So Crumb found a Chick-Track somewhere
>>93299757
best thing is, some neonazi magazine published both the nigger comic and the jew comic unironically back in the day
Poe's law in action
>>93296861
>biased social commentary
essentially means he writes about shit you don't agree with.
I think his status as giant pervert, general weirdo, and batshit insanity in all fields, not just social are relevant.
>>93296877
I mean this stuff is practically alpha male chad cucking r9k in fucking 1989. A true visionary.
>>93296899
...and then a transition to a fourth wall break, and THEN he comes in with the perversion.
>can write
>can draw
>gawd, can he draw
>becomes rich and famous by making comics the way he wants
>marries the type of woman he always loved
Now this is living the dream.
>>93298576
And t o take the thing further, he's both a true lover of strong women, AND THICC, as well as doing shit like that. He's definitely one of us and has been since the 60's.
>>93299975
Yes he is one of use, thats why i love him so much. Just read the autobiographical stuff he draw to tell how he was in highschool, just a poor sensitive beta male.
>>93299858
>I mean this stuff is practically alpha male chad cucking r9k in fucking 1989. A true visionary.
it's been a theme in his comics since he started doing comix. hell, it's been a theme in his life, which is why it is so good.
I'd post the comic he drew about himself if he was a caveman, if only I had it
>>93297050
What did he mean by this.
seriously.

This
>>93300937
>He just comes off as a despicable little pervert
that's because he is, and people like him because he's honest about it.
you probably only hate him because you're jealous that he's a superstar pervert and you're just a regular pervert
>>93301133
Being honest about it doesn't make it charming. That's like saying because Trump is open about being a sleazebag it must be okay to be a sleazebag.
^Feel free to kill yourself
>>93301497
Crumb doesn't even try to portray his fetish in a good light though. That's what I mean by him being honest about it.
me irl
>>93296743
>it's a Robert Crumb thread
>>93299858
No, not all. It just means he is biased towards one view and there is no grey area with him. That's my point, not that I don't agree with him. I wasn't trying to demean the man. If I was I would just point out he was the real life version of /b/ who happens to have a pencil.

While drawing like that does take an immense amount of skill, it looks like a cheap Photoshop filter.
He could use the same technique to draw things that are far more visually interesting than what amounts to a solarize/charcoal filter in Photoshop.

It was fashionable back then to see being married and having a job as a horrifying trap.
Now it's fashionable to see eternal manchildhood and unemployment as a horrifying trap.
Solution: stop getting trapped. Honestly, people keep making these vast, cosmic "existential" complaints but can't see past the end of their nose. "Life" sucks because you suck.

>>93298214
Yes, it's fucking amazing, everyone on /co/ should watch it (I think of American Splendor as it's spiritual brother)
>>93297195
I always forget how amazing Crumb's watercolour technique is then I see pieces like this. He honed that shit doing backgrounds for Kurtzman on Little Annie Fanny and when he shows it off, like this...wow.
>>93300937
Because he's a phenomenally good artist and makes people feel a little better about their own sexual/social hangups, I guess. If he was really such a terrible misogynist then he wouldn't have nearly the amount of female fans he does, nor would he have published so many women cartoonists when he was doing Weirdo.
>>93313959
That was on Gary Groth's FB page not that long back. Well, just after Christmas actually..so quite aways back

Self-Loathing/HUP/Mystic Funnies are AMAZING late-period comics by Crumb. Seriously he just gets better and better. I wonder what (sequential work) he'll do next? I really feel he's only just beginning at this stage, to be honest. If he can go beyond the biblical shit, take that experience and somehow funnel it back into his mystic-autobio mode I really feel that we could be in for a highly personal, late-in-life masterpiece. 'Cause that's really the problem with Crumb--he hasn't really got a definitive, long-form work that you can give to someone and say: "THIS is the reason he's one of the greatest of all time!", has he? Sure he has loads of amazing short stories, single issues, the occasional brilliant collection of his work but he hasn't got a, i dunno, David Boring, My New York Diary, Clyde Fans or Rusty Brown. Doesn't mean he's not a better cartoonist than all those who did those books, just that his Great Work is kinda...diffuse.
>>93296743
what are you a racist
Him and Chester Brown have to be my favorite comic artists of all time.
Semi-Related: Does anyone think the R.Crumb handbook is worth getting?
>>93324116
No but the big coffee-table book is (I don't have it but a mate does--the old pre-2000 Taschen book).
Have you read Mary Wept Over The Feet of Jesus? If so what's it like? Is it better than Paying For It (which I thought was fucking awful--but I'm a long-time Chester Brown fan, since 1994 at least)?
>>93324359
It's good, but if you happen to be a practicing Catholic, you're definitely going to find it blasphemous in some respects. I'd say it's better than Paying for it.
>>93320530
>Tell us how the fuck did this happen, Anon?

>>93324435
Not a practising Catholic! I thought the art looked loads better than Paying For It...I think I'll get it, now. I have all his stuff going back to the first Ed The Happy Clown collection and I bought Yummy Fur sporadically from issue 1 'til Brown started doing Underwater (I still have all my issues bagged and boarded). I thought Paying For It was fucking terrible though. Cheers Anon

>>93330033
Dunno about submissive, from http://www.phawker.com/2010/08/12/r-crumb-minds-are-made-to-be-blown/:
>So anway, there’s 10,000 kids hanging off the rafters at Penn Station waiting for the Beatles to arrive and I’m pretty much all by myself at the airport. When they get off the plane, I literally jump over the crowd barrier and get George in a bear hug and I look up at him expecting to see love in his eyes and realize that’s he’s afraid for his life. By then the cops had peeled me off and dragged me away — which, by the way, was captured by a news camera and broadcast on the evening news, much to my parents horror
