Does anyone actually like Psylocke or do people just jack off to her?
>>
>>79793275
Marvel characters have no substance just style and reddit quips, Just look a deadpool.

So yeah we just jackoff to the bitch
>>
>>79793275
after reading uncanny x-force vol 2 and v3 and currently reading uncanny x-men with her on the team i still dont like her, in fact i liked fantomex more than her
>>
I like her, although her I AM WEAPON, I CAN'T FEEL shtick she pushes last few years is dull as fuck.
>>
>>79793275
... I don't understand the question.
>>
I'd like her more if she was still Captain Britain's mutant sister, rather than bodyswapped psychic ninja who dresses like a stripper.
>>
>>79793275

Oldfag here who's been reading X-Men stuff since the 1980s.

I liked her in her original form, when she was this kind of classy upper-class British psychic. Once she became what she is now, I feel that most writers had no fucking clue what to do with her which would be both interesting and true to the character. I mean, what you basically had was this person who was 1/2 classy upper-class British woman and 1/2 ambiguously-defined oriental stereotype with no defined background, backstory or substance, and that latter half is mostly what was on display. How the fuck do you write something like that in a manner which is remotely identifiable to any reader?

Uncanny X-Force is the first and only time since, like 1990 that I didn't actively dislike this version of her. I felt like Remender was able to create a vision of the character which rung true and had a legitimate emotional core to her.

Aside from that, though, what you've mostly got is this weird artifact of Jim Lee's desire to draw a sexy ninja character and Chris Claremont's creepy transformation fetish who's coasted on visuals for decades.

I want to see Cypher and Betsy get together.
>>
>>79793470
Why can't she be both?
>>
>>79793275
She was THE most fapped to comic character of the 90s. I'm old enough to remember. Even my friends that didn't read comics knew who Psylocke was. Everyone just knew her as fap bait.
>>
>>79793529

original Psylocke was just a purple flavor instead of red flavor Jean Grey tho. I mean she had no distinguishable characteristics that made her stand out from any other "stand back and do telepathy" character.
>>
>>79793275
The 2nd
>>
>>79793832
Except that Jean was a founding member of the X-Men, while Betsy was untested and untrusted, and Wolverine let her know frequently in that period that he didn't give a shit about her. This was later remedied when she basically soloed Sabretooth (when beating Sabretooth was a pretty impressive feat).

She also happened to be on the team during the Australia era, which was the best "run" on X-Men ever. That makes her good by default.
>>
>>79794066
>This was later remedied when she basically soloed Sabretooth (when beating Sabretooth was a pretty impressive feat).

Drawn by Alan Davis no less. That was a great issue.

Then later after she became a ninja slut she soloed Sabretooth again and made him her whipping boy. And then Scott Lobdell had him beat her into a coma because he's fucking shit.
>>
>>79793529

This pretty much. I never knew her as anything other than fap bait until Uncanny X-Force. Even then I wasn't all that into her, but it definitely wasn't objectively bad like 99% of her stuff is
>>
>>79793470
>le stripper meme
go normie go
>>
>>79794086
>hating Lobdell
It made sense in context. Her old tricks didn't work anymore.
>>
Psylocke is a better fighting game character than comic book character.
>>
>>79794148
Lobdell is one of the shittiest X-Men writers.
>>
>>79794419
Which doesn't say much, since the worst x-men writer is still better than many other writers
Yup, Austen is better than many other writers
>>
>>79794419
Lobdell's Uncanny run was better than Claremont's two additional attempts, Davis's, Casey's, Austen's, Brubaker's, Fraction's, and Bendis's. He's on the short-list of mediocre-to-decent writers who have been on the title (Claremont's first run, Seagle, Gillen).
>>
>>79793275
that'd be choice b, sir
>>
>>79793275
>people just jack off to her
>>
>>79793275

What's the essential reading for Psylocke?
>>
>>79795769
Claremont run for actual character, Lee art for fapping, r34 for advanced-tier fapping
>>
>>79793529
>this weird artifact of Jim Lee's desire to draw a sexy ninja character

What's the story behind this, because it sounds really fucked up
>>
/co/ doesn't like female characters it can't jack-off to.
>>
>>79796523
>female characters it can't jack off to
Nigga what? I don't know of any. I've busted to Faith and the Slurm Queen. Impossible is nothing.
>>
>>79796523

Actually /co/ hates female characters that are sexualized.

Always have, always will.
>>
>>79796271
Jim Lee just likes drawing sexy women, that's all there is to it. He gave Huntress an exposed belly and refused to draw Cassandra Cain because she looked like a shoe. Old Betsy with the armor and the cape wasn't nearly sexy enough for him.

