To autistic shark guy,
I will see what I can do about making him more anatomy accurate.
I'm still struggling to write one funny thing a day, which I think may be more important.
>>
>>94285213
Looking really cool so far!
>>
>>94285255
If I remember correctly, there was one of those one-time deal things that people exploited, like getting one of those 1$ chinese mouse pads that required you to things in a real particular way to legally obtain it for free.
>>
>>94285348
Really it's just the gills moving forward, you could consider them 'cheeks' when you plan out his face. everything else is fine and actually better than fine given how cartoons usually draw sharks.
>>
>>94285213
Fake grays!
These are not true grays.
Screentones or bust!
>>
>>94285367
At least I remember it was just cracking some folders and that is. That's why some people had problems with SAI working like shit or something. The one deal with the price I have seen most is with CSP, costing 25$.
>>
what do you prioritize most in your style?
I've seen most people here work on making thir anatomy construction show, but what would you say it's your strong point?
>anatomy
>composition
>color
>rendering
>gesture
>design
>>
>>94285577
My anatomy is not the best but I make my best try to make it as accurate as possible, or at least for it to not look uncanny. I think I'm good enough at design.

I have been trying to make better gestures so my characters don't look like ":U" dolls nor anything like that, and seems people like the funny faces I do so I guess I'm good on it? Composition if only I wasn't so lazy to do background.

Not sure what rendering means here. Color I may be good at color theory but I'm shit at coloring itself.
>>
Would it be a bad move to write 99% of the story as the main character(s) retelling their story?
>>
>>94285839
It's been done in a lot of other forms of media. Plus you can switch from dialogue/character-driven to narrator-driven without it being jarring.
>>
>>94285889
It just concerned me that it'd come out as an easy cop-out or too cliche. Plus it kinda gives the main characters plot armor from anything bad that might happen to them.

>>
>>94285980
Nice. Now it looks like someone scanned some pro work.
>>
>>94285958
You can always have characters in the story who only show up in the story that the main characters are telling, there's still room to build tension and create drama even though it's only a story being told.
>>
>>94285980
It looks great. Is that a simulated effect or did you use a brush for it?

Honestly I like thlee grey version better, the screetones make the whole think look rather foggy. There's no real reason to use screentones unless you're planning to print it cheaply, or want to do all-out manga emulation.
>>
>>94285577
My strength is also my weakness, and it's inconsistentcy. Since I have no defined style and neither a fear to change I let myself experiment.
>>

Left. The large arc in the line of action just seems better for the reaction from the character.

Although the little impact lines on the right add a nice effect, so por que no los dos?

I see what you mean, I'll fix up the bodies. I'll also going to play around with some font packs I downloaded as well.

>>94287968
Gotcha, I'll lay off on using the airbrush too much and save it for minor highlights/shadows. That is a spirit in the last three panels trying to warn the protag of the police while protag is trying to score. Its sort of a stand-like being but its more autonomous and can act alone in some situations. There's several in the story and each works with a person that they like but in some situations they turn on their master. I'm still trying to nerf their abilities since too many people with them would turn into a boring power-level fest.

>>94287987
those last three are a little confusing since they lead into the next page where the police question protag about some crimes. I tried to work them entering the bar in the background but like >>94287968 mentioned my airbrush work made it look messy.

I try to imply there is a lot more going on than there seems to be at first glance. The quotation marks are there for a reason, not all of the dialogue is verbal and some characters don't speak conventionally.
>>
>>94293576
Well, when a person is reading a book or it might even be narration, it makes a little more sense, but.. I'm having trouble imagining what the reasons for quotes to be actually in a bubble would be. If it'll be revealed later, I'll be patient.
For now though, I feel like some of this could use tightening up. There's a lot of subtle little crummy bits that would work a lot better if they had better geometry. That's part of what makes even 'toon' drawings good.

Why would your vacation mean you had less time?
Anyway, work part-time or work remotely. It's the only acceptable life choice.
now let's get down to what the fuck that picture is from and means. she's a pokemon-a and likes to suck the beak?
>>
>>94294667
>Why would your vacation mean you had less time?

