Stupid question, but has anyone sunk some serious time into the GTA games in this thread? I'm debating if I should buy GTA4 because its now backwards compatible with the XBOX one. I like the look of 5 but I'm not a fan of the main characters. Also I watched a video that made GTA4 seem leaps and bounds better than five with regard to gunplay and physics.

I swear if I ever get a chance to make a comic I will design a villain after them. Their gimmick is that Mary Jane's mom or dad did them a wrong that they now use their newfound powers to attempt to right by BRUTALLY ATTEMPTING TO MURDER MARY JANE AT ALL COSTS. Over the course of the comic Mary Jane and Peter tearfully go through their issues and realized they need each other. Then epic battle (at some point Spiderman saves the two of them from death only for them to grab the Villian ball and get themselves killed.) With Spidey later, Mary Jane and Peter get married at a vegas church by an elvis guy with no other witnesses and he thinks Peter is "Just a guy in a Spiderman outfit." No idea he is Marrying Spidey and Mary Jane. The end. End of series.

I almost wish that had an extra issue or two in this arc. Part of the joys of the symbiote arc is watching how Peter initially adores the costume and then slowly starts realizing how his behavior is being radically shifted. Instead they went with having a one and done issue where he gets it and loses it and while I think it was well done, I would have been opposed to more. SOme people might be upset that Bendis would be purposely decompressing the story at that point but I think it'd be worth it. Sorry for the mini rant.

So definitely worth 20 darah? I'll also mention that I don't play on ever touching the multiplayer. I really just want a good open world singleplayer that I can sink some serious time into. Most recent open world game I played was Far Cry 4 and the Phantom Pain and whille I enjoyed those, they didn't come close to the amount of enjoyment I got from the GTA games (VC and SA especially).

I actually enjoyed Topher-Venom for what he was, but most people would lambast me for saying such a thing. I actual think the biggest reason people had an issue was tied to the writing of the character moreso than Topher's acting. Also I wish they went with the original ending for Eddie. In the original ending, Spider-Man realized during his fight with Venom that the suit had actually killed/eaten Brock and he was actually just fighting the symbiote at the very end that was using Brock's corpse to do its dirty work. The fact that he was completely disintegrated pisses me off.

It's so ironic because Bendis went on the record of not being excited/enthused to be doing an Ultimate Venom story and then he went and created something like this. I know Bendis is probably not in anyone's top 5 favorite comic writers but when he hits the mark he really hits the mark.

I know I said it before, but This is probably one of my favorite moments in the USM saga. Looking out a school window only to see a horrible monstrosity waiting for you outside, ready to pounce must be terrifying. Peter chooses to leave the classroom in the middle of the lecture and willing to risk detention/expulsion for his repeated disrespect of the rules so he doesn't have to worry about endngering any of his classmates in the upcoming confrontation. He would rather break the rules and have everyone think he's weird than even introduce the chance of Eddy bringing the fight indoors. Something about this speaks to me and I'm looking to create a moment as powerful as this one in my own work. Sorry for gushing, I just really really like this scene.

Reading him now, he's writing in the way that people speak, which sometimes works, but it doesn't always translate well into a book. Like, people talk over themselves, trail off, and speak in fragments. That sort of thing.

Fuck no. I do incorporate races and sexual orientations other than my own (straight white guy) but at no point is it ever going to be the thing that defines them. When I created my characaters not once did I ever think I should change a character for diversity sake. I thought how can I make the best character possible. So many people have characters be mouthpieces and I'm avoiding that alltogether. Every single individual in my comic is just as capble of being a hero as well as a villain. My main villain is actually a black guy but under no circumstances is it used for some agenda. It's just part of his character. I'd even go so far as to argue that race, sex, and orientation are the least important things about my characters. They just add to what was already there. Sorry for ranting, but I'm going out of my way to ensure no group gets pandered to. Current comics piss me to no end because they shovel that shit in the readers face and not even in a subtle way.

I whole heartedly agree. While I initally liked Miles as a character, his venom blast ability completely removes any tension from all of his encounters. It is literally used as an instant win button and he manages to more/less one shot villains that could keep the entire Avengers at bay. This is poor writing, no ifs, ans, or buts about it. The venom blast is probably the single worst thing to ever come from Bendis' head just because of how retardely broken it is and I've read his issues of Mighty Avengers and Avengers: Prime. For someone who supposedly wrote a book on comic writing (it's garbage by the way), he sure is an amateur for including shit like the venom blast in his work and legitimate being proud of it. Also his inability to stick to his decision irritate the piss outta me. For such a pro, he is a greenhorn in many of the areas that truly matter with regard to comic writing.

Ultimate Spider-Man is the book that truly got me into reading comics and there's a part of me that will always be grateful to Bendis for it. However, hisquality of worl has steadily gone downhill in the past 5 or so years. Anything that hasn't been Spider-Man related has just been very hit or miss. But I know what you mean. there are sometimes people who bring up this series being good and obvious newfags try to say it sucks because Bendis. I've had to many arguments with people on /co/ to believe all of those people read this whole series. A lot of it is just stupid memeing to look cool which is a shame. Frank Miller went off the deep end but no one is claiming his original stuff is shit because of that.

I like you. Bendis isn't the end all be all of writers, but to say that he has no works of worth is just not something I can agree with. I'll admit he's pumped out a fair amount of titles that had VERY BENDISY dialog and I won't defend those titles. His run on Avengers Vol. 4 had characters speaking so similarly that you could literally switch the heads in some cases and the audience would be none the wiser (especially his Fear Itself issues). I still enjoyed his work on Ultimate Spider-Man as well as Powers. His other works tend to be hit or miss with some titles being truly terrible while others are just inoffensive.

