As soon as she gets on her role she seems to shift from trying to prove an innocent party to finding a guilty one. Here's my best guess:

Pink was about to surrender (the reason the gems say Rose won the war) and WD had her killed because there can't be a diamond weak enough to lose a war. YD covered it up because if truth about WD got out, it would lead to a full diamond war that even the combined forced of YD and BD would lose (we know WD has more planets under her control than anyone else). Also, YD did the cover up to protect BD emotionally. The cover up also led to Homeworld thinking they won the war and Earth was uninhabitable. Ever since, YD has been keeping WD at a distance from her and BD out of fear that WD would strike again (the reason WD was not at the trial). The Cluster was the best way to destroy the Earth and remove all evidence of the coverup, since it would only need YD to send a few gems to Earth and the risk of them investigating PD would be low, and they would have no reason to look for Rose (who they believed to be corrupted along with the other gems of earth).

Seem sound, or is there a hole in this theory?

Her character was just a bad joke. Like ten different instances of "lol she's saying what already happened but calling it a prediction." It's similar to how they had that "gems don't know what possessive pronouns are even though they constantly say 'my diamond'" bullshit they pulled with the 'my dad' thing. disregarding the fact that bismuth literally tried to shatter steven because he didnt want her to use the breaking point, steven and bismuth both need to make up in some way or another. He can't just leave her imprisoned forever, it would be a loose end and uncharacteristic for him to not try to mend their relationship, even if they have disagreements.

As much as I like lapis as a character, she legitimately mindfucked jasper for months. She was being unnecessarily vindictive and selfish when she dragged jasper into the ocean, as the CGs could've easily poofed jasper, so her "Im doing this for steven" bullshit was a front to help her feel better about herself. She even admitted that she fed off the anger in their relationship, and having power over jasper. In the end, Lapis was still damaged by the relationship but Jasper was completely broken. Christ, she became so accustomed to the emotional abuse that she could barely bear to be unfused.