Because I still live with my parents and vacation time also means my dad gets vacations so we have to go around doing family quality time, also double house chores. Is mostly me not being able to schedule my free time and school being used mostly for my actual projects since had not much to do.

As for the pic I only chose it for the face but as for the meanings, yes, "pico" means "beak" yes but in southamerican countries it is slang for penis, which is why there the whole Boku no Pico franchise gets even more mockery than normal, all the guys' names are some spanish slang for the male sexual organs. It's almost as if it was done on purpose by the nips. I think the source is some sort of show of the "real people real problems" and shit like that.
>>
>>94294753
>family shit
Oh fuck that noise. you're a man now, you have education and shit. they can eat your ass with their double chores.
oh man, that makes those old flash games/toons hilarious. the ones with the kid named Pico. Also, that one fakey kid computer drawing toy
considering the intentional espanol in bleach, I wouldn't put it past anyone.. but uh.. yeah I got from context that it was a talk show. The question at this point is... Pokemona? Even if that is how you make it feminine, which you don't do, is it saying she IS one, or has a problem with it?
>>
Do animatics go here? I feel like it's kind of the same thing.
>>
>>94294793
>Oh fuck that noise. you're a man now, you have education and shit. they can eat your ass with their double chores..

I'm a spic and here the rule is either get a job or help a lot with the house. Is a huge motivator to actually get employed but so far not many interviews calling back.

As for the pokemona bit, well, talk shows don't really do research. The text there does imply that it's saying she IS one though, but that's as far as I know, the whole thing reads like a weird edit but that's how I found it. And knowing the quality of the talk shows around here it can be legit, and still gives a laugh.

I understand the confusion. I admit I dug myself into a little bit of a hole with how I initially wanted to execute some of the stranger concepts of the story, but I'm too far in to change it. It'll all make sense as the story goes on.
As for the art, I agree with you; it's is not as good as I want it to be. When I started I could hardly draw anything at all, but I didn't want to wait for ten years of practice to tell a story that had already been in my head for a long time. Again, I appreciate the reply, criticism is lifeblood.

I like the second one more. The sfx arrangement of the first one would be more suitable for a 'whoosh' or something describing the sound of the swing, rather than the impact.

>>94296124
Thinking of production, I'd do the opposite. For a long term comic you're probably trying to get people invested in a story and characters, so black and white will be better here since you'll get more pages done (I assume) meaning, more characters/plot progression.
If the comic is short, then colour can be a nice addition to something that won't take you too long to complete. There's a lot to consider but it's up to what you think you can do.

shoulder may be to high up or contracted, the pose feel stiff indeed, maybe put more dropped shoulders, and a longer neck, maybe.

I don't know how to explain, so here's how I'd do it. I may not be the best artist around, but I really tried, here.
>>
>>94302736
Consider adding more elements that say "robot." Right now it looks like an organic creature wearing a forget with shoulderguards, a helmet and shoes.

Sharp angles, especially for the legs from the knee down and the forearms, triangles and rectangles in the geometry, a sharper helmet, more layered segments for things like the lower body akin to the gorget, and the emulation of the look and feel of appliances can all help your character look more like an android without compromising the base design.

Legit question!
There was a Very Special Episode where Riven has her first period and Mizu goes to buy her some tampons, so it's safe to assume that's what she uses. there was a brief but amusing running gag where she didn't want her brother knowing about it. Then later during a timeskip, Riv invents the menstrual cup. because inventor and haha fantasy setting anachronism.
half-fairies I think don't menstruate, or at least don't have to, so Robin is fine. shapeshifting and all that.
Sasha and Hel give zero fucks, being more animal than human, but they also have a pretty light flow for the same reason.

Besides is not fun to have tons of blood (feat. horrible amounts of pain depending of them woman) coming out of you and having to worry about making a mess of your panties or, in your girls case, the whole damn place. I own dogs too and I will tell you even the females' light flow can be messy.

yeah I had an unspayed dog too, we had to put diapers on her. Really the fact that she shat in them was the major problem. That was.. just not a good place to have a dog, we couldn't give her enough outside time.

Coldfusion's characters don't wear panties because they're unhygienic, because apparently cotton doesn't exist, they either wear fundoshi (which is a men's garment but whatever) or nothing. Looks like coldfusion wins this round!!!

