Good evening owls of /co/,
This crazy train don't stop until #75
So, umm, that was an eventful solicits thread even if those solicits largely sucked.
I know, my blood sugar had gotten pretty low after spending the afternoon swearing at plants (justifiably) and when I clicked I got mad
That Bolts poster, though. It better be real. And good.
>KRUL IS BACK
>TED GRANT IS ALIVE
>APOLLO IS COMING
>KRUL IS BACK
>KRUL IS BACK
>KRUL IS BACK
>KRUL IS BACK
so yeah, why is Lobdell, why is Tomasi writing a whole crossover himself???
>why is Tomasi writing a whole crossover himself???
filler/drawer script before new creative teams/relaunches? I cannot imagine that Tomasi will actually be writing four Superman books all by himself
Your disappointment only makes me stronger.
>Kurt Busiek Popped back in on Twitter after taking Katie to the doctor, and the first words I saw were “whiny emo fuckboy pissbabies.” Boo-yah Twitter.
>why is Lobdell
DC doesn't care about TT even though they pretended to by retconned NTT back in
>why is Tomasi writing a whole crossover himself???
This I don't know. Was Truth even over? Are they panicking over not having Supergirl?
New creative team later?
They usually wait so close to the date. Like a couple weeks before solicits drop, maybe.
So I will be content if it's Spencer writing the Bolts because he clearly loves them
>Which is going to finally reintroduce Supergirl
At least they're bringing her back into the picture even if it is in a filler crossover
I think all the new costumes/status quos are ending by their respective #50s except Hal
Man, I know that feeling. "Is this dead? Dormant??"
so the earliest we could get new blood on GL would be #53
Venditti did say that 50 would direct the next year of GL and he is writing that, so... we're probably still stuck with him
That Hyperion book might be weirder than it looked to be
>The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. take on the New Avengers!
also Sheriff getting 12 issues, dang. I bet they are expecting good trade sales.
Apparently Gotham Academy is also safe due to trades
>At least the Vertigo books aren't dropping like ANAD.
well, to be fair they didn't have variants or an overhyped launch and weren't attached to an event
I imagine like Image books and stuff the Vertigo books probably have better sales retention since people don't pick them up for collection or continuity purposes, they pick them up because they look good
It is, but I'm all happy to be surprised by a weird angle on a book, you know?
I've seen a lot of 'meh' about this round of Vertigo books, including some "Karen Berger would have done better" nostalgie
>I've seen a lot of 'meh' about this round of Vertigo books, including some "Karen Berger would have done better" nostalgie
I've also seen some "if these were worth their salt they'd be Image books instead" and people just writing them off like that
I don't know that any of them are INSTANT VERTIGO CLASSICS!!! but for the most part they are pretty solid books
new sexual harassment champion!
I'm still a bit head-shaking about how short All-New X-Factor was, because PAD books may stabilize low, but they're stable.
Not meant as a comment on their quality, I've just noticed some reception being phrased like that.
People really don't understand how different Image works to publish, do they
Uh. Wait. Is this some kind of hugbox site or what?
>It is, but I'm all happy to be surprised by a weird angle on a book, you know?
Wendig has only written one thing that I read, and it was the absolutely terrible Star Wars novel "Aftermath" that came out last year.
Then Wendig attacked anyone criticizing the novel for any reason claiming that they were just homophobes because it had a gay protagonist. He had some FASCINATING twitter rage wars going.
The man gives me very bad vibes.
It's just nice to see books that drop 2k between #1 and #2 as opposed to 20k or 200k.
>"Karen Berger would have done better" nostalgie
Seen that too.
I don't think people are gonna be very happy or impressed should any of the books end up as a tv show or movie. I know news of Unfollow possibly getting picked up by ABC caused some mumbling.
>People really don't understand how different Image works to publish, do they
Judging by the sheer number of people I have seen wondering "Why would you ever publish at Vertigo instead of Image????" apparently not
>"Why would you ever publish at Vertigo instead of Image????"
because you like to be paid more regularly instead of fronting a lot of expenses, I know, right?
Yeah I don't think those people get how much safer it is to just go to Vertigo.
Some of the new books have writers that haven't even been writing comics long, so they'd lose a lot trying to get published at Image, even with the same book.
And it seems DC has gotten a lot of new talent from Vertigo over the past couple years. King and Amy Chu being a couple.
Descender is worth a read?
Right, go to Image with nothing under your belt, and sell maybe a thousand copies with all your own money sunk in it
>mfw they took the Zemo cover shot out of the recap page
Always be afraid of a vengeful Giffen
I wouldn't stand in front of Fixer like that
Shenanigans are guaranteed.
