>>79680417 It's a deliberately exaggerated and cartoony rendering of an actual identifiable facial expression by someone who's clearly skilled, it's absolutely nothing like the new Squirrel Girl beside also having a vaguely hip tumblr webcomic aesthetic
He's already written some stuff for Marvel in the past which was all well received around here. Just because you started off with a webcomic, doesn't mean you're not talented enough to make it into real comics. There are some examples, but this guy genuinely deserves his shot.
>>79682319 >Just because you started off with a webcomic, doesn't mean you're not talented enough to make it into real comics. No, only into Marlel or Imagay. >this guy genuinely deserves his shot in the head Fixed.
>>79683022 >Jealousy is very expensive, I save it for talented people. This might be the stupidest attempt at wit I've read all day. It doesn't even make sense. You sure you don't write a webcomic yourself?
I love Babs Tarr's art, it was the original reason I picked up the new run to begin with, but I had to drop it a few issues back. The wedding issue was the last straw where they just brought Grayson in to shit on him.
The writing is just bad. Fletcher and Stewart do not flesh out their characters at all. There were how many issues devoted to Alysia getting married? They gave no reason for readers who jumped on with the new creative team to give a shit about her wedding or her fiance being in danger. Alysia pops up in a couple panels and we're told that her and Barbara are just the best of friends and so close, but we are never shown any reason why. Why should I care about the wedding of this character I know nothing about?
The "big reveal" of her co-worker at the college being involved in a villain's scheme was pointless. We hardly see Barbara do anything at the college or interact with this guy outside of the first issues of the run and now we're supposed to care that he's done something wrong? I'm sure most readers forgot who he was at that point.
The biggest irritant for me was the forced romance between Barbara and Luke Fox. They bump into each other a handful of times on a mission of Barbara's and suddenly they're in love and dating? When they kissed I was really confused because it came out of nowhere. There was no build up or demonstration of their chemistry. We're just told they are into each other now, deal with it.
>>79683612 >TFW posting all kinds of crap on my tumblr >D&D-related stuff gets constant reblogs and likes >The most I got from DC content is for Harley Quinn-related screencaps Tumblr is sort of predictable.
>>79683787 I suppose you're right, but it really stuck out to me because it was the only consistent subplot I can remember. The run seems to have no plan, no overarching plot or theme. They start out with Barbara going to grad school and working on a project, but that gets dumped so fast. Then we just get random stories of a computer Babs, a cross dressing villain, Livewire, and tiger lady.
tumblr will constantly get up in arms with DC for so much as breathing, while Marvel gets praised up and down for doing the same shit. this is because Marvel has learned that tumblr can easily be distracted by women in colorful, but not skin revealing costumes, along with quick zingers that can be reblogged a hundred times over.
>>79684272 I wish I still had the images that laid out just how much more diverse DC's line is and how they have a more diverse group of artists and writers working for them. It is really strange that Marvel gets this blind support.
>>79684484 Come on man. Not only is this Gotham, where if you're black there's a 90% chance you're related to Lucius Fox in some way, this is the gentrified hipster neighborhood in Gotham. It's more amazing the entire gang isn't white.
>>79684310 it's a shame but tumblr, hell most comic sites in general, doesn't care nearly as much for creators as they do for characters. which is nuts to me because those creators are the ones making the characters and writing them and drawing them.
>>79685529 >social media That's shits pervasive in today's world retard. >some social event Normal people gonout you autistic piece of shit >interacting with a boy I know talking tonthe opposite sex is a scary concept to you but people do it
>>79685678 I'm reading a CAPE comic. Why the FUCK would anyone anyone think that's a good idea to include in a CAPE comic. Fuck off, if I want to read some shitty teen romance book I'll do that.
I don't care what you guys think about Batgirl. I've always liked her character. This book is absolute garbage now. When the entire series consists of a teenage girl doing regular teenage girl shit with her tumblrina friends, it's gone down hill. She's not a regular teenage girl, she's batgirl.
>>79683745 Which kind of leads back to why I wonder why they don't just ignore them and talk about stuff they like. Some just get off on being outraged that these versions of Batgirl and Squirrel Girl exist.
>>79685774 Liking Babsgirl means liking this. She's always been a less serious more "lucks into winning" cape that faces weaker threats. That's why the only good Batgirl is Cass. Now inb4 racists accuse me of yellow fever because that's the only way in their minds an asian female character can have fans.
>>79685827 Batgirl is likable, but then I've never read many of her primary books, and the ones I have, I didn't enjoy as much as the recent run of Batwoman ones.
Batwoman has her head on straight. She does about as well as you could expect from someone who "isn't Batman". It's not really a gender or sex thing, it's just that "He's fucking Batman". Everyone like them is derivative of, and lesser than him as a whole.
