It's got a lot of heart, and that helps an immense amount. Reminds me of Thor/Ant-Man -- plot is a little basic, but it's got some great moments of larger-than-life-wonder and funny characters to keep the plot afloat.

THeymiscra is really dull, but once Chris Pine shows up he brings a lot of life to the film and it's never less than solid from then on, with a few notable 10/10 scenes. Definitely a 7/10.
>>
>>93605831
By itself, 5-6/10
In comparison to the rest of the DCEU, 7.5-8/10

I thought it was long winded and boring, but every action sequence was great. Little preachy at time. They checked off ptsd, diversity points, and women's sufferage in a joke. Hell even had native americans. I liked nu-kirk and Gadot's parts a lot. Honestly, it's a romance story hidden as capshit. The target audience is definitely girls, and good for it. They deserve a hero. The villains were good.

It won't change your life, but you can do a lot worse in 2 hours.

Still havent seen it, but then I havent watch a movie since last year.

Is DCEU Wondy anything like DCAU Wondy? I dont mind Gadot much, but she comes off as way to mousey and shrimpy to play Diana, and that's one of the biggest reasons I havent made it a priority.

That, and Im not much of a movie guy these days anyway,

It's not a surprise the movie is successful. After all the Gurl Powah propaganda shit that's been made there is a healthy base of Emasculated Beta Loser Males who truthfully buy into the bullshit. I mean after all Star Wars Estrogen Awakens is MOAR successful than Unrealistically Competent Woman.

In the modern day there are too many beta faggot loser male simps. Try and make Wonder Woman back during the early days of cinema? Shit would have flopped. To make any film successful you need it to adhere to the culture and the current culture for decades has been Emasculate Western Males. So this is the fruit after all the labor that has gone into mentally castrating men and boys.

For Wonder Woman to be successful along with garbage like Star Wars Force Awakens you need to do the following in society/civilization:

- Feminize Acamedia.
- Media is Gynocentric filth along with politically correct
- Politics is all about getting the Female Vote and as such politics is all about pleasing women.

That's all it took to make Wonder Woman and other similar films a success. It's entirely artificial fluff. I truly wonder what will happen to Wonder Woman as a property once Western Civilization collapses? Interesting times. I mean could you imagine a beta cuck being told to eat shit and die if he goes to a network or studio pitching an idea for a show or movie about presenting women as everything they have never been? After Gynocentrism is exposed and brings about the ruination of Western Civilization, I can see such a scenario. Beta loser male simps being essentially blocked from ever having a say.

Batman & Superman together (with a little bit of Wonder Woman) couldn't beat GOTG domestic box office, and GOTG 2 made more money both domestically and internationally. Even Suicide Squad almost matched BvS domestic run. I will never stop being amazed at how they completely fucked up that one.
>>
>>93605579

Deadpool and WW actually have a lot in common in that they are famous characters with comic book reading people but had to prove they could succeed against the more family friendly MCU movies, and the multi-decade advantage in movies Bats and Supes had over WW.

So I loved both movies. The real enemy should be playing safe.

One negative thing I can see coming out of Wonder Woman I can think of is that Marvel is probably going to start to push Carol Danvers harder.

They already said wonder woman sucess was the absolute proof that Captain Marvel movie can work.
>>
>>93607785

If WW failed, they would have even more reasons to push a Carol Danvers film. They would just change the discourse to claim they were doing things "right". But as WW is winning, they are playing the "we know it could work" card.
>>
>>93607831

This made me wonder: do they even have any evidence or source to support or justify their efforts into pushing captain marvel? I mean, does normies have started to like her, or show any interest, or something?

What's necessary for them to accept "sorry, this isn't going to work"? Or am I missing something and suddenly captain marvel is the new hotness in town?

You ever heard about the ghost cities in China that has hundreds if not thousands of buildings completely empty? I feel like Marvel is doing the character equivalent of that. Just make shit for a demographic that either doesn't exist or is incredibly small compared to what they want. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone excited about her.

Marvel cannot get people to buy her comics no matter how many books they shove her in. - I don't see why anyone is going to go see her movie. Even Feige doesn't have much faith, he hired a male/female directing duo so they can blame the man if it's bad, and had to bring Sam Jackson back so people might go watch it.

>>
>>93608480
There is no Wonder Woman equivalent in Marvel, even if they had the rights to every character. They should have just made a Black Widow movie while people were clamoring for it instead of trying to force some D-lister no one cares about into being their 'Wonder Woman' when it's never going to happen.

They had native americans in World War 1.

There weren't a ton of them in comparison to others, but there was still like 100k enlisted. They didn't just randomly insert a native into the war.

They were pretty good at encoding messages. Many Germans could speak English and could understand intercepted Allied messages, but Choctaw was unknown to them.

