Pearl is just the best character ever
Prove me otherwise
Seriously, gibe me any evidence thate Pearl is not the best gem, and best character of one of the best cartoons(so far)
P R O T I P :
you fucking can't[
Kill them all! Let Rose sort them out!
She can be very irresponsible, like when she almost got Steven killed during 'Sworn', she is very needy like during 'Cry for help' and she wouldn't care about humans at all if iit hadn't been for Rose.
yeah, but can you blame her? she's just that cool
yes, she is
>wouldnt care for humans...Rose
Syill no evidence as to how Pearl is not the best gearl
Sometimes I get the feeling Pearl is harboring some resentment for Steven. He's basically an embodiment of Rose Quartz sacrificing herself because she loved a human.Garnet and Amethyst seem genuinely interested in Steven's well-being, but I get the feeling that the only reason Pearl cares about him at all is because Rose Quartz asked her to take care of him.
Well... if we view it as a woman who lost her lover because she abandoned her after 6000 years for an alien monkey and died as a consequence, I guess Pearl is actually doing pretty well.
She's a great character, very well rounded with a variety of flaws but also a variety of likable and sometimes even lovable qualities. So much better than your standard "prudish cleanfreak" archetype, she has actual depth and breadth to her.
But I think the show gives her too many episodes and too much screentime. There are so many "Pearl episodes" compared to any other character (besides Steven himself), especially the other two Crystal Gems. I understand why, now: it's because the writers figured out that she can be a good foil to EVERY other character. You can drum up some believable rapport / drama between Pearl and every other character, easy, so there's a lot of episodes dedicated to just that. Steven and Pearl do X, Garnet and Pearl do Y, it feels like half the episodes. Meanwhile, it's much harder to create entertaining drama between, say for example, Amethyst and Garnet. Garnet doesn't actively disapprove of Amethyst because she's more patient and wise than Pearl, but Garnet's also so impartial that they don't have much fun dialogue. Also, Pearl's VA is the best singer in the cast (which is really saying something, Garnet, Steven and Ameth are all excellent but Pearl's broadway VA is just that good), so the writers want to give her more songs.
So yea, I understand why Pearl is so front and center in the show, but I don't excuse it. They could try harder to find ways to give say, Greg and Garnet better dialogue, and do more episodes where the group as a whole interact more like in Watermelon Steven and The Test. Right now there's just way too many "Pearl and X do stuff" episodes and they get all the best songs.
I don't think it's so much about irresponsibility as it is an insular view of humans. Pearl acts like she's stuck babysitting a mentally handicapped child.
Could be Rose Quartz's fault for skewing Pearl's view of humans, though. Probably gave her some speech about how fragile and fleeting their lives are but that's what makes them so wonderful and beautiful.
The glory of it was: nobody was coercing her. In fact Steven and the Gems were trying to stop her.
Face to face with her queen-goddess and in spite of everything she ever was raised to believe, she decided: this is wrong. I won't be a part of it.
That puts her on Rose Quartz' level, if you ask me.
>Mozart isn't dead, he went to space. Prove me wrong.
>Seriously, search every inch of the universe until you can show there isn't any place where Mozart could be hiding.
>You can't, therefore my claim is true.
I want to punch the person who started this meme.
Yes, that was exactly my point.
You don't invite constructive discussion by, like the OP of this thread, making a baseless assertion on a subjective topic and preemptively declaring the discussion closed due to your claim being impossible to disprove.

Let's dispel this fiction once and for all that Rose Quartz doesn't know what she's doing. She knows exactly what she's doing; she's undergoing a systematic effort to change this planet and make Homeworld more like the rest of the galaxy. Under a Yellow Diamond authority, we'll embrace what makes Homeworld the greatest planet in the universe.
So, we're not going to address the entire Sardonyx arc?
That doesn't excuse her actions. If you kill somebody, you're a murderer. If you rape someone, you're a rapist. Since what pearl did the equivalent to gem rape, how can these actions still not ruin her rep?
I'm watching how far you missed the point. It's still going... and going... and going...
Because it wasn't rape. Garnet gave consent.
She agreed to fuse with Pearl, she had a choice, and she didn't seem to suffer from the act itself. It's a really terrible selfish thing Pearl did, but legally it would be different from rape.
There are no convicted cases of rape by deception (a dubious concept to begin with) in real life where the *reason* for having sex was a lie.
And it doesn't matter because fusion is not sex.
