Does anyone else think an animated adaptation of Wicked would be incredible?
Novel is pretty political and sexy.
I'm assuming op is asking about an adaptation of the musical, which would be fantastic so long as they get Chenoweth and Menzel.
It's the story told from the witche's perspective (first act is her backstory, and second is the events of The Wizard of Oz).
I guess you could call it a fanfiction, but instead of sucking, its actually really good.
I think they should use different voice actors for the first half. I took it as there being a significant time gap between Act 1 and Act 2.
It would sort of be a shame though because then Menzel wouldn't get to sing the two best songs in the musical (The Wizard and I, and Defying Gravity)
It follows her from her infancy through the entirety of her life. She's not too much of a qt though, she's repeatedly described of having an extremely sharp appearance.
And yes, she dies.
I'd read it, anon, there's some intriguing political shit and a surprising amount of sex, overall good stuff.
It's a play so there wasnt any point to make her ugly since the audience cant see her face close up. Should a movie be made, I'll be mad if she doesnt have a hooked nose and a big chin.
Broadway show adapted from novel, although the two are vastly different.
As previously stated, novel follows Elphaba from birth to death, has political intrigue, sex, drama, and a baby. There's also sequels although I haven't read them.
Wicked the musical follows Elphaba really from academy on and is more light-hearted with happy endings, but a touch of the political intrigue and racism from the books. In both Elphaba's actually kind of a good way with debatable methods.
I'm trying to remember, but in the play I think the Wicked Witch had more to do with the Oz cast too.
Like she created the Cowardly Lion or at least gave him the ability to talk?
The Tin Man was a Munchkin who fell in love with her paraplegic sister.
The Straw Man was her lover, Fiyero, whom she turned to straw when the Wizards goons were about to beat him to death.
But I don't think any of that happened in the book, or at least Wicked and Oz characters weren't connected in that way?
OP doesn't seem to be doing it so I'll dump the rest of Minkyuu Lee's tumblr postings.
I feel like explaining dorothy's companions added a lot of confusion. Like, so the tinman just never mentioned the fact that he personally knew both the witches, and was made of tin because of them. And he also met the cowardly lion.
And i can get behind Fiyero not saying anything about being Elphaba's boyfriend, but then why does she set him on fire?
I cant tell you how thoroughly ive choreographed every song to fit in a movie.
I would also love to see how they could pay homage to theater. Like how in birdman, everything was made to look like a single take, in order to capture the fluidity of stage plays.
It has a lot of potential, but I feel like if they ever made one it would probably live action based on the play. I liked the book, but I think the sexuality and the political stuff would be toned down significantly to make it more "family friendly." Can't have those bisexuals and furries in a Christian animated movie.
Despite the tumblr nose, I think these designs are better. I picture Elphaba as tall and thin, with very pointed features and straight hair. Galinda is of course more petite and curvy, with blonde ringlets.
The musical sucked green dick, they removed all the themes and substantial content. 2nd-worst musical I've ever seen.
Would not watch it in a box, would not watch it in with a fox.
Oh the musical is fantastic! It focuses mostly on the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda. It has great music and great humor, and by the end youre really emotionally invested.
