511
Have you by chance happened to have read Cosmic Odyssey? Is it worth a look?
>>94546695
I actually haven't. I've read most of his Marvel stuff and his creator-owned stuff, but haven't read any of his DC work outside of Death in the Family.
>>94546695
what happened to the art?
>>94546776
I don't know why, but the art often changes at random points in random issues.
>>94546776
Looks like a temporary filler. Racofort comes back.
I currently arranging all of Hickman's Avengers epic into one cohesive story. Do I need to read anything other than Secret Wars to get the full gist or do I have to read other crossovers. I'm fine with not getting the intricacies as long as I get the whole thing (more/less).
>>94547298
I'm actually doing the same thing. I'm including Infinity and Time Runs Out, plus pretty much all of Hickman's Avengers books. Beyond that, I'd also like to know of any supplementary materials to the whole thing.
>>94547072
Little late for ths, but T'Challa is a cunt. His father should be disappointed in the man his son has grown to become.
Is Crystal supposed to look like a lesbian?
>>94547629
Man, I remember losing my fucking mind at this. Ewing pandering to all 5 of us New Universe fans is one of the best things about Ultimates for me.
Jesus Monica. If you could do that, then you could stop all future conflict from the time this issue came out. You didn't....so stop bitching. You're more human than you'd like to admit.
Well....fuck.
HAIL EWING
Sorry for the delay.
>>94547825
I have seen an insurmountable level of animosity towards Ewing. Some sing his praises while others put him on the same pedestal as Land calling him pretentious and derivative of Morrison but I feel like the truth is somewhere between the two. Care to post your thoughts on....
>Contest of Champions
>Ultimates Vol. 1
>Ultimates Vol. 2
>Loki: Agent of Asgard
>Mighty Avengers
>Captain America & The Mighty Avengers
>New Avengers
I would include US Avengers but I've been keeping track of that title and I gotta say, it brings a smile to my face.
>>94548125
That looks silly.
>>94548136
This Giant Man is easily one of the coolest characters of all time.
>>94548162
I whole heartedly agree....but I still think it's awe inspiring.
>>94548162
I really like the art.
The speech bubbles completely give away whom he's talking to but I still think it's a great reveal.
>>94548182
RIght behind yah.
Just when I thought Carol was looking sexah, we get this page.
>>94548041
>Contest of Champions
If I overlooked this title when it came out because it was a tie into a video game, but if actually full of continuity wanking, great ideas, and builds up to Ultimates in some ways.
>Ultimates
Volume 2 is literally just continuing the story. Easily my favorite current Marvel title. High concept ideas, lots of cosmic wanking, Bendis patching, and if the ending to the last issue doesn't make you get hyped nothing will.
>Loki: Agent of Asgard
My least favorite of his work, but I was pretty burned out on nuLoki at this point so I may need to read it again. It had great ideas.
>Mighty Avengers/Captain America & The Mighty Avengers
These two are one series split over two titles. Easily my favorite of his work from the hyped as fuck beginning with "SAY MY NAME" to the ending which left me sobbing. He made Secret Wars feel like we were actually losing something substantial. Just thinking about is getting me a little choked up.
>New Avengers/US Avengers
US is really just a continuation of New Avengers so I included it. It's not as good as Ultimates or Mighty, but it's good fun.
>>94548254
Hey it's Constintine!
Carol, you need a good old fashioned peppermint dickable
FUCKING GLORIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT THIS PAGE FRAMED!!!!
T'Challa is now in my top five marvel heroes. Astounding
God dammit, Connor. Can you just go 5 consecutive pages without fucking up to the nth degree.
The definition of an oh-shit moment.
Ugggg. Why the art change meow?
I'm all for making Thanos a badass but this seems a bit too much.
>>94548553
If this bothers you you won't make it through Volume 2
>>94548591
This is nothing compared to Starlin.
Damn....
THe art is amazing and the concept is batshit insane. Truly worth of the Ultimate title.
>>94548594
The art's fine (I actually like it), but when I'm really enjoying Rocafort and it's getting to a bad ass moment and it changes it's noticeable.
Carol, if you can't figure out why you're in the wrong on this one than your judgement is askew and you should be removed from the team till you get your shit together. Ulysses' vision didn't come true. Even one failture amonst all those successes calls into question everything that comes out of his mouth. WHy can't you see that?