You're partially right. She was extorted due to the threat of home world getting message from a fake signal. For the gems, that is the equivalent of "Fuck me, or there will be war" Considering that threats are treated as assault in my home country, force was still used to obtain sexual favors. According to Canadian law, there is a case for this being rape.
>"Fuck me, or there will be war"
Those were not the only two options. Nothing in the episode implies Garnet was reluctant.
If she didn't want to fuse with Pearl, she could've fused with Amethyst and kept smashing the pieces of the tower until they were impossible to repair. She had a choice.
>If she didn't want to fuse with Pearl, she could've fused with Amethyst
She already said why she couldn't fuse with Amethyst, a reason Pearl is aware of when she made all those plans.
So pathetic is Pearl, that even though she is the second most senior Crystal Gem in the rebellion, she was not qualified to be the leader when Rose croaked. It was not her but Garnet who ended up the leader after Rose's demise.
Pearl is just that useless and incompetent, nothing more than a weak bottom bitch. Fucking weak!
Was this show cancelled after the whole mini peridot thing? I haven't seen anything new about it here.
>she couldn't fuse with Amethyst
But she did fuse with Amethyst later, so she clearly was physically able to do so, and nothing bad happened as a result of it.
I can think of several ways they could've destroyed the tower permanently. Garnet does not speak or emote as though she was pressured at any point in the story. She enjoyed it.
>So pathetic is Pearl, that even though she is the second most senior Crystal Gem in the rebellion, she was not qualified to be the leader when Rose croaked. It was not her but Garnet who ended up the leader after Rose's demise.
That's because she's still a Pearl.
She's still essentially a slave.
That never changed.
Rose was her master and she "joined" the Rebellion because her master did.
She lives to serve.
>But she did fuse with Amethyst later,
Yeah because she had to, after Pearl became the worst possible option.
But before, the conditions were such that Garnet was going to choose Pearl, and Pearl constructed her plan around that notion.
If only Pearl would develop into a character that wasn't god-awful.
>HAHA HERE AMETHYST TAKE THIS FUCKING BOMB I'M SURE YOU'LL KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT
And we know she's smart so it's not a matter of intelligence, she's just a cowardly, panicking weakling who constantly puts her friends in danger, most of all Steven.
Still doesn't explain why she chose an option that she knew HAD FAILED THE FIRST AND SECOND TIMES.
What exactly did she plan on doing if she never found out what was going on, if the tower was repaired ten more times? Twenty? Fifty? Every day until the invasion fleet comes? Is that just her life now?
If Garnet is that stupid, then she's unfit to give consent under any circumstances.
And again, it doesn't matter. Not sex, not rape.
>Still doesn't explain why she chose an option that she knew HAD FAILED THE FIRST AND SECOND TIMES.
Because the failure had nothing to do with Sardonyx, it had to do with the tower being rebuilt after they form Sardonyx. The option is irrelevant as far as Garnet knew because she didn't know Pearl was the one rebuilding it. Because she trusted her. Which is why what Pearl did was so reprehensible.
Is this really so difficult for you to understand?
Pearl makes best Fusions.
All her Fusions are charismatic and confident.
The opposite of Pearl, for some reason.
But nonetheless, Opal, Sardonyx, and Rainbow Quartz are all best.
DESTROY. THE. TOWER. IN. SUCH. A. WAY. THAT. IT. CAN'T. BE. REBUILT.
The first and second times, the tower was gently dismantled into maybe 20 large intact slabs that could be assembled in a matter of minutes with no apparent new material, and just left there on the ground.
Is that the best they could do? Clearly using Sardonyx was not a viable option. You say the problem was that it got rebuilt, but it was completely Garnet's choice to leave all the pieces there to be rebuilt in the first place. Why not at least bring one piece back to the temple and hide it?
>let alone one of the best characters ever
She may not be best gem, but she's a QT.
well you see OP
despite pearl being a good nay even great character
Garnet exist in the greater cartoon cannon so peal cannot be the best. I'm sorry
and ultimately, Sardonyx also exist in the greater cartoon cannon so not even garnet is the best
I imagine in some way they're hoping to still have contact with homeworld or keeping it in case they need tech to be able to get to them in an emergency. The gems are species traitors, but I imagine theres still a little hard coded loyalty/the understanding that if earth destroys itself, they could probably go back to being homeworld gems again.
Jasper did nothing wrong.
She's literally a flawless character.