It's because of you.

You think you're helping, being positive even, but you're actually creepy. It doesn't look like positivity. It looks like a grown man who's thought extensively on girls sexual parts. The question was bait and you took it so readily because you want to talk about something you're obsessed with.

Guys who are pervs are easy to deal with, guys who are pervs but pretend to be socially progressive are insidious people that often use their status as an 'ally' to get close to women, but they're often unstable so they eventually turn on them.

I wait for the day that your name comes across a news ticker because you finally started rummaging in trashcans and broke into bedrooms to steal underwear to smell. Or even worst you actually harm someone.

Because that's what you sound like.

No. Just no. Anyway it all depends of the woman in question but inserting shit inside your sexual organ is just too squicky in general, even more so if it is to collect blood, since menstrual blood comes with tissue from your uterus, is not just blood.

Hell why your posts makes me think of the stupid idea Venezuela had about "returning to our grandma's times!" of using actual re-washable clothes instead of pads? Nightmare material right there.

I know what you mean though, my comfy comic idea also began having a worldbuilding of it's own and I'm worried about it ruining the fun chilling.
>>
>>94306270
I also forgot to mention I'm into Junji Ito and Shintaro Kago and basically everything that makes you uncomfortable. Making a cute comic is basically diametrically opposed to what I usually do. It's a fun experiment but since I know not a lot about cute and light-hearted stuff it's also new ground for me.
I haven't done much worldbuilding so far. I'm basically discovering the world together with my readers.
>>
>>94306059
>I recently saw some study that showed they check to see whether your eyes are open or shut before doing stuff, and will do it if you close your eyes

Doggos are really fun. I remember a commercial of dog food where they showed a dog on the coach but the moment he heard footsteps outside he went "oh shit right I'm not supposed to be here" then moved to his actual bed before the family came in. They are also aware of when they do something they are supposed not to so that's why in all those videos of them breaking the house they look guilty as hell even before people address them.
>>
>>94306384
Given pack mentality that kind of makes sense. It's just the rebellion aspect while still being fully concious of what they're doing that's surprising.

Secretly, anime and western cartoons almost entirely. I guess my main influences are children's anime like Ronya or Conan or the world masterpeice theatre ones and also cyberpunk anime like SEL or psycho-pass, I secretly haven't seen GITS or Akira yet though. I feel like a hack since I could never be considered a comics fan, the only comics I read for entertainment were a couple of Tintins lying around the house, I borrowed some from the library at school too.
>>

I did. I basically read everything he ever made. I followed a two scanlation groups and had always been up to date on all his manga.

So I wanna make some tshirt designs around the band from my comic, since few of my friends want some. What is a good resolution/template to get something like pic related?
>>
>>94306984
I'm thinking... it looks like about twice as wide and twice as long as a printed page, so maybe double the minimums for a comic page
>>
>>94306984
Resolution should be 300 dpi at minimum, 600 dpi if you want them big enough.

I would recomend to talk to your print center of choice in these regards, since their sizes for t-shirts can vary and what not.
>>
>>94307309
resolution's irrelevant if your size is too small though. 300dpi if you drew at actual size for the shirt, yeah. A shirt would be... maybe 20 inches across at most for a really big one, probably less
>>
>>94307388
Yes that's why I said to talk with the print center. The only shirts I have done were with a design that fitted on Letter size of paper, I'm not sure how sizes work with different designs.

thanks for the info. I did want to make something like this for a while, since some of my friends want to put some gloryhol related tshirts as an injoke during heavy metal shows and whatnot.

For this tshirt, i was asked to make something very "maiden". So trooper once again with something like powerslave. I'm struggling to make something good on that format, damn.
Help on ideas and composition?

>>94309393
I would put it across the top, but right now that would make the entire thing a little more vertical than you're probably going for. That titty pharaoh is not something I'd wanna cover up. Remind me what the logo usually looks like? I'd like to know what kind of space it takes up.

