It's time to go... all negro!
I will be storytiming All Negro Comics. A curious comic book from 1947, supposedly written and made only by negr... I mean, Afro-Americans. It seems they intended to make it a regular monthly, but there was ever only one issue. Sadly!
Let's do this
It's no particular genre, it's just bunch of random stuff, all with black people
First, there is a crime story.
Ace Harlem - the negro detective.
Unfortunately, all criminals in this book are black people.
All right Anon, I am continuing then
The story of Ace Harlem continues
I expected to be terrible with just "it's all blacks" premise, but it's... all right.
It's just 40s comics. Just with black people.
all right all right
my pass just expired and the new recaptchas are annoying as hell
And now, an abrupt shift of tone to Dew Dillies, comics aimed at - kids, I guess
yeah, it's hilarious
The necessary written story so this qualifies as "text magazine" or something, and I ain't gonna read that
By the way, I think this is all public domain now
anyone can make new Ace Harlem or Lion Man stories
The only two white people in this comics are villains.
look it up before you do it
But I believe nobody touched these characters since then and the copyright expired
Aaaand that's it.
Next issue never came out.
And then all the civil right stuff happened.
According to internet, the creator of All Negro died in 1971, in the age 68
Negro Heroes seems to be just a comics about famous black people at the time, not about super-heroes
Yeah, I am not downloading that.
And sure, I would love to read more Ace Harlem
>WHERE YOU AT
So weird that these speech patterns are basically just like modern ones. I'm so used to '40s speech sounding weird, and '40s black speech sounding embarrassingly racist. Must be because finally black dialogue is actually being written by a black person.
I love how different the lingo from the 40s is.
That's the golden age for you. From what I've seen, around the 50s they managed to get a decent deegree of quality going... only to be killed by the CCA.
They are not white.
They are Russians.
I feel really bad about this. We call this offensive and weird today, but this was an honest attempt s tbgiving black artists a voice back in the day.
The fact that it got cancelled because white racists strangled it is disheartening.
The reason it never came out? once paper suppliers (owned by rich, white men) realized that the magazine was black owned and operated, their supplies of paper mysteriously dried up. A second issue was completely ready to go, but there was nothing to print it on.
Why didn't they just turn go to the
Well, it is made by black people, who were presumably sick of not getting to be normal in comics.
