Why is Captain America on the cover?
>>
>>78891324
Why wouldn't he?
>>
>>78891332
Because Stan didn't make him?
>>
>>78891324
because stan lee IS Mr Marvel
>>
>>78891366
his involvement in the creation of Thor and Iron Man is also somewhat tangential
>>
>>78891366
>muhh Kirby
>muhh Ditko
Keep crying, bitch.
>>
>>78891386
Stan Lee is Billy Bateson?
>>
Why is spider-man on the cover?
>>
>>78891366
Yes he did. He created these characters and then told his artists to draw them. Stop being retarded.
>>
>>78891406
Whats Ditko got to do with it? It was created in 1941 by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby
Lee didn't write anything for the character until issue 3, a filler text story - which did introduce the shield being thrown and returning.
>>
>>78891406
Hi, The Sheeple! Still a lolbertarian?
>>
>>78891428
no he didn't create captain america there is not even any argument for him creating captain america

not even stan lee will claim to have created captain america
>>
>>78891425
He wrote an outline describing the character and then comissioned Kirby to come up with a character
He rejected Kirbys design and then asked Ditko
Ditko produced Spiderman and did the art for the story that Lee did write, Kirby did the cover
It seems though that Lees scripts consisted of rough outlines or guides for the writers and he would then go over them adding dialogue and thes and thous and for souths
>>
>>78891471
Didn't he do it in a book?
And why did he have a cameo in Captain America but not Joe Simon? He only passed away in 2011
>>
>>78891471
>not even stan lee will claim to have created captain america
>captain america is prominently displayed on a cover about how Stan Lee created everything
>>
Where the fuck is the Fantastic 4?
Marvels blackban on them extends even to Lees autobiography it seems
>>
>>78891554
>Where the fuck is the Fantastic 4?
Ben, Reed, and Norrin are all on the cover, anon. Stop actively trying to be butthurt.
>>
>two Spideys
its like they're pissing on Ditko
>>
>>78891540
>and the usual shills will say it's true
>>
>>78891519
because he has a cameo in every marvel film, he has a cameo in guardians of the galaxy which he also has no claim to whatsoever

>>78891554
???

do you have eyes? there are three fantastic 4 characters on the cover at least

Let's face it: Lee minus Kirby equals zero.
>>

this is such an obnoxious photo hes literally posing with some of ditko's art

it doesnt even have his fucking word balloons there

>>78891627

>>
>>78891627
He also co-created Ronan, the Kree, and The Collector.
>>
it's not like any of you actually care. you like like feeling angry.
>>
>>78891727
>boo hoo hoo they attacking my god
Do you do this for free or for a fee?
>>
>>78891685
Well, Stan can't draw and Ditko is a shut in who doesn't pose for pictures or do anything publicly. I get that it's cool to hate on Stan because he's the only one who will publicly talk about it or is still alive but he does give Kirby and Ditko credit for co-creation and plotting, they (especially Kirby) just demanded 100% credit, hell Kirby even claimed to have single handedly created Spider-Man
>>
>>78891788
>Kirby even claimed to have single handedly created Spider-Man
Well, Spider-Man was based on a aborted Simon & Kirby project for Archie, my Sheeple.
>>
>>78891788
No he does not give them co-credit.
He says "if Ditko wants to believe he co-created Spider Man thats fine by me"
He is always careful to talk about these things with a lawyer present
>>
>>78891804
Not exactly, Kirby recycled the design from that for Lees outline - and it was rejected
>>
>>78891788
they do deserve 100% credit in most cases, i would say stan lee deserves some credit for his writing in amazing fantasy 15 since the origin story is actually so core to the character but for pretty much anything else he 'created' he just did shitty word balloons
>>
>>78891366
If Stan Lee hadn't as an editor in the 1960s decided to bring Cap back, you wouldn't even know the character.

>>78891401
If by tangential you mean you don't understand that without his involvement, again, you wouldn't know these characters, yes.
>>
>>78891832
Yup, but the idea was theirs. So...
>>
>>78891832
I just looked up his design, it's pretty garbage. Spidey's design is timeless.

Apart from each artist's own take on the size of the eyes and the under-arm webs, any attempt to fuck with that suit just lessens its impact. The new glowing spider-symbol is a fucking eyesore.

>In the letter dated August 18th, 1999, Lee wrote:

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to go on record with the following statement…

I have always considered Steve Ditko to be Spider-Man’s co-creator.

When I first told Steve my idea for a shy, teenaged high-school science student who’d be bitten by a radioactive spider, thus gaining the ability to stick to walls and shoot webs, Steve took to it like a duck to water.

Steve’s illustrated version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and his coterie of supporting characters was more compelling and dramatic than I had dared hope it would be. From his very first panel, Steve created and established the perfect mood and gestalt for Spider-Man.

Also it goes without saying that Steve’s costume design was an actual masterpiece of imagination. Thanks to Steve Ditko, Spidey’s costume has become one of the world’s most recognizable visual icons.

Nor can I forget to credit Steve with the many, many brilliant plots he furnished as the strip continued to increase in popularity with each passing month. So adept was he at story-telling, that Steve eventually did most of the plotting and illustrations while I, of course, continued to provide the dialogue and captions.

I write this to ensure that Steve Ditko receives the credit to which he is so justly entitled.

Yours sincerely,

Stan Lee

I think my favorite redesign story is Todd "Grimdark Incarnate" being the one who insisted Spidey's costume should be bright, and that the black suit is a mistake.

No, but Cap was his first writing gig (the prose story "Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge" in Captain America Comics #3; this also introduced Cap's famous shield-throwing attack). So it's still important to Stan's history.

Come on. I guess they ripped off Richie Rich, too.
>an orphan adopted by an elderly couple
I was under the impression that that particular aspect came from the initial 5-page Stan Lee/Jack Kirby pages, rather than the separate Simon/Kirby project. Could be wrong, though.
>mask
Again, hardly an original concept.
>can climb walls, has superhuman agility and weave webs
Wasn't aware of the specifics of the powers in the original Simon/Kirby idea, so I'll give you that one.

That being said, so many of the important aspects completely different.
Uncle Ben's relationship with Peter, how he gets his powers, the entire "with great power" theme (which in my opinion is a more important aspect of the character than anything else).

Still, looking it up now, there's definitely more in common than I remember there being. Spider-Man seems like a melting pot of a shitload of different people's ideas.