So it is..
Well, you could put the R and Y behind tittypharaoh's head just as they go behind giantlady's head and it wouldn't ruin anything, but then your design is still just a tad tall. However, it looks to me like you could move the background down slightly without too much of it being significantly covered, putting the titties only a little above the height of the short guy on the left (his shins are a bit disproportionately short, to my eye). I can do a mockup of what I'm thinking, if you aren't following.

posters tend to be a little longer than you'd expect a t-shirt graphic to be, but then t-shirts are worn longer now so you could go down further.
This is roughly how I would try to fit it, though A) that guy's legs still need to be a lot longer, and B) since the entire group is off-center anyway, maybe it's okay for tittypharaoh to be off to the right, thus fitting her in more neatly in the negative space left by the two crouching band members. If she was at a 3/4ths angle that wouldn't look like a mistake.

Nice job with the records. I didn't know what you were going to do, since fully-detailed album covers would be a massive pain in the ass, but I think you compromised nicely with those simple ones.
Also the text is now readable. Now that I can read it, I don't understand the objection from before. She IS trying to hurry him out. It feels believable.
The colored outlines would be fine if you maybe just toned down the saturation of the red, but I only say that because it stands out in the lower, gray panels. In the colored one, it balances out fine. Also the shadow thing is good, but probably not necessary.

how's my webcomic idea?

it's about a middle aged man doing comics for the past 10 years but to no avail. he's adamant on sticking to his format and keeps churning out the same thing with little improvement, but he's convinced that he'll make it someday. in the meantime he spends most of his time posting in a webcomic community because he really has no one else to talk to.

The story progresses as he ages and becomes more and more delusional and attached/entrenched in the past, unwilling to move on. The story takes place 10 years later than the audience thinks, the guy has become so crazy that the "threads" he's posting in aren't live threads, but archived ones of the past. He's been talking to himself and drawing the same comic for years.

Mostly Digimon and One Piece. Digimon for the basic premise and that for some reason it always makes me cry, (Adventure,) and One Piece more for Oda. That man has built this ever expanding world that has gone on for 20 years! I want to love Boys Land as much as he loves One Piece. I admire his ambition so much that it literally pushes me forward with my comic. So more of a meta inspo.

>TYPE-MOON
>What do you like about

Mostly I like how the worldbuilding plays in there. Nasu (the writer) has all this already set rules and lore on his whole multiverse which I find quite enjoyable as a triviafag.

I also like when the characters got some nice complexity on them and how they face their own ideals and values.

Shiro from Fate gets a lot of memes about how dumb he is (in the animes he actually is) but when you read him on the VN is an interesting examination on how the hero of justice mentality works, and how twisted it actually is.

Other protagonist from other Fate entry is pretty much the generic prota to the extreme, they have nothing special about them, they are average on everything. Yet they can make it to the end and still fight because they may not be special but that doesn't mean they won't fight for what they thing is right/for the people they care for. This is a theme that has been prevalent on later works and is one I quite like.

What came to mind at first was "play the VNs!", not because of eliticism, but adaptations of TM works really seem to be guilty of not really working as well as they do in their native medium. For example a friend started with the ufotable version of UBW and she was kind of confused and overall didn't like the experience. That is because they adapted the route as it was, but the route in the VN needs for you to play the Saber route first (nips published that route on smartphones before the UBW anime came out, that pretty much says it all).

Now I know not everyone has patience to read all that text by Nasu, so I will get to what I can recommend.

>Fate/Zero anime
Is a bit overrated, but I actually like it. If you can handle Urobuchi's love for drama, you can watch this fine. It is a prequel to Fate main series so you aren't missing anything. Animation and OST is cool.

>Kara no Kyoukai movies
Pretty much what set ufotable on the table actually. They have a good soundtrack and they adapt quite well one of the first works of TYPE-MOON. Even Nasu liked them better.

>Melty Blood and Fate/unlimited codes
Both are fighting games localized in English, I know Melty Blood -one of them- is on Steam, the Fate one needs a PS2 or PSP emulator iirc. They are fun.

>Carnival Phantasm
This needs a bit of knowledge of some memes from the franchises but I watched it back when I only knew the DEEN anime and still had a good laugh. Is also one of my inspirations when it comes to humor.

>Riyo comics
They are tutorials for Fate/GO mobage (other recommendation if you don't mind mobage shit) but evolved into something of their own.