The Miller Batfag in me was relieved when floating up from cave by bats turned out to be just a dream, and satisfied with Batman ruining a warehouse of bad guys.

The barely there Supesfag in me that didn't watch MoS thought it was jarring his first appearance of in BvS was flying a guy into wall sandwich

The DBZfag in me loved the Doomsday fight.

The WW hater in me started to turn around with BvS and went full circle with WW.

All in all okay money spent, let's try some more.
>>
>>93609485
He probably would. His Flash/Supergirl episodes were good and he grew up reading DC comics. I wouldn't be mad if they let him direct a Green Arrow movie or something.
>>
>>93609472

>>
>>93609496
Yes, but we all see the others from the gang eventually make use for their own abilities and somehow redeem the fact that they were actually criminals. It would've been nice if he got it too, and I bet there was something from it on the script that got cut.
>>
>>93609515
Both me & my nephew are Miller Batfags, and while we thought Ben himself was ok, we didn't like Batman gunning down goons.

We're both also on the fence about Superman and agree that Cavill has the looks but I hate this Superman and he doesn't seem to care all that much either.

We also both agreed that WW was the best part of the movie (me being a fan of her from the comics, him not really caring much about her).

We both liked the BvS fight but hated the Doomsday one.

I liked the idea of this new Luthor but I thought his evil plot was poorly written and edited into the movie. He just downright hated him

But most of all, we just got bored as fuck and didn't really feel like we had watched much of Batman and Superman on the screen, but some dudes that were supposed to be them.

What will put the nail on Carol shilling will be if it makes average money at the box office, and fails to really stand out. A film that comes and goes like Doctor Strange or Antman won't cut it.

Basic math time guys

1.- By the end of its first month (31 days), Suicide Squad had a domestic gross of $297,327,572. It ended up making $325,100,054. By this point, Suicide Squad had 27,772,482 left in the tank as of domestic gross.
2.- If Wonder Woman had the same run from this point on out, it'd end up at 374,416,957, just under GotG2.
>b-but who c-cares about domestic lol
Wonder Woman has a perfect 50/50 domestic/overseas split so far (without Japan) so the total worldwide gross would be 748,833,914
3.- Now this is not realistic, Suicide Squad at this point was all but dead. Wonder Woman is performing notably better than Suicide Squad so it's safe to expect that it'll make much more. On their fifth weekends, Wonder Woman made $16,100,000 (estimated) and Suicide Squad $9,910,256. That's a 62.46% more. By simply applying this parameter to Suicide Squad's late gross, we get this estimation: Wonder Woman is going to make $45,119,174 millions more in the United States, leaving her total domestic run at $391,763,649, above Deadpool and GotG2, just 16 million shy of Civil War. Worldwide that's 783,527,298.

Considering the budget, the moderate marketing (so small that feminist raged about it) and the absurdly hard competition, we can safely say that this numbers place this flick among the most succesful capeshit ever.

This is a box office wonder for WB. With 150M production budget, even if the marketing budget was BvS level (which was around 150M), the movie would still made over 100M profit without even adding the upcoming home video gross.

BvS' total profit, which included home video sales, was around 100M.

Spider-Man blew his entire load early with the whole film in trailers and now everyone is disappointed but still giving him a gold star for trying.

The sex jokes write themselves.
>>
>>93611007
An addition: The movie is likely end up doing 750M. Which would mean the box office profit is gonna be around 150M. If home video sales manages to reach Suicide Squad numbers, Wonder Woman's total profit is gonna be around 200M.

That means they literally could afford Wonder Woman 2 to be a utter box office failure.

It's so glaringly obvious that reviewers are giving the Spider-Man movie a pass because it's in the MCU now. If it was entirely a Sony project it'd be just as hated as TASM. It looks so absolutely awful and doesn't resemble anything Spider-Man related at all. What a joke.

I wonder how much JL is going to damage the goodwill that WW has given them. The best outcome is probably a MoS-style mixed reception. Worst case would be a BvS-level disaster. It'll make money anyway, but they need people to actually like the movies if the DCEU is to have any longevity.

>Given Wonder Woman's popularity compared with the tepid returns for Batman's and Superman’s latest outings, it’s not hard to imagine Gadot following in Robert Downey Jr.’s footsteps as the de facto leader of the franchise.

This sounds inevitable. Even if Justice League becomes a success, it will still be a team movie of famous characters but only Wonder Woman will have a successful movie of her own in the last few years. And then we won't get a solo Batman or Superman film again in a while.

Plus, Affleck isn't going to last probably beyond his solo movie. He clearly isn't enjoying this and won't be the face of the franchise, and Cavill just doesn't have the appeal it seems, even though he's like Superman incarnate in real life. I wouldn't be surprised if Aquaman and Wonder Woman come out of Justice League being the two most popular members. Aquaman's solo movie is looking like it's going to be pretty cool.