I love wind-swept hair in comics. Shit doesn't do that IRL, but who cares, it looks cool.
look at that fucking eyebrow game
How are you owls today? I got the asparagus patch almost done. Never-a-fucking-gain.
He loves it, you can tell
I hope he's in the Citizen V costume again, because pulling that keikaku off repeatedly is wonderful. On anyone else it would be annoying.
I have a fondness for box wine I'm not ashamed to admit
>Decent. Never agree to troubleshoot computers for your parents. This bears repeating.
My grandparents always think that just because I USE a computer all the time means I somehow know how to fix it
I mean, I drive a car all the time too but it doesn't make me a mechanic
That would be such top-notch trolling it couldn't possibly happen
Hah, I do that enough to know better
I just wanted to be helpful, Dave.
Yeah, it's one of those THINGS.
Hey cool, the Marvel UK stuff is pretty good once they get to the Avalon stuff. the early stuff is hilariously bad.
>That would be such top-notch trolling it couldn't possibly happen
We'd need Steve to vanish for a while, and then a new Captain America to show up. He never removes his mask, but we can see the blonde hair and blue eyes peeking out from under it, and the original Kite Shield.
Then Zemo pulls a Dio.
>I just wanted to be helpful, Dave.
And that was your first mistake. Never help anyone, since it only results in the situation becoming worse, and you personally getting the shaft.
My mom put me through my CS degree, I can't say no. She lives down the hill from the cable company, though, and she realized ON HER OWN she can just drive 5 minutes and get them to provision her modem in person. 10/10 parent.
Exactly! It's so audacious and if done with style it's somehow not annoying like other reheated plots are.
So right now: Karla's Scary Team Mom, Zemo's Team Dad, Fixer's Pervert Uncle, Mach-2 is Responsible Older Brother...
I can never keep track
>the natural face of a Zemo encountering a Bucky
So this leaves the Death's Head II teaser pic, and I'll eat a hat if that's not a Si Spurrier gig.
The page with the Beyondry was simple perfection
"Bendis will still be on GOTG"
So maybe someone will ignore that Sable is dead and just retcon punch her back into a good comic now
That was gold. And yeah the original was stupid.
I hate how Marvel are super lazy with defininig what the difference is between the new MU and the old one, too.
Breevort's going to pry 616 out of our cold dead hands
I know. The headaches might finally stop. But other hobbies are expensive, and I ain't made of money.
>Stupid bullshit is a good thing.
Spare me. I don't particularly feel like having this inane argument where you defend silly comic book antics while I have to endure the pain of my head bleeding from the industrial grade stupid leaking out of your fat mouth.
>Spare me. I don't particularly feel like having this inane argument where you defend silly comic book antics while I have to endure the pain of my head bleeding from the industrial grade stupid leaking out of your fat mouth.
You COULD just leave
I mean, I know we've been over this before, but... you could leave
Having two Caps IS different! Excelsior!
Cranky? You wanna put on a trip so the rest of us can filter you? No one's making you stay here if all you wanna do is bitch.
I don't think he's been spotted since he got fixed by Toxie Doxie, lemme check the db
I must have stopped paying attention to new Big 2 stuff for a while, when did $5.99 singles become a thing? I saw them in the April solicits
Paying that for 20 pages including ads is a joke
Avengers World (2014) #15
Avengers World (2014) #16
Wolverines (2015) #13
I bet these are mostly like one-panel things, sadly
The Carol fandom is gearing up for outrage already
it's gonna be gud
>Cranky? You wanna put on a trip so the rest of us can filter you? No one's making you stay here if all you wanna do is bitch.
My lack of anything better to do is making me stay here.
You could stop being a fucking pussy. But that's not gonna happen either.
oh, okay, good
that Al Roker joke, hee
>captcha gives me a picture of 'Owl Rd'
>but no Bucky.
I wouldn't be surprised if he actually does die in CWII
They put out a shitload of 4.99 and above books
if they add two extra pages to something they'll bump it up to 4.99
>You could stop being a fucking pussy. But that's not gonna happen either.
Hey, you're the one that can't understand why people like things you don't like and you throw fucking fits about it, don't tell me to man up you whiny piece of shit
>Hey, you're the one that can't understand why people like things you don't like
Because they refuse to explain when asked. It's fucking baffling. There would be no issue if people around here had the ability to articulate their goddamned emotions.
I want Bucky to fake die again so bad now. Why would Carol kill him tho
People are talking about Dickbats which has me interested. I didn't realize we were hitting the 3rd Grayson trade
Every single time someone explains you brush them off. When it's enough people doing it and getting the same result, it's not them, it's you.
Oh my lord.
So Spencer is writing both Steve: Cap and Sam: Cap books, and we are now officially in FULL-ON UNDO REMENDER'S RUN mode.
