Here's the first proposed sketch that Iwao Takamoto did of the Scooby-Doo characters in 1969.
>Fred is about to jump in Mazinger Z
>Velma is about the unleash her Super Art
>Scooby knows you'll clean up his shit
>Shaggy has already stolen your wallet
>Daphne about to unleash her stand
of course they do, They're just the shiity kind of stands somewhere in between Joseph and Jotaro's mom.
Velma has her glasses that allow her to see through disguises. Fred has his ascot.
Daphne has... boobs?
No they aren't Hippies are about peace and free love and shit, Beatniks are about experiencing your life, making it real, being with the bros, and having lots of sex with the bros, no homo though bro.
Beatniks play bongos and get high in drum circles in shitty peotry nigtclubs while hippies play bongos and get high in drum circles outside. The real difference is location and how much bathing takes place.
having a hell of a time getting captchas to work
>Originally titled Mysteries Five, the dog who later became Scooby was originally more of a sidekick character - a bongo-playing dog named "Too Much" whose breed varied between Great Dane and sheepdog between treatments.
If the Saturn V rocket is designed by a German rocket scientist living in America does that mean Nazis laded first on the moon?
Scooby was designed to the direct opposite of what the ideal Great Dane was supposed to look like.
“There was a lady that bred Great Danes [that worked at HB]. She showed me some pictures and talked about the important points of a Great Dane — like a straight back, straight legs, small chin and such. I decided to go the opposite and give him a hump back, bowed legs, big chin and such. Even his color is wrong.”
I think they even worked that into an episode more than once.
>he animated on Sleeping Beauty
I guess that explains Daphne
Crazy how changing someone's pose can tell you something completely different about the characters. They almost come off as hoodlums here. Shaggy in particular looks like he's ready to shiv someone.
>Shaggy looks like an asshole in this sketch.
And Velma looks like a rapist, Fred looks like a gay fag (I mean even more so than usual), and Daphne looks like she knows that it's her turn tonight to fuck Scooby. Scooby looks like he knows it too.
Well look at that, Velma being a titty monster is a meme.
Velma Scooby and Shaggy were the "funny" characters, so I can kinda understand drawing them with silly smiles while Fred and Daphne have the more "serious" poses. The half-lidded eyes gives them a really smug look though, and I don't know know if that's exactly what Takamoto was going for
What? She clearly has a pretty big rack even in those images; it's just her clothes are baggy. Plus episodes like the Hawaii one showed that she had a thin waist under that sweater.
Scooby was made by a fucking gook?
I grow up watching a shitty western anime then?
Except Daphne is only sort of of, whereas Aurora is the all-time best Disney princess.
Shaggy Rogers, and his Stand, Who Let The Dogs Out.
He was born american, he mostly worked as a character designer Ann the crew he worked with wasn't japanese you fucking imbecile.
Like, you can see the evil spirit too man?
the entire Scooby-Doo team were all fighters with stands who were fighting and catching stand users. Normal people referred to them as "ghosts" and "monsters" that they never actually saw, only the effects the stands had, such as footprints or broken items.
Shaggy's stand is Scooby, the ultimate thinking/fighting machine. The drawback is the stand needs to be recharged through Scooby-snacks, so Shaggy must eat them to keep his stand at the peak of his ability.
Fred's stand is the Mystery Machine, a van full of resources that doesn't need gas and has no milage limit. The van will turn into an unusable junker if Fred dies.
Velma's stand is her glasses that allow her to perceive evidence faster and see through disguises, the only drawback is without them, she can't see anything.
Daphne's stand is her scarf/headband which work as a cloak to make herself visually beautiful to anyone who sees her, and is usable to seduce anyone she chooses to receive information through interrogation and use people to her advantage.
Why did this picture have added transparency?
>shaggy trying to bluff his way through darby's games
Oh man I was this to happen so badly. That polar opposite of Jotaro's toughness.
>Coming soon: New Scooby Doo!
>A take on the classic series that catches the darkness and edge of the original pitch that could never reach television!
>Fred: The leader of the team with a heroic resolve, devoting his life to solving mysteries and foiling the crooked schemes that go on within society. A master of traps, he possesses both a keen mind and strong body, and is as capable of overpowering his foes as he is outwitting them.
>Velma: A skeptic who decided to join up with Fred, not out of the goodness of her heart but to further broaden her understanding of the unknown, whatever the cost. Her hunger for knowledge can often land her in trouble, but she can always think her way out of any situation with an unrivaled intellect and an eye for detail.
>Shaggy and Scooby: A covetous duo who were caught in the act by Fred, they now tag along to avoid jailtime by lending their skills to the team. Shaggy is a master of disguise and misdirection, capable of tripping up even the most experienced criminals, and his loyal companion Scooby is unequivocally sneaky, capable of pilfering anything in the blink of an eye. Although unapologetically selfish, the duo ultimately stick around to honor their agreement with Fred... and to maybe find the score of a lifetime in their travels.
>Daphne: A longtime friend of Fred who joined up for the thrill, she is the one who provides funding for the team, and uses her numerous connections to learn of new crimes and arrange meetings with those involved. Charming and seductive when called upon, few can hide anything from her once she has her sights set on them. Only Fred has been able to resist her feminine wiles, a challenge she is more than happy to accept.
>Together, this rag-tag team fights monsters, ghouls, and alien creatures, all the while trying to unravel a conspiracy that has enthralled the entire country! Can they come together to survive, or will their differences doom them?!
>Shaggy is Lupin III
>Fred is Kamen Rider
>Velma's a slut
>Daphne is Fujiko Mine
I've haven't laughed this hard in a while, thanks anon.
The best part is that these aren't too far off canon-wise, according to Mystery Inc.
Why does that look way more modern than anything out of that era? Like that looks like modern day fanart of the show.
Is it really the coloring that makes this shit seem way older than it is? Like this screams >>79693903 Hanna Barbera.
"Zoinks, anon. Is that a double-triple-decker sardine and marshmallow-fudge sandwich in your pants, or are you, like, just happy to see me?"
Start with "Where Are You", the ones with Guest Stars are cute it if were living in the 80 when most of these people were still alive or know about the 60s/70s enough to appreciate the caricatures. (Scooby Doo and Adam West Batman is pretty much a classic).
Thirteen Ghosts is great if you love Price's voice and can stomach Flim Flam and Scrappy.
Terror on Zombie Island is a must see movie. It was animated by ex-SWAT Kats animators using a recycled SWAT Kats plot. Animation has quality to it and the whole movie is surprisingly dark.
Mystery Inc. is a must.
