The villain MCU thread took off way more than I thought it would and the thread got to an interesting point wherein /co/mrades were discussing favorite iterations of a character or wishful thinking for future movies.
One of teh topics was how would a writer/director tackle Venom and many agree that the way the did it in Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man series would be a good start. So without further ado, let's get started.
>>93926519
I too would like to see Ultimate Venom adapted to the MCU Spider-Man movie.
One problem with the ASM movies was that they made Peter's dad a scientist and created Peter's spider powers which is lame.
Making the Parkers and Brocks create the symbiote adds something special to Peter Parker's personal life (but still allows Peter's spider bite to be accident and that anyone could be Spidey etc)
>>93926713
>One problem with the ASM movies was that they made Peter's dad a scientist and created Peter's spider powers which is lame.
That actually bothered me more than I thought when watching the movie. I'm genuinely curious as to how they're going to use Tom Hardy as Venom considering he's WAY OLDER than Peter in this universe.
>>93926519
ultimate Venom would be cool. him eating people like that war of the symbiotes arc and video game would be terrifying on the big screen
>>93926818
Venom will probably be "connected" to the MCU. As in Sony will make acknowledgements to it but the MCU will ignore them (especially since Venom will be rated R)
Venom/Eddie Brock himself will have little connection to Peter Parker. As will the BlackCat/SilverSable movie and possible Mysterio and Kraven movies

This page screams Bendis wrote this. It's not terrible, but needlessly wordy.
Awesome.

Bagley's Ultimate work is pretty good
>>93926585
Bagley is one of the few artists who can really bring out the humor of Bendis's writing
Hell of a way to find out you're bulletproof.
>>93927410
Fuck yeah it is. Immonen was a great follow up artist though.
>>93927723
Ha!
bumpin
Oh shit. This escalated quickly.
I really like this page.
Ouch.
God damn...
>>93927027
I really do too.
>>93926849
>>93927880
Thanks for the bumps. I was kinda worried that peeps would ignore this thread becasue of Bendis but I'm glad to see that isn't teh case.
>>93928028
Look I hate Bendis now and his flaws were still present but Ultimate Spider-man was a good title and Ultimate Venom has some of his best writing on the book. I really feel sorry for the people who like Miles because Bendis never gave him a story like this.
>>93928028
>worried that peeps would ignore this thread because of Bendis
This was early-pretty-ok Bendis, when he had his own sandbox to play in before he started fucking the main continuity.
>>93927834
>>93927849
>>93927867
Poor Herman.

I'm glad /co/mrades aren't completely dismissive of Bendis as I feel many of the current 4chan users are. Bendis during his early tenure at Marvel as well as some of his creator owned comics are some of teh best he's ever put out. His series Powers is one of the best representations of Bendis' writing and Ultimate Spider-Man is easily my favorite Spider-Man series I've read in a while.
>>93928248
He always gets the short end of the stick. I'm glad he wasn't 100% wasted in Parker's Thunderbolts and enjoyed his portrayal in Spencer's Superior Foes of Spider-Man.
>>93928308
Don't say that! But you're probably right. Last I remember he's currently in Latveria but here's hoping he comes back. If anything, I consider his appearance in the game Ultimate Spider-Man to be the definitive ending on Brock's influence in the Ultimate Universe and the fact that it was penned by Bendis only adds weight to that. I know it technically isn't canon but my headcanon says so..
>>93928308
I'm still mad. Bendis overused Osborn but barely used Eddie. Didn't even give proper closure between him and Peter.
Welp, I guess that cat is out of teh bag meow
Ugggg. One of Bendis' trademarks is to have a single character give a speech that requires the entire goddamn page to convey. Sometimes they work, but in other times they slow the pacing of the story to a crawl.
>>93926747
>Dialogue mixed up in the first panel
>>93928463
Isn't that the same place he throws Carnage into?
Oh shit.
>>93928489
Good catch. It totally looks like the same location Carnage ate it.
>>93928351
the guy's written more bad than good, but there have been things by him I've liked.. Even then, I won't ever buy anything with his name on it
>>93928792
Not even...
>Ultimate Spider-Man (Peter Saga)
>Powers
>Dark Avengers
>New Avengers Vol. 1
>Daredevil
>Alias
>Jinx, Goldfish, or Torso? If not I still understand, but I consider Bendis one of my favorite writers (assuming he isn't fucking up the title and butchering the characters which is few and far between). There's a lot of potential with him but I feel he lets his success go to his head and he quits tryiing. I feeel its pretty obvious when Bendis is trying vs. when he isn't.
Being Peter Parker is suffering.
Totally getting a "The Thing" vibe from this page.
The fact that "the suit" continuiously eats at its host and requires them to "eat" others to keep themselves alive is a horrifying thought that I feel pairs wonderfully with teh Ultimate Universe. I originally thought it was a stupid mechanic but after playing the game Ultiamte Spider-Man on PS2 it added a layer of depth that forced you to continuiously alternate between offensive onslaughts and retreating to eat others to pull you back into the fray.
I can't even imagine what would be going through Peter's head at this moment. He knows firsthand that if he doesn't leave the classroom he's risking the deaths of all those around him, but doing so is only going to make him look like the weird kid and get in trouble at school. The atmosphere is thick with dread and uncertaintly and I love it. Something about villains taking the fight to the hero's work or home fascinates me.
>>93929085
My favorite page.
>>93929058
Reading all this is making me want to play through that game again.
>>93929114
>>93929132
I love the fight in the rain
Starting the Ultimate Spider-Man game with this scene was fucking god tier.
>>93929141
I say do it. It is a tad shorter than Spider-Man 2 but I feel was a much more cohesive experience and giving you two characters to play as was god tier. Venom's locomotion jump actually gave me motion sickness the first time I started playing around with it in the same feeling that plummeting off a rooftop in Spider-Man 2 gives. So all in all, DO IT!!!! IT HOLDS UP!!!!
>>93929182
You said it.
>>93929210
Unfortunately, playing as Venom isn't as fun anymore, if only because Alex Mercer in Prototype can do everything he can do and more. Venom ends up feeling like a watered-down version.
>>93929251
Part of me really wants to install Protoype but I'm worried its going to kick my computer's ass. The graphics card is a POS and the drivers fail daily. ALso rocking a 2.8 ghz processor so playing games on 60fps is an ordeal.
Also I still find Venom fun as fuck to play as but I understand that once you get used to Alex Mercer's offensive powers and locomtion abilities it's kinda hard to go back to a characcter with so many more limitations. Just being able to change your appearance to match an enemy and then infiltrating their base before decimating the entire establishment never gets old.
Is it ever explained why they named their cancer cure "The Venom Project"? Seems like a weird choice.
>>93929446