I mean just fucking look.
>Steve is faced with a resurgent threat from his past: Hydra is back, and stronger than ever."
Spencer just tweeted to not miss that Bolts teaser
damn, that'd be what, four books?
We knew this was coming! Leaders past and present...
Zemo was in full-on "fuck with Cap as brutally as possible" mode in the one volume of Remender FalCap, so who knows what happened from there.
he's in zero fucks given mode
The Fix! I believe in it. It will happen.
This is great. "I need someone to argue with." Karla's really incomplete on her own, that's a key to making her work as a character.
It just shifted suddenly, it's unnerving.
"I don't know and I don't care."
Let me anti-rec Green Arrow/Black Canary. It's a miserable slog of a book despite some really good art.
I just realized that both this run of Thunderbolts, and the last one (pre-Red Hulk, but you know that counts as much as Fightbolts) both sort of ended after putzing around with two teams on different worlds/time periods for way too long.
Hitting a nerve!
I really enjoy scenes where characters tear emotional strips off each other. End of Tchaikovsky's Yevgeny Onegin, best operatic example.
seriously it's a waste of Cliff Chiang
There's a few funny bits but it's mostly misery, it ends badly, and it puts characters on the boat for no good reason/way
is Stuart Immonen still tied up on SW?
Okay, that's how you get through to him--speak German.
guilt trip whammy!
>tfw no Daredevil facing the wrong way
I don't like that he looks crazy and not just a prick but that joke with the beer is maybe the best part of the trailer and def the best joke. Enchantress looks REALLY cool too
overall tho that movie looks so damn goofy
Millar pays really well, I hear. And good rights.
You've got 50/50 odds of it turning into a movie and rolling in sweet hollywood $$$.
>Imagine you're married to the worst bad guy from your favorite sci-fi movie. An alien dictator feared throughout the universe, who will kill you if you leave -- but you need to escape for the sake of your three children. All you have are your wits, your bodyguard, and three guns. Welcome to EMPRESS, your new favorite comic.
This is the thing.
I keep meaning to go to my local because they brew their own, and this is the kind of movie that 4 beers would enhance
so Jolt stays. We'll miss you, Hallie.
Yeah, well-written creator owned rights are the tits for comics creators. Millar is an easy meal ticket.
Honestly I'm just happy he's through the phase where he only wrote stupid shocker schlock to sell copies.
There's actually a lot more Bolts to come until it hits Ellis time, but that'll be another time.
btw I'm going out of town soon but I'll try to keep schedule
>so Jolt stays. We'll miss you, Hallie.
Speaking of which, the new Thunderbolts series will apparently feature a new daughteru. We know anything about her?
Seriously, this happens often enough in T-Bolts to be an official thing.
Has a good character core and is generally just feel good.
For a Fantastic Four riff...could have used more interplay, but overall decent.
Chrononauts just shocked me with out NOTHING it was.
Stereo bosses--more like each other than they'd admit
Watkins kinda mad
He kinda got reason to be, to be fair, even if it was all Techno's fault
Honestly, if Millar wrote comics that ran as either actual on goings or for more than just five issues I think he'd have some good shit coming out.
But he insists on turning pretty much all his recent comics into movie pitches, and they really suffer quality wise. I think the last one I really enjoyed was Starlight.
>either actual on goings or for more than just five issues I think he'd have some good shit coming out.
well, as we learned last night, apparently working on long form stuff in the current market fucking sucks
I don't know, you definitely have more of a set plan with Jupiter's Saga, which he plans to run for 34 issues in total.
Definitely agreed though.
Starlight hit that old pulpy core perfectly...when length wasn't an issue.
oh yeah, we did skip that second mini that presumably explains shit with them
Fixer, don't stick your dick in crazy and probably homocidal
look on the bright side: all the hipsters are probably underwater too
>Storyteller's a bit of a sadist.
Y-yeah, she really is. I m-mean surely nobody PUT HER UP TO THAT! That would just be c-crazy wouldn't it!
I didn't actually read it yet.
B A S E D
Yeah, Starlight was good but it needed at least two more issues just to round things out. I felt like Duke just jumped back into action too quick, we needed an issue of him relearning how to be an intergalactic hero. And we needed more about the Resistance and the Kingfisher's too. It all just wrapped up too quickly and cleanly.
And yeah, Jupiter's Legacy was actually pretty enjoyable, it's just a matter of him ever actually finishing it. The fact that we're on Jupiter's Circle part 2 but we haven't heard jack about the main series is hilarious. Although I guess part of that is Quietely, his art may be beautiful but it clearly has a price.
Oh, I think we had this chat before.
I remember someone mentioning they thought that it needed 2 more issues.
