What surprises me is that although the intro was edited to alter Stan's symbol on the fez, the crescent symbol on the intro wheel wasn't changed. I actually had a short fanfic in mind with a kind of similar principle:

>Mabel being happy
>Sees Dipper getting sad and frustrated
>Asks him what's going on
>Dipper admits he's mad because he can't work out who the Author is.
>Mabel tells him not to worry about it
>Dipper gets angry, because he feels that if he can't work it out, then he's good for nothing, before apologising
>Mabel is confused and asks him why he apologises for everything
>Dipper has a minor breakdown confesses the extent of his social anxiety, his jealousy of Mabel's social life, and his fears of living and dying alone without friends, and that his academic results are the only thing that make him feel that he has anything in life, which is why he always apologises
>Mabel is horrified and starts hating herself for not knowing the extent of her brother's issues
>Dipper attempts to apologise for making her feel bad, before she cuts him off, trying to get him to stop beating himself up
>Mabel tells him that he's the best brother in the world, how much she loves him, as well as Stan, Wendy, Soos, etc, and about WHY they love him.

I've never been a fanfic writer, but I have seen the episodes to know good pacing, good plot buildup, and all that. So I might start with a "script" for the storyboard thing, and I'm thinking about picking the "Mabel's Cursed Scrapbook" (my idea from some time ago) plot first.

Because it makes more sense given how anxious he is, but most importantly, it's so that he can grow as a character by the end of it. All my fanfics have Dipper got through a moment of emotional trauma (his crush having set him up to get hazed and humiliated on prom-day, his realising that he has to leave behind the people who love him, etc), but they all end up with him overcoming it and growing as a person. It's his privilege to become stronger by the end.