Anon doing the storytime: will you do the Carnage and the War of The Symbiotes stories too?
Love this page. I know Bendis is a total whore for splash pages but this one I feel was "earned" if that makes sense.
>>93929798
God, this ending was a gut punch. Bendis needs to go back to writing like this. I think many current readers would be floored by what that fan man can produce when he's thoroughly motivated. Ironically, Bendis intially wasn't stoked about doing a Venom story and it ended up becoming one of USM's best arcs without a doubt.
>>93929816
Only cause you're sexy and asked nicely.
And now we start the final issue of this story arc. I hope everyone enjoyed this visit to the prior Ultimate Universe before it completely shit the bed.

Lol I can't stop looking at it.
>>93930015
I'm still kinda upset about him getting replaced.
>>93930036
I was actually willing to give Miles a chance but Bendis kept trying to get everyone and their mother to say Peter would be honored to have you pick up the mantle without actually developing his character one bit. In fact, I might even storytime Bendis' original set of issues involving Miles before the incursions happened.
>>93926715
>"Dude, frogs."
This sounds like a meme somehow.
>>93930141
I can't say Miles is a bad character, the only Ultimate comics I had access to were the ones you've already posted, but I just can't get behind killing a character off to replace them with pretty much the same guy.
>>93930015
I always liked the Peter/Fury moments
>>93930232
I think Bendis realized this and decided to have him ressurrected and going off into the sunset with Mary Jane. As stupid as it sounds, wouldn't be surprised if Ultimate Peter and MJ survived Secret Wars and is living on 616 without a care in the world.
Excellent end. Give me 10 minutes and I'll track down my copies of the Carnage arc and War of the Symbiotes.

Sorry for teh delay. Starting the Carnage story arc meow.
I forgot that Bendis wrote the story to the ps2 game.
>>93930504
I consider teh Ultimate Spider-Man game to be a better story than War of the Symbiotes but what can you do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVI15j8qltA
Here's the cutscenes with some gameplay if people want to watch. I think the games holds up and I return to it more than Spider-man 2.
I don't know why I haven't noticed it, but Richard Parker looks like 616 Peter. Neat.
>>93928015
Well that's coincidence if I ever saw it.
Thank you Op
I hope you keep it up
>>93930832
>>93930832
>I think the games holds up and I return to it more than Spider-man 2
True words. I love 2 and the charge jump but something about the style and story of Ultimate Spider-Man keep me coming back to that game.