I can see how that might have helped, but I don't see it that way.
I liked how it gets right into the nit and gritty. If anything, at least one. Maybe to show him training some more. But that would be it.
As for how it wrapped up? Pitch perfect to me.
We have heard about the main series. We got a preview back in November or so.
Coming back this Spring.
Layman, Seeley, Marz, and some others were tweeting about how depressing it is to do a long ongoing where sales keep falling regardless of quality and the press stop paying attention because it's not new.
>I'm shocked that his Youngblood has fans.
What. Bullshit, that doesn't have fans. Right?
>Y-yeah, she really is. I m-mean surely nobody PUT HER UP TO THAT! That would just be c-crazy wouldn't it!
.... Comrade. Is there something you like to say? Because I still have nightmares about that hot tub scene.
What he really wants is a percentage, we know this.
Yep. Still don't have Storm Queen of Valkir.
Man-Killer shows up in Fightbolts with no trace of anything ever having happened with her. I still don't get that relaunch. I bet Bill Jemas or Quesada did it.
Layman (Chew) and some other creators lamented how terrible doing long form comics is.
All the variants, relaunches, events, crossovers, etc really bleed retailers dry and they often have to cut back on other titles.
So things like Chew start losing units/sales each month.
>I remember someone mentioning they thought that it needed 2 more issues.
Yeah, that sounds like it was me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, and the ending was great, I just wanted more.
Busiek noted the problems too, with writing long form and getting the "This is as good as ever!" and nothing more in the reviews/not getting noticed anymore.
Including Fightbolts and Dark Avengers, and not even including the essential minis, we got 190 issues of Thunderbolts. Fuck, guys, what today will rack up those numbers that's not Spidey/Avengers/Batman?
When Liefeld did his Q&A on the forum there was a few people who asked about when he and Millar would finish the mini.
And a few times since then.
>Yep. Still don't have Storm Queen of Valkir.
Did you hear about the Sequel?
Well, you hear about the sequel then?
>.... Comrade. Is there something you like to say? Because I still have nightmares about that hot tub scene.
I may or may not have been feeding storyteller SoP suggestions with lurid descriptions of what happens in them. I may or may not have told her about Youngblood. I cannot confirm or deny.
>@bradmeltzer thank you so much sir. You don't know what that means to me. You were an inspiration for me getting into this business.
Well that's Meltzer's existence on this earth justified, I guess.
talking ass shot!
when I'm not abstaining from hooch, guys. I ain't doing that sober.
I will run Dark Avengers for you, though.
Well, we finished the scripts last summer along with American Jesus: The New Messiah.
We should hear more in the spring.
Millar likes to announce stuff in groups.
I am also scouring for 4 dollar Crossing omnis to raffle off this year
so Fixer is blowing up chemical weapons depots for the lulz?
That's just hateful, Dave :D
>It was the BEST SoP.
..... Dave. Pls.
I honestly still don't quite understand what the was going on. The Crossing was so bad that it was retconned as some Kang/Immortus trolling the everlasting shit out of everyone.
That's right, Clint. Go and leave Zemo and Karla to their own devices. Nothing can go wrong, now!
It's because you're too smart to trust him, Dallas
...so what if Karla met Vril, but she brought Helmut WITH her?
And Abe's look will vary from artist to artist from here on out!
Shit's still going down! Would I leave you with a cliffhanger?
Thanks for reading, owls. Tomorrow it's time for THREEBOOT!
I think its more of a dig how he became kind of swarthy in Superior Foes after being pale in New Thunderbolts. Shocker got unusually tan in Superior Foes, but you barely see him out of his suit anyways.
I think that's honestly just the art in Surperior foes, there's a certain kind of saturation to it that makes people look a bit odd. Everybody's quite pink looking.
Also, Superior Foes Shocker looked really Italian/possibly Russian mobster to me for some reason, maybe that's just the hair though.
As best I can tell, Threeboot is 36 issues, and then the chronology also includes some Omega Men etc. So not a super-long diversion, we can also maybe switch it up on weekends.
Yeah, I kind of though Shocker looked like an older Italian guy there too. Technically, coloring choices aside, it was Speed Demon who had one of the more jarring civilian redesigns, since he seemed to de-age 20 years in Superior Foes.
But regarding Abe's appearance, I'm now sort of curious if there's any pictures of him outside of the Beetle armor pre-Thunderbolts. Though like Shocker, I assume it would just be of a generic looking guy.
Yeah, I need to get back to that and fill things in
we'll read it and Avengers/Thunderbolts --> New Thunderbolts
We'll all see!
>tfw the Thunderbolts has been MIA for a long time now
>And then there is that awful awful thing that they did to Fixer
I can't even address how awful it was what they did to Fixer