There are Bat Family members and "tribute Capes" that follow his example who approach or even exceed him in some qualities, but generally speaking, he's the most well rounded and successful, besides being hyper competent. Physically he is also generally the peak of "beating ass old school" and just generally going all medieval on people. He's a big guy. A big, skilled guy will on balance, kick more ass than other equally skilled people. And Bruce is pretty fucking big.
But yeah, just to reiterate, Batwoman seems to have found a nice niche. She handles some of the crap that Bruce is too busy for, and has leads into stuff that's a little tougher for him, often. Batgirl seems like I dunno, kind of a piker compared to her, honestly. She's always going to be the kid sister or mission control. She can run around and clean up little Bat Family messes, but to me, the character and the way they write her are straight "Robin tier" material. She is not really up to "A-lister Rogue or Bat Threat" situations alone. She punches the henchmen and lackies of a-listers in the mouth, not the a-listers. On a good day, the Joker is too much for her. On a bad day, she might get one over on him, but at his best, she's beneath him.
>>79685774 >mfw reatrds have never read silver and bronze age comics that heavily focus on the characters social and love lives Decompressed shitty long action sagas are new to cape comics. Read Batman or Detective not Batgirl
>>79686107 >Less serious is perfectly fine. Here's the thing. I agree that less serious superheroes are fine, but not when they don't have powers. Powers are a safety net that means that you can slum it a little. If you're bulletproof, then you can be a little more silly.
But the Bat Family needs to take shit seriously and be at the top of their game 100% of the time, or they'd die and fail. That's the basic premise of being a Bat-person. So when the Batgirl book says "We need to move our hacking operation to a secure location so that the bad guys can't track us" and then said hacker goes to STARBUCKS, that's kind of fucked up.
>>79686162 Social aspects and love lives are perfectly fine. When it's ENJOYABLE. None of the Batgirl supporting characters from the new run are likable and they're shoved down your throat 24/7. I like when characters interact. I like when it builds upon their personality. This is absolute shit.
Batman is a shit and I will not read his new 52 edge. I enjoyed the cute supe/bats pre 52 book because they had good chemistry and the social interaction was pleasant. See? here's the difference.
While i love Babs Tarr's art, and the look of the Batgirl of Burnside, i have to say, the writing has been lacking this 2nd story arc. I don't understand why Stewart and Fletcher thought it would be a good idea to have the 2nd arc be about Barbara's brain again, when that was the entire plot of the first arc.
The idea of the brain scan gone insane was a very interesting idea, but now that someone is "hacking" Barbara's brain erasing memories, it feels like they are trying way to hard to prove that this younger hipster Batgirl Barbara is still Oracle Barbara on the inside.
People who dig The Batgirl of Burnside want Batgirl adventures, not "OMG Barbara's brain!"
The current arc also puts Barbara into the role of "the victim" with everyone else around her needing to keep her on her feet, including newbie superhero Spoiler.
Seriously, i think Stewart is so disgruntled about the SJW backlash of the transvestite and the variant cover, that he gave up on writing decent fun Batgirl adventures, and is just doing it for the paycheck at this point.
Bryan Q. Miller did a better job at consistently writing a more simple but fun Batgirl comic in the old continuity with Stephanie Brown.
>>79686944 >I don't understand why Stewart and Fletcher thought it would be a good idea to have the 2nd arc be about Barbara's brain again, when that was the entire plot of the first arc. Probably because if they keep talking about how Babs is brilliant and how it's a bad idea to threaten her genius brain, people will forget they haven't actually written her as being particularly smart.
Go read Batgirl Year One. Stephanie was Year One Barbara to the teeth. Same attitude. Same quirky humor. Stephanie was written was a Year One Babs clone way more than Burnside Babs is written was pre-FP Stephanie.
>>79682487 She's a beginner comic artist and, big surprise, comics take a long time to draw. Most comic artists cut corners in some way, and honestly, if you can still tell what's going on in the panels the comic is getting its job done. Your eyeballs scan the panels for half a second. It's not like Henderson where every panel has wonky mouths and caveman brows.
Have you ever drawn a single thing in your life, or even talked to an artist? Just curious.
>>79691596 >She's a beginner comic artist And she's also been drawing for several years
They have a month to finish like 20 pages, Jack Kirby was putting out around a hundred pages a month during the 60s and they still look significantly better than people with more time are able to shit out today
>Most comic artists cut corners in some way, and honestly, if you can still tell what's going on in the panels the comic is getting its job done. Who needs standards when you can meet the bare minimum, truly wise words Pfft visual storytelling, just look at a panel for a few seconds and pay more attention to the crappy dialogue!
> It's not like Henderson where every panel has wonky mouths and caveman brows. Actually it's a lot like that But the difference is that Babs is curvy so you fags are okay with it now
>>79691746 Got to love the "it's her style" excuse.