When I was in gradschool the only reason I got away with half the crap I did was because I taped all my lectures so I could re-listen in case I missed something important, put aside my social life completely, and drank an unfathomable amount of coffee to stay awake and alcohol to numb myself when the stress got too much. It may not have been the healtiest way to live but I pulled a 4.0 so I'm not complaining. To anyone who's thinking about grad-school, if you can do it I say go for it. It's an amazing experience, but be prepared to put your life on hold.

Something interesting about this arc: Venom is tied with Magneto for my favorite Marvel character ever and has been since I was a kid. I picked up Ultimate when I was maybe 15 and loved it. But I thought Ultimate Venom was the coolest and fantasized about having those powers and getting back at the assholes from high school. I think it slipped my mind that Eddie Jr. is actually a skeezy piece of shit and when I was applying to colleges I selected the one I did because they have a bioengineering major and the other ones in my state didn't. I feel like my opinion of Miles has been largely affected by years of passive aggressiveness and simmering hatred for aspects of the character. That said, we are definitely going to cover him when we get to the end of Peter's story.

I think it's because you're going to "In theory" be working side-by side with professors and students that genuinely care about their education. The people that get into gradschool are normally the cream of the crop from their respective school so you'll be working with others that will encourage you to do your best. If you can do the workload in gradschool you can do the workload anywhere and you normally gain skills and experiences you wouldn't get in any other environment. While my major emphasized research above all else and strict methodlolgy and statistical analysis (I hate multiple regression), I also gained valuable teaching experience that made me realize firsthand how much I enjoyed the academic environment. Because of time n gradschool I can now be given a class with just a base descritpion and not feel overwhelmed with coming up with stuff to fill it with. Also gradschool should open your eyes to just how much you DON'T know in your respective field and that should just fan the flames of your curiousity even more. It's not the greatest experience of all time, but I say gradschool made me entire the man I am today. Someone who is fiercly passionate about the subject matter that loves to share knowledge and encourage others to think about the material in intersting way.

I thought Norman's speech at the end of Dark Avengers was one of the strongest speeches he ever made. Sometimes it feels like Bendis has a character to give a speech just so he could tick off that little box on his clipboard but sometimes he legitimately strikes gold and brings layers of depth to a character you would have never expected from that fat man.

I remember being mad when I was younger that The Lizard never got his own arc because the basilisk lizard design looks cool but realistically you could peg him as a villain of the Carnage arc for the shit he pulls. Really though imagine a scene with Peter being knocked out into river during a fight and then seeing the fucking Lizard running over water to come kill him

I was initially so stoked to see The Lizard portrayed in a Spider-Man movie but they shit the bed with their incarnation. I know they didn't want to have him in his lab-coat but they could at the very least made him more animalistic (like the MTV Spider-Man show). It would have been better than what we got.

I said it in the previous thread, but if I had control of the Spider-Man movies I would include The Lizard and Kraven. I would initially have the Lizard be the villain for the first half of the movie with Kraven only mentioned in tv snippets and from other characters until he comes to NY to hunt the Lizard while Spider-Man is trying his hardest to cure the Lizard while having to seemingly fight them both off. Eventually Kraven realizes that he had been pursuing the weaker of the two prey and then devotes himself to capturing/killing Spider-Man. HOwever, Kraven is a man of honor and doesn't just want to put a bullet in him and call it a day, he wants to HUNT him like a wild animal. KRaven then takes Spidey to one of the islands/peninsulas he trained on and outfits the area with booby traps and other hazards. It will be up to Spider-Man to face off against KRaven while he is hunted by someone in their element. I'm not sure if I'd revisit the lzard later or just have him be taken care of in the beginning.

FUCK YEAH! That's most of the battle right there. Mine were terrible so I had to emphasize my GPA, letters of rec, research experiences, and other interests. Also, it may be tempting but don't include too much personal info in your personal statement. As someone that has read personal statements and actually got a couple of my students into programs (I wrote ballin letters of recommendation), too many students overshare and end up alienating the person reading it with may too much stuff. I'm going to go the funny route and trying to make mine as creative but that's only because I'm not stressing it. Listen to your professors because most of the time they will point you in the right direction. Sometimes though they are horriby out of touch and so far stuck up their own ass they have no concept of reality beyond their little hug box of student adulation and tenure.

Basically, Peter would help maneuver Kraven into a pit/cave/field and the Lizard would be waiting for him. The plan wouldn't be complex as Peter is basically just pulling Kraven to a location of his choosing aiming the Lizard in a direction that doesn't kill him. but it would be sooooooooo cool to see Kraven ripped apart by a prey he so desperatly wanted to capture. You could even have it so afterward Peter goes to thank Curt but by that point he's full blown animal again and Pete has to fight for his life and escape the island. Again, this is straight up fan-fiction tier but it would be better than the movies Webb shit out.

Are you listing two Webb movies back to back or was one of those supposed to be homecoming?
Also I have a love hate relationship with the ASM movies. I feel like for every thing it gets right it takes an equal and opposite number of steps back. It's completely unlike the Raimi movies and I actually appreciate that the writers didn't try to just make Raimi 2.0. I also loved that they went for villains that had never been seen before (Lizard and ELectro) but the entire plotline involving Peter's parents and his altered genetics was wasted potential and could have been something so much more. I still watch them from time to time. And while I hate ANdrew Garfield as a person, I did enjoy him as Spidre-Man. My biggest problem with those movies is primarily directed at ASM2.
Everything involving Harry at the end should have been reserved for its own movie. Shoehorning it in at the end of the movie felt akward to me and the second I saw Gwen and the Goblin I knew exactly what they were going to do