>Chris Claremont's creepy transformation fetish who's coasted on visuals for decades.
What I've realized about many of the old Claremont stories is that there are so many physical changes to main characters that would have stayed permanent if not for some magical wave of a psychic finger, or a machine made by Forge or aliens making everything right off panel at the last minute.
>Eric the Red re-ages Magneto into an adult
>Storm and Emma Frost switching minds (Sebastian Shaw totally fucked Emma possessed Storm's body)
>X-Men turning into Brood and getting cured by magical space whale soul crystal
>Professor X turning into a Brood and getting a clone body that the Starjammers just happened to have on their ship
>Colossus trapped in cooled molten steel til the Morlock Healer healed him
>Karma gets morbidly obese and loses the weight on a walk through a magical Asgardian desert
>Jean getting tentacle arms and Banshee's mouth fused shut by Masque, only to be cured by a machine by Forge

Makes me wonder about how often permanent changes affected the story like Illyana and Rachel's arcs, and the results of the Mutant Massacre.

It's Miller time.jpg
13 KB, 342x342
>>79793275
It's a costume based on Elektra's (because apparently a small minority of female Hand ninja dress that way officially), which Frank Miller is on-record as saying was his jackoff fantasy when he was too poor to afford porn or whores and too busy drawing Daredevil to have time for a loving relationship, which would also be impossible because women are whores who make sammiches.

>>79794147
You're literally looking at something Frank Miller drew and jacked off over sometime in the early 80s, modified to make it even less concealing/more visually distinct from Elektra herself.

You saying Frank wouldn't fantasize about strippers? Are you calling Frank Miller a homosexual? What's wrong with you? Why do you hate America?
>>
>>79793275
First I liked her for being fapbait, then I liked her because her Psiblade assist was invincible and covered Magneto well in the fighting games, then going back and reading her story I appreciated how she's just a big pisstake of mass media in general.
>>
>>79793275
Yes OP. Yes I do.
>>
I liked British Psylocke when she wore armour. Asian... well.. there were some good moments in the 90s. Like the tale where Revanche dies.
>>
>>79797981

I wonder if Claremont kept testing editorial to see what he could get away with He did it on his Fantastic Four run as well.
>>
>>79793275
Pretty much option b
>>
>>79799952
Finally. Someone remembers Revanche.

>>79794066
That issue was awesome. I find the whole Celtic mythology origin very fascinating. ..too bad it seems to be forgotten.
>>
>>79797853

Obviously, but why change Psylocke from a prim brit into an Azn pair of tiddies
>>
>>79793275
Shes a great anti air assist in mvc2
>>
>>79801766
Having a Psylocke based on fairies, underworlds and magical henges would be much better than I KILL BUT I DON'T WANT TO KILL BUT I KILL ANYWAY EVEN THOUGH I HATE IT
>>
>>79793275
we just jack off

even if she got some development in the uncanny xforce books, whenever she was used outside them that dev. was quickly reversed
>>
>>79801829

Shit, celtic mythology Psylocke sounds really fucking cool
>>
>>79793348
Fantomex is the best Marvel character created after 2000 (besides Barracuda) so that's not surprising

>>79802307
Dude, even Wraith is a better character
>>
>>79793275

Is she a slut or do people just like to say she's a slut?
>>
>>79803150
>wraith

no

but fantomex is overrated by morrisonfags
>>
>>79803611
>Is she a slut or do people just like to say she's a slut?

she is consistently written as a slut
>>
>>79801795
It started out as one of Claremont's usual body-horror stories. Hell, originally, there wasn't even a bodyswap. Betsy had just been cosmetically altered. That's why Wolverine recognized her by scent. Claremont would have certainly changed Betsy back in due course.

But this is during the period where Jim Lee's star was rising and Claremont's was fading. Lee got more and more influence on the book while Claremont was feeling increasingly cut off and unappreciated. So Claremont ended up leaving and Lee was permitted to indulge in his Jim Lee-ness.
>>
>>79794066
>Australia era
>best run ever

Nah, Byrne's and Paul Smith's runs are much better. Plus Australian team sucked (Dazzler, Longshot, Havok and pre-ninja Betsy that nobody cares)
>>
>>79794419
His run is still better than most of what we got these last decade.
>>
>>79803648
>>79803611

She's not a slut.
>>
I enjoy Psylocke but I admit most of her appearances are poor, or have been since she came back in Fraction's run.

Uncanny X-Force v1 and X-Force v4 are decent recent reads for Psylocke, and I think she had a good moment or two with Magneto in Gillen's run.
>>
>>79803991
OH, and the Fantomex/Psylocke arc from Uncanny X-Force v2 was pretty good both in terms of characterization and jack off material.
>>
>>79793275
>Does anyone actually like Psylocke or do people just jack off to her?

There is less of a difference between those two things than you imagine.
>>
>>79803984
>fucks most male/some female teammates
>uses her sexuality to subdue villains when her other skills fail
>not a slut
>>
>>79804083
desu you could say the same thing about most of the X-Men.
>>
>>79803648
Post Body Swap, she throws herself all over Cyclops before Jean put a stop to that shit like an issue before her and Scott are married but after that it's just Warren and the Famtomexs really, Claremont had attached Betsy with Rachel Summers during his last Uncanny run but nothing explicit was ever shown

pre body swap she had 0 charisma so she only had Doug Ramsey lusting after her, that never went anywhere since he was a New Mutant and he died before Betsy got popular.
>>
>>79806089

Her going for Cyke was canon because Revance memories were fucking her up in the head.