>Fate/Apocrypha (A1)
I would recommend the light novels better but they are being translated really slowly and the anime is on this season already.
To be fair, the story kind of goes downhill after they switch the MC, but my husbando is in there on best team so it's worth a watch.

Damn, sorry for the long wall text of China.

Nah just kidding, I actually think you need a bit of sadism on you if you are going to add drama, death and all that kind of stuff in your story. I'm a damn sadistic writer and I don't like it much because most of the time it comes out when I want something to be just happy times. Is as if I needed a quota to fill.
>>
>>94314945
But then again, happiness makes for a bad plot device. It was only after being displaced that Ulysses's story began. Although I'm not sure I'm the biggest fan of catharsis as simply going back to the starting point of your journey when things were just fine. But maybe that is what people want from a story. I dunno.

Oh man you really make some good looking stuff, that space tree is damn cool.

>tfw I showed my challenge comics to some friends
>they actually liked them and told me to post them on my own pages
>since I decided to make them a sort of shared universe, I kind of want to make them a sort of experimental webcomic based on challenges and independent strips

Is it ok to do that? I don't know if that would be considered cheating or what.

>THEME: post apocalyptic - cartoon - animals

Damn, I would love to throw the fox and the cat into that setting but unfortunately I don't have any time for that. I might participate in future challenges, though.
>>
>>94315057
I don't think it's cheating to take prompts. There are comics that take audience suggestions constantly. This one was like "drawing things on index cards that people tell me to".. by the guy that used to make fun of marmaduke.. Man, that site went down at the same time White Ninja did. I miss that.

>>

You'll probably have to put in just as much (if not more) work making a VN.
You need to draw characters/poses/alt outfits, high quality CGs, backgrounds, write enough text to pad out 20+ hours, make multiple endings, code the whole thing...

fuck man just make a comic, practice your discipline.
>>
>>94315170
Fair point. I was a bit unsure about it because of how the comics are born pretty much.

>>94315351
I have a similar idea but it's more like I'm the writer for some friends' videogame project and I want to make a comic detailing the villains' POV of events before and during the game.

Feels good to get a comic out 3 days after another one, like I used to normally.
Helps that this and the last one were going to be one long strip at first, but that would have been nuts.
The second panel wasn't planned, I just couldn't decide who would say it

referenced a golf swing for Kaen's mace hit to the polycrotch. Not as dynamic as I was hoping it'd be. Really liking how the flame wings turned out though.
Yes, this is going somewhere. Soon.

These are the drawings for chapter two-ish of my comic.
The dialogue is already pre-written in a notebook. I just need to put the files into photoshop and write the dialogue.

I'd just like to ask is the panel flow is readable?

Can you tell who's talking to who and what's happening even without bubbles?

Any suggestions on the art?
Last time I posted people told me that the rabbits came off as creepy.

Did the redesigns help?

kek

>>94316631
I dunno. I like the designs. Make the color scheme sepia-ish and I'll be all over it. If you color it, that is.
>>
>>94316631
That's an adorable bun for sure
>>
>>94316631
Oh, I vaguely remember that. They aren't creepy now, but they do kind of have tall heads. Shaped a lot like the ninja turtles' heads, come to think of it. But not creepy! Not bad at all.
>>
>>94316742
Aw gee really.
Well I guess you're right.
I never really noticed it.
Should I make the heads more circular, or just try to place the eye's higher?
>>
Doodling around and thinking ahead for stuff that happens later in my story. Should I ever do panels like this or try to fit more into my pages for this kind of scene?
Context: He's monologuing about his vision for humanity in the future while also talking to his clone tank. This would be the way his clone project is unveiled.

Not sure if I want to use a split panel like this to do it though.
>>
>>94316913
i love the way you draw the lower face, i would like to see the upper part of the head more round, yes.The lower panels for example look kind of nicer than the ones just above them.
>>
>>94317282
You really think so.
I thought that they liked a bit too human at the bottom. I was worried it would make them uncanny.

