I was thinking about Thunderbolts movies yesterday.
Marvel Studios' primary concern is marketability, i.e. whether a IP can be spun out in a trilogy for maximum money. Does Thunderbolts really have legs? I mean yeah there are 200 issues of material but they tend to rely on having this grand treasure trove on supervillains to dig into and switch around. We already argue enough over how the hell the MCU would be able to assemble the cast for one Thunderbolts film, how the hell could they prospectively do a second and third?

Man, what happened with Speedball/Penance has to be one of the best turn-arounds on shitty writing going. All of the New Warriors had some melodramatic storylines but turning Speedball into Penance was something else. And then, starting with Ellis, they actually rehabilitate him not only back to Speedball but to a place where it is more interesting that he also is/was Penance.

I've gotta be honest, I didn't groove right into the plot Yost was setting up in his NW. But I loved his character interactions, I had faith from the Kaine + Aracely series, and I'm so disappointed we didn't get to see where he was going with Robbie.

Power Pack would work as a sort of family adventure book in my opinion. The biggest problem is that Alex is currently off world with the rest of the Foundation. I would like him to return at some point as I always enjoy the leaders of books the most. There is hopefully going to a Power Pack ongoing for a while, so there is hope for a family reunion though.

As for replacements... I don't think the Four can really be replaced so to speak. They were a family, like many other superhero teams originally before Millar and Bendis fucked that all up. But, throughout all that, the Four always stick together, something that make them really special.

I think that the Blue Marvel family could cover for them, but you couldn't force them into that role, something which a lot of writers seem to forgot. You need to start them off somewhere and slowly have them grow as characters. You can't just slap them down and say, 'Here is your replacement FF', something that occurs with a lot of legacy characters today.

See, as I see it, even Karla herself is unsure if she wants to be a hero or a villain, which is why she's always waffling on it. Maybe if you started from there, it could work, but frankly, that's just one fan's headcanon, so it's hardly a solid foundation.

See, I always thought that Clint is not exactly, shall we say the purest of Avengers. Yes, he is a guy who does what he thinks is right. But, he is emotionally unstable at times, something I honestly think a lot of writers overlook.

I think Karla could serve as this sort of figure who he is trying to 'save' and all the while she is trying to 'corrupt' him. It would be very interesting to see their interactions and their history is certainly a very rich one.

Yeah yeah, but the others are more clear cut about it. Melissa and Abe want to be heroes. Erik wants to be a hero, but kinda sucks at it. Bert just wants a challenge and doesn't give a shit what side he's on. Helmut wants to be a hero, but falls back on villainous methods. Karla though, she's just not sure, so she just kinda rolls with whatever happens, and never really ends up picking a side.