Getting someone else to direct him might help. Jenkins mentioned somewhere that Superman is the other character she'd like to do. If DC are smart they should try to make the WW2 contract a 2-picture deal with MoS2 in there as well.
>>
>>93611253
I doubt they'd want to wait that long before a new Superman movie comes out. It'd be at least 5 years if they fast tracked both movies. They should just get Sam Raimi or Matthew Vaughn to do Superman.

Not much different than Allan Heinberg; who's only writing credits up until Wonder Woman were a bunch of chick flick TV shows and a short stint on her comics that was mediocre. Geoff Johns and James Wan are credited with the story for the movie, which is a big plus.
>>
>>93611279

The only way he's sticking around is if The Batman is Oscar worthy, which is entirely possible since Matt Reeves is no fluke of a director and loves Batman. WB needs to let him do whatever he wants, even if it means starting over from scratch.

Heinberg's past was more promising but yeah having Johns plotting an Aquman story would definitely help.

The problem with this so called Spider-Man movie is that he doesn't actually stand on his own. Wonder Woman took the hero's journey of discovering her true potential on her own after training with a mentor who respected her. This version of Spider-Man takes a journey to independence but falls short because of Ironman training him like an incompetent child. WW will shine over Spidey because more effort was put into the story. I've given Marvel's AOU and Civil War some slack but I can't excuse the half-assed attempt with Spider-Man.

He was OK in Stargate Atlantis. His performance was fine; never saw the Conan movie, but it's not my type of film. I liked the film he did with his kids about fatherhood. And he was fine, given what he had as dialogue, in Games of Thrones.

I also expect him to be well-received after Justice League and expect his movie to do well, unless it turns out to be a piece of crap and I doubt that because WB suits, rather than being helicopter parents like Marvel Studios is with their films, will likely just get involved enough to keep ANYONE from dumpster firing the movie.

The prep art and prep film of Atlantis that was shown to the exhibitors this spring was very well received.

>Getting someone else to direct him might help. Jenkins mentioned somewhere that Superman is the other character she'd like to do

I'm not sure she's going to sign a multi-picture contract. They will likely offer her a 3 picture deal, including something she wants to do (like the did with Nolan and he got to do Inception) that's outside the DCEU, conditioned on WW2 hitting a certain threshold - she can certainly get a smaller budget to do whatever she wants, but not Inception budget without WW2 being a comparable success.

WB develops good relationships with it's directors, no matter whose in charge - as with George Miller (Nolan again) and others.

Story-wise, it seemed like they were playing up Diana's naivete, believing killing one person would stop a war. She goes through the movie like this and finally kills who she thought was Ares, but everyone keeps fighting. Then the real Ares shows up, she kills him, and they stop fighting. I feel they really dropped the ball here, as Steve Trevor had a whole dialogue about how war isn't so simple, how there isn't just one bad person, and that the evil potential within all men meant that perhaps they were all responsible for the war and that they just had to struggle through it. Having everyone throw down their weapons and hug after Ares was dead kinda shat on that speech. Also for all the emotional stuff between Diana and Steve, would it have killed them to let Diana cry after watching him explode?

Direction-wise, I thought there were a few scenes that really nailed it, No Man's Land and the scene in the village right after were perfect in capturing the emotions of the characters, how broken they were, and how hopeful of the future they were. Everything else was the same boring style of directing you see in most every cape movie outside of the GotG films.

I'd give it a solid B, better than most cape films but there were a few points where it could have been better.

pretty much all my problems with the movie is centered around Gal Gadot. Her acting wasn't particularly great but not terrible, there are too many of these weird action/pose shots of her that they add a slow motion to when it only makes it worse.

Then there's the problem that she was wildly OP compared to the world around her. It is a massive disconnect, they even took the time and effort to make a few good ww1 scenes and locations just to have her prancing around. Once I saw her walking into the gas at the village I knew nothing could even harm her and thus lost any enthusiasm.

I am glad that we got a world war battle buddy team movie though, something I really craved after The First Avenger.

Well it's success is because it takes place in an Academy Award Winning Cinematic Universe.

But it needs 25 millions more to start crushing Cap, and that's only if you purposefully take CW out of the equation

Everyone loves MCU Cap

Cap films are some of the greatest examples of superhero movies ever.

I'm leaving CW because I think it would be unfair to compare WW to Avengers movies, but it's going to come close to that in the US

It's a real oscar for the makeup team and it'll look great on their resumes in the future. No one outside of the industry is watching a movie because it won a makeup oscar, though.

Yeah it's good but the third act is pretty cliche. Go watch when you can or want. It's like The First Avenger but in WW1 and with a lady, but anything like that and The Rocketeer is an instant 8/10 tops for me.
