I don't get why this is such a problem with Thor. Captain America movies have their own identity, Guardians have their own identity, everything is at least a little unique and usually still manages to work.
It's only Thor and maybe Iron Man that really get pushed into this MCU mold and it never quite fits. So it cuts of interesting pieces and other parts are left feeling empty.
