Basically, Batman doesn't kill Joker for a couple reasons:

1) It's not a very compelling story. Sure, it's been done. Batman has KILLED Joker quite a few times now. But it's routinely artless, usually uninteresting, and mainly a bottom-of-the-barrel way for a writer to let the reader know that ANYTHING can HAPPEN. Injustice is a perfect example of this: as a whole, that's a very stupid story. It's still be enjoyable, however, due to its lawless, anyone-can-die, the-apocalypse-is-nigh setting. Essentially, if Batman can kill the Joker in this story, you better reset your expectations cause shit is gonna get cray.

2) Joker is one of DC's premier characters. Very few characters in cape comics, or even fiction for that matter, can claim to have as high a pedigree as clown boy. Because of this, a story featuring the Joker will inevitably make more money than one featuring Killer Croc or Black Mask or even Penguin. Warner Bros, the owner of DC, is a massive company and they fucking love money.

It's hard to sell new villains because they've either been done before or people just aren't interested.
And after that writer leaves, the next writers usually aren't interested and either want to create their own villains or use more well known villains.

Hush and Court of Owls are probably the biggest and more important villains created in a past ~10-15 years.
Though if CoO hadn't been the start of the New 52 and if Snyder hadn't stayed long enough to be apart of two weeklies and a couple crossovers, then that probably wouldn't even be the case.

Batman became absolute dogshit, ever since joker shot barbara. Ever since that each writer tries to make bigger shock to the readers with edgier and edgier stories, but because killing characters is just not the way of the comics you have bullshit like barbara being batgirl again, jason and damian being resurrected, batman/joker dying, being resurrected, losing their memories, gaining their memories back and in the end of it the status quo is absolutely the same.


No more fun stories where batman uses his intelligence to solve crimes, now it's all about tech and armors that seem to come out of a Iron Man comic.

We've almost 4 batcomics out (detective comics, B&R, Batman and previously Batman eternal) where absolutely nothing worthwhile happened. No changes on the status quo, no new good character, nothing.

And I say all of that as a batfag.