This art is truly something else.
Seems like T'Challa isn't putting up with Carol's shit. He needs an award.
>>94548867
Is that Spider Man behind T'Challa?
I have absolutely no idea who any of these people are.
I didn't even know I wanted this until it was presented before me.
>>94548907
Looks like
I am officially game for Ultimates Vol. 2. I wasn't sure at first but Ewing does the title justice and while it isn't anywhere near the tone of Millar, Hickman, or Fialkov, he still manages to make a title with stories that would only fit in a series deemed "Ultimate".
Hope you all enjoyed. I'll see you tomorrow with the regularly scheduled programming. You just ventured past the veil of the unknown. You are officially an Ultimate /co/mrade!!!!!!!>>94548907
>>94549024
Thanks again for the storytime
Later OP
>>94548041
I think Contest is his most enjoyable work personally and wish it had more of a chance.
Loki is his best work and best character work.
Mighty Avengers is his best team book.
New Avengers and USA keep getting fucked with unfortunately. New is the better of the two though.
I really like Ultimates but I'm probably in the minority in that I enjoyed the human team more than the God team.
I think his stories are all some of the better comics I've ever read. Always enjoyable at the very least.
>>94547298
Shield & fantastic four
>>94548771
In her defense everyone else, especially Tony, was acting completely insane about the issue. They were so extremely against it she had to go harder than necessary to defend an honestly good idea and ignore its flaws.
>>94546695
Cosmic odyssy is pretty, but poorly written,
Ultimate bump
>>94549024
Thanks for the storytime, OP
>>94546776
it's Ward. He does the filler for #6/#12
>>94548591
>I guess I'll just take a look in his min-- AAAHHHHHHHHHHH
>>94548041
>Contest of Champions
Was alright, but was never going to sell
>Ultimates Vol. 1
I like the idea, but it's clear Ewing had other plans for the team
>Ultimates Vol. 2
Where we see that he's not even pretending to write a story about the Ultimates anymore and is instead writing about crazy cosmic shit
>Loki
I liked it, but the characterisation was doomed to be mangled by other writers
>Mighty Avengers + CA & Mighty Avengers
See Contest of Champions. Neat ideas, and the last issue is fantastic, but ultimately it wasn't a book that people would buy
>New Avengers
Ewing does campy fun. It's okay, but I feel that he went overboard with the Maker compared to past writers. Also, Roberto can only keikkaku so many times before the shtick gets old.
>>94548041
I love literally every one of those runs.
>>94548983
New Universe characters. There's all of like 10 people in the world that care about the New Universe and apparently, Ewing is one of them.I'm one of the others. NU was great.
>>94545462
The New Avengers (also Ewing) fought, and I'm quoting here, a Giant Space Cthulhu in the Space Castle. (Also it was a wizard. Comic-books.)
>>94549024
bump
BUMP!!!!
I'm really glad I did this thread. I just needed a breather from Miles. Don't get me wrong, as much as I complain I do enjoy his first series prior to Secret War, but it absolutely pales in comparison to the prior series that came before. I would post all of Ultimates Vol. 2 but it wouldn't come close to filling the thread so I'll start back up on Miles later.
>>94548136
>>94548147
>>94548160
Ewing's work has made Blue Marvel probably the greatest Marvel character created in the last 10 years.
>>94549024
Dude that last little bit actually made me smile thanks OP.
>>94545124
To be fair, the only time other planets consult Earth is when they're about to invade it or use it as a launching ground for some war.
And in most what ifs they cheer when the planet fucks itself.
Cosmic neighbors can go fuck themselves.
>>94546335
No you're right. This entire explanation is working Marvel's "universe is only 10 years old" line into the stories itself.
Erwing does that for a lot of Marvel lore in this book but you need to be a wiki whore or marvel historian to truly appreciate it.
>>94563298
So glad I'm not completely retarded.
Also the Miles' thread is available here for those that want to continue the Spider-Man epic. For those that don't wanna continue, I completely understand.>GOTCHA!!! Wanna know something cool? You're awesome!
The Ting with 1610 Reed's in ultimate's 2 is real cool.

That relationship was one of the few humanizing elements America had and Rivera fucking ruined it.