If I had a top five list of the Spidey Games, it would be...
1. Ultimate Spider-Man
2. Spider-Man 2 (Console Version)
3. Spider-Man (PSX)
4. Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six (GBC)
5. Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro.
>This last game was punishing as all hell but I still had a lot of fun with it and being able to customize your favorite Spidey suit with certain abilities was god tier.
I never played the Amazing Spider-Man games and the fact that they got pulled from steam irritates the piss outta me.
>>93928364
Peter, just take five minutes and tell him, for God's sake.
>>93931053
Yeah, I always hate stuff like this. It's not like something terrible is going to happen at any minute, he shouldn't be in such a hurry.
>>93930832
Man is Venom really so far above Wolverine that it justifies making him a tutorial boss?
>>93928547
Dammit, Eddie.
Oh man, an ultimate Spider-man thread. Truly a glorious day.
The first 8 volumes of this series were actually incredible. I mean, I love it all, but issues 1-50 were all fantastic (maybe it was just Thibert being awesome)
props to you, OP
the first Bendis' mistake with Ultimate Spider-Man coming soon
>>93929020
>tentacles
>toes curling
U-unf.
>>93931196
>>93931196
I feel like Ultimate Wolverine fluctuates significantly in this universe so its hard to tell. Venom.
Stupid Question, but is The Amazing Spider-Man 2 worth my time and energy to track down or should I just wait until a superior game comes around in the future?
>I've seen the gameplay for the PS4 Spidey game and I'm not really impressed. It doesn't look like it really offers anything the prior games haven't done before.
>One of my friends did gift me Shattered Dimensions on Steam so I would love to hear anyones thoughts on that.
>>93931666
SD is alright, similar to the PS1 Spider-Man game, but in HD.
Fucking hell
>>93931761
Peter's life is suffering.
>>93931761
>I'm being cautious here
Yeah, okay, Dr. Frankenstein.
>>93929853
And this is where I would put a sad reaction image if this wasn't a story time.
Just spider my man up.
For some odd reason this reminds me of Carnage in the Animated TV series as he was enlisted by Mordo to drain the life from innocents to feed his master Dormammu.
>>93931919
Those two did not deserve that.
>>93931919
yeah, man you want to know something I wish Bendis did more with Morbius, or at least had him with the suckers on his hand, saying plasma.
>>93930034
>the booty shaking
Samuel Jackson is my favorite Spider-Man character.
The monster of this story. Gotta say, it looks like the stuff of nightmares
>>93931915
In eleven pages I say go for it. It was a genuinely touching moment that capped off a Spidey story that will continue to remain one of my favorite list for years to come.
>A Death in the Family is another one I thoroughly enjoyed.
>The Amazing Spider-Man Rhino two parter.
>Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #1-12.
>JMS' run on Amazing Spider-Man.
>Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows by Conway.
I know I listed more recent stories but I'm trying to go back and find some long runs on the title.
>>93931981
>or at least had him with the suckers on his hand, saying plasma
This creeped me out way more than I thought it would as a kid.
>>93931996
I wish we had Nick Fury as the mentor instead of Stark in Homecoming.
>>93932021
No lie I customized my Marvel legends Figure of Morbius to have those on his hands just because.
=O
>>93930555
Didn't this actually happen in one of the comics?
No no no no no no no no
Oh god no.
I'm going to end this thread with this issue and immediately create another that finishes the story and continue on with War of the Symbiotes.
>>93932182
Yep. In the story "Shed" Connors eats Billy and it's every bit as awful as you can imagine it to be.
Also new thread is located here. Picking up with Issue 63 and then picking up "War of the Symbiotes" after that. And then once that's out of the way I'll take a break tonight and if this thread survives till morning tomorrow I'll storytime some more Ultimate Spider-Man/Symbiote Stories.
>>93930808
curt why
>>93932258
Yeah Shed, people said at the time it was great because now the Lizard could be used more as a villain but without the Connors moral dynamic the reason his stories are tense is gone and he might as well be Stegron the Dinosaur man.
>>93929444
They missed a spider symbol on the bottom left. Wish they didn't remove it From Ultimate Venom's final design.
>>93932485
You make a really good point. Completely eliminating Connor from teh equation is a bad move.
>>93932155
>>93932167
>>93932183
>>93932191
Such a gruesome death.
I like how >>93932155 reminds me of when 616 Mary Jane first met Venom. With her seeing Venom's eyes and mistakes him for Peter.
>>93932124
My favorite spread of the Carnage arc.
>>93930232
>>93930283
I have only read ultimate spider-man up until around here but I'm currently reading the recent miles issues and It isn't bad. Nothing special. Enjoying it more than ASM right now.
>>93933866
You should watch the cutscenes for the Ultimate Spider-Man game. It explains why Eddie doesn't have the spider symbol when Peter did.
>>93934510
I actually don't remember it being directly spelled out for me. Venom didn't get the symbol until he bonded with the remnants of Spidey's collection of symbiote particles present in his blood stream. So did it involve absorbing traces of Peter's memories as well as his power?
>>93934634
That, I don't know. I was mainly referring to the absorption of the symbiote particles. However, him getting Peter's memories as a result is a very likely explanation.
>>93929102
Gotta say, I love how in Ultimate Venom makes his Spider-Sense go crazy instead of just making it useless. Really drives home how fucking serious this shit is.
>>93932029
Same. Just by Nick Fury being his mentor, I feel like we could've gotten a Peter Parker closer to the comics (or really just closer to Russo Spidey which I thought was perfect) just because the way he interacts with Spidey is so different.
>>93926633
>Ultimate Richard Parker looks like 616 Peter Parker
That's a nice touch.
