Next Saturday is Wally Wood's birthday and to celebrate I'm doing some storytimes all month to celebrate, so tonight we're gonna do witzend. It's an underground comic Wally Wood created to give his friends an outlet to publish stuff they would otherwise not be able to under the constraints of the publishers/CCA. There's some kinda zany stuff in here.

Mr. A is such a weird thing man.
>>93101284I guess that's ONE angel that won't make it to heaven :^)
Some Wally Wood /ss/

Bill Yoshida, aside from lettering the first "Mr. A" story and a couple other stories here, would later be the official letterer of thousands of Archie Comics stories, but most people already know that.

Wait nevermind, that's Ben Oda's work, but Bill Yoshida did letter stories in the witzend series, my bad...
This is the last issue Wood was publisher, he sold witzend to Pearson's Wonderful Publishing Company for the grand total of one dollar. There's a panel with Jim Steranko where he says witzend failing to gain a large reader base was heartbreaking to Wood.

Grass Green was the first African-American cartoonist in both the fanzine and underground comix movements. His work needs more love.
I was going to storytime the continuation of The Wizard King but it seems Vol 1 was never scanned by anyone.

Sorrell Garika is Bill Pearson, and I'm assuming Grass Green did the art.
>>93103191
Oh man, I forgot about this whole thing.
Was Ditko right all along?
>>93103252
I don't know, everyone's entitled to their own opinion but I've heard stories of Ditko throwing away the originals of his artwork because he saw no value in them because he was already paid for that work.
Okay, that's it for the first thread. Gonna finish it up in one more.
