>>79100242 Nope, Kaz has even confirmed that the fucking merch is taking up all his time, so until it's over there's gonna be nothing (that was last thread at least, but it coulda been fake kaz so who knows). But it's OK guys! Cider is still working on it!
>>79104274 Nope, that wasn't the longest between two updates. The time between 'Katia: Acquire follower' (27 Nov 2014) and 'Katia: Continue to store' (27 Jan 2015) was, excluding the end date, 61 days. The time between now and the most recent update, excluding today, has been 79 days.
However, that's still not the longest time between two. Currently, that's tied between the wait for 'Aggy: Extrapolate' (04 Mar 2014) and the last update on Halloween, which are both tied at an astonishing 93-day drought. If Kaz doesn't want to tie his record a second time, or even break it, then he only has until the 1st of February for the former and the 31st of January for the latter.
>>79104560 Man, I almost want Kaz to fucking just abandon prequel. Maybe pick it up some other time when he actually has the time and the drive to legitimately work on it. It would be a lot better than this awful stretched out torture that happens now with quarterly updates. I can't even enjoy the comic anymore because the immersion is just fucking gone
>>79104714 The hiatuses have nothing to do with Kaz's drive. He just gets too into doing new shit and polishing the writing. At the very least the money from the merch means he'll work on it full-time after he sends all those boxes.
>>79107108 >He said he's only getting like 3000 dollars That doesn't sound right at all, he said he could live with the profits from the campaign for about a year. Also, he lives with his family so he doesn't pay rent.
Then again I'm a 3rd world poorfag with no concept of US cost of life so what do I know.
>>79107633 >which means we'll get even fewer updates. What fun! "regularly" meaning once a year or so. It's not going to take Kaz more than a month to ship all the shit out, then let's assume another month of only working on the next campaign and nothing else. That still leaves 10 months of him doing actual comic content with no other jobs to get in the way. How the hell does that equate to fewer updates?
>>79107108 >He said he's only getting like 3000 dollars (that exact number is probably not correct, but it was small) which might be enough money for 3 months at most depending on where you live.
That would be a pretty bad return! For the record, I'm making about $15,000 before taxes. That might get unexpectedly kicked down to $13,000 though, because they just raised shipping prices on the 17th. Like, literally as much as 50% to some destinations.
>>79108267 >Don't forget about Precede, that was kinda neat
God, you fuckers better not forget about Precede and Dodger. Those were still the two largest updates I've done, even if they were prequels. Precede doubled the in-story length of the comic.
>>79110207 I didn't mean it in a bad way! I prefer to think of Precede as really big rather than the comic as really slow.
>>79109553 >I really wish that, instead of focusing on stupid flash gimmicks and cheap jokes using copyrighted characters, Kazerad would focus on improving his anatomy and other art fundamentals. >Yeah, Prequel and other things like this are a hobby, but he calls himself an artist, so he should develop his skills.
Honestly, at this point I'm not so concerned about making my art good as I am with making it easy to imitate. Whenever you have a job that can only be done by one person, you risk bottlenecking - I've learned as much the hard way. If anything, tart fundamentals someone in my position really needs to focus on are the things that a whole team can go on to use: color choices, character design, environment planning, etc.
Even then, I try not to call myself an artist because it's really not my favorite part of making things. Eventually on future projects I hope to transition to having other people handle the art while I just write text and design documents. I won't feel like I've lost some crucial part of my identity for moving away from it.
>>79110925 Kaz, it seems you approach the comic like you're designing a game. Batch assets, large amounts of content in periodic updates, and simple sprite-based designs. Do you think Prequel would have worked as a lone, independent game released all at once?
That's a bit narrow minded. Taking into account that you yourself said this comic is your personal experiment, don't you think learning and improving would only lead you to be faster, more efficient and contribute to your ability to create new forms and directions to take your comic, and your overall work? Or make it easier for your minions to gut and decipher it? It's not about complexity necessarily.
When is the last time a user comment had a real impact on the comic? Between the sparse updates and the emphasis on flash, it feels like it's not even a thing anymore. The Dodger comic went back to using fake comments and suggestions as if the comic itself still did that.
Has anybody here even had their comment get used in the comic? Under ideal circumstances, would you need to post within hours of the update happening to even have a chance? How does it work when there are literal months between updates?
If Kaz gets back into form, I wonder if the comment thing will be tweaked or brought back better. I've been following Prequel for years but I honestly never felt like I had any impact on the direction of the comic at all. Maybe I was never supposed to. It's Kaz's show, after all.

It is an experiment! One of the things I uncovered was simply that I don't like drawing all that much.
One of the reasons I started Prequel was actually so I could get better at drawing backgrounds. Then, after drawing the panel in the attached image, a friend pointed out to me that I was mostly writing and doing basically no backgrounds. These days, my backgrounds are much better because I get a person who liked the writing to draw them for me. It didn't really go as planned, but I'm happy with the outcome. I like writing.
I'm not against learning about drawing, but I'm slowly coming to accept that it's more efficient to leave it up to other people who are more specialized in it. And I'm not really sad about that, I guess.
>>79111326 >Do you think Prequel would have worked as a lone, independent game released all at once?
I don't think Prequel would work well as an all-at-once release. I mean, the user commands do play a role, even if it's not terribly obvious, and working from them is fun.
I do like game design though. Like, planning big things that release all at once and can be played a bunch of different ways. Precede was a lot of fun to make, and I really enjoy nonlinear writing like in Extrapolate. I should probably work to sideline those desires when working on a comic where people just want a damn update, though.
>>79112081 No, it stands for KARAZAD PALEWING, the BEST FURSONA.
>>79110925 It's something interesting, but it did nothing for the plot aside from enforce what we already knew and maybe introduce a certain fiery dragon. We haven't progressed for almost half a year outside of stepping outside of the shop.
>>79112815 >One of the things I uncovered was simply that I don't like drawing all that much This is the part where Kaz recruits FilthyP to do his drawing.
In all seriousness though, this makes me pretty sad. I picked up drawing again because 'all these cool people are making cool comics, I should make one too' but now it feels like the cool kid has left the party and I'm just sitting here dancing because I can't decide if I should leave too but I'm too suborn to leave or that staying is the right thing and he sucked for leaving. That's a lot of secondguessing myself. I blame you Kaz.
>>79111887 A "recent" example: After the Impboss fight, Kaz had planned this whole dumb puzzle to get out of the room after being locked inside. Many suggestions pointed out she could just call the shopkeeper and bypass the whole thing, a solution that Kaz hadn't thought of.
>>79112815 >I should probably work to sideline those desires when working on a comic where people just want a damn update, though. Find a balance, Kaz. I love your big projects but I think you need a buffer between them.
Maybe Precede/Dodger could have been a little after Infiltrate
>>79115145 >series end with Katia in her jail cell >the Dark Elf makes his speech about the guards that are coming >the Emperor and his guards enter... and walk to the stall next to hers >Mythic Dawn slaughter everyone >she was never special, she was just what came before the real story
>>79110925 >>79112815 Does that mean we're going to get less and less panels drawn by you and more and more drawn by Cider and other helpers? pls no, I like your art the best in the comic, the others' just don't feel as right
>>79129447 Not to proud myself, she needed that money for more on-the-spot useful things, like next time she needs a scroll for an imp or whatever I'm assuming that she won't steal from Sigrid's goldpile, too. Which is plausible, since she isn't all that khajiity
The next morning, Quil wakes up, naked as the day she was born, in the center of a smoking crater. Katia, half-conscious and dressed as a clown, has been draped across her in a suggestive position, and in her mouth is a note that reads "WE OWE U 1 HOUSE".