>>94317470
That's an important thing to worry about. It seems you change their chibiness from panel to panel. Nothin wrong with that, I would just suggest not varying it too far in the 'realistic' direction. Not any further than you already did in the ones where they have defined arms helping putting on clothes. Just let that be your limit.
But basically since you've given them nice forward-facing eyes, you're all set. This could only be creepy if you gave them more realistic side-eyed rabbit faces.
>>
>>94314612

Thanks for the recs, the specific way you went about it will make it easier to navigate!

Curious though, how is the "hero if justice" mentality really twisted? Do you have an example? I've never heard of that take before. (Though I'm sure it's been done before.)

>>94313816

I feel ya, my story's gonna have some pretty dark shit down the road. Nothing like Gigeresque, but definitely darker than "cute stuff." I always aim to shock people with how fucked up something can possibly be, (usually with backstories,) to show the character/s get their happy ending anyway. But they gotta work for it!
>>
>>94317726
That's good advice.
I seem to have trouble keeping them consistent.
Due mostly to the large swaths of time between my... "updates"
I really should make like an official character sheet for all this thing.
>>
>>94317979
>I've never heard of that take before
It's been the new hotness for at least the last decade. Good is evil, morality is relative, let it go, blah blah blah. New-agey crap, best ignored.
>>
>>94317979
Hero of justice (seigi no mikata, also translated as ally of justice) is a thing very common in nip media it seems. Kamen Rider runs on that concept iirc, and many others do. Being an ally of justice is pretty much being a very heroic person, a selfish hero that goes around saving everyone no matter what.

The Fate series explores this quite a bit. Kirei (the MC on the prequel novel, Fate/Zero) wishes to be one but had to take a very dark turn on it (sacrifice the few to save the many) because reality sucks. Shiro, his adoptive son and MC of the Fate main series, takes his original dream and decides he will become a real hero of justice. Thing is, Shiro went full out. He doesn't say "no" to any favor people ask him to do, he risks his own life to save people and more often than not it ends endagering everyone involved instead, he doesn't understand about self-preservation because in his mind him doesn't matter as much as everybody else, he just plain can't be happy if he isn't helping people. It's even a point in the series how this mentality is fucked up and is explored in different ways through the 3 routes.
>>
>>94318099
yeah and then you can practice the intentional off-model versions so you aren't doing like me and just pretending it was intentional
>>
>>94318158
>Kirei

Welp I fucked up there and awfully at that! Kirei is an antagonist in both Fate series I said there, the Zero MC I meant was Kiritsugu. I don't know why I keep mixing their names like that. Kirei is another twisted exploration but that would just be more spoilerific and more wall of text.
>>
>>94318158
I also fucked up with the "selfish" bit, when I meant "selfless" instead. Fuck this is what happens when I haven't slept my good amount of hours.
>>
>>94317665
Sure man, its austinpettitart.tumblr.com
I post on my instagram a hell of a lot more if youre interested. Link should be on there somewhere

>>94318334
not that guy but thanks!
do you have a comic or just a lot of unrelated one-shots like I see here? because these are certainly nice, and nobody ever said a comic has to be ongoing
>>
>>94318420
I have two ongoing series that i update whenever i get inspiration, Small Stuff (little sketchy ones) and Lavender and Cedarwood. The project im working on now is more of a longterm goal. Im trying to get a single story made and play it bu ear after. Im having a ball with the process but its so time consuming

Thanks man, that means a lot, I pride myself on my characte designs, but I'm working on backgrounds and stuff too, The K.Kroell has been in development for 4 years, and lready has its own planet, races of people, mythology, and religion
I've been world building quite a bit so The K.Kroell feels real
>>
>>94318158

Oh yeah i know what that's about. That's like the MC of every shounen manga... ever.
>>
where do you post your comic?
do you have your own websites or just stick to a tumblr art blog? or just post here
>>
>>94320707
I assume you're talking about The K.Kroell guy
almost all my material is on my facebook if you ust look up my name on that first cover
I also have a fair amount of stuff on my devintart, on there I go by P-Lizardman
>>
>>94320668
Yeah exactly. The deal with Shiro is him being a... deconstruction of sorts of the classic shonen protagonist. Damn I don't really like using "deconstruction" as a way to describe anything nowadays because people throw it for pretty much anything.
>>
>>94320485
Well that looks quite amazing already anon. Best of lucks with it!
