Is there any way I can enjoy an espresso at home for less than ~$75?
>>
>>9060665
No. Realistically, the cheapest setup (buying new) you could do at home is a Gaggia Classic ($380) and a LIDO-E ($180). Used gear is fine, but you really have to know what you're looking for.

>I fucking love espresso
I think you have your answer
>>
so here's my thing. I'm 27, never have liked the flavor of coffee starting with trying it at like 10 years old. I try it often, my girlfriend drinks it so I'll try a sip of hers and not particularly enjoy it. So Here I am with no coffee habit living and functioning just fine. So my question to you is, would you try to pick up the coffee habit if you were me? What I'm thinking is - I don't get tired during waking hours now, why would I go about introducing a persistent source of caffeine when I don't really need it?
>>
>>9061451
>habit
Some of us drink it because we enjoy it. Not everyone uses it as a drug.
>>
>>9061361
Home espresso isn't something you get cause you love espresso...it becomes more of a hobby.

Deep investments etc.

>>
>>9060665
Disregard all other reccomendations. Get a moka pot, under 60 bucks and while not a true "espresso" (due to pressure needed) it does produce a thicker, syrupier more concentrated cup which most espresso drinkers find comparable to real espresso. Get some quality beans like the black cat espresso blend from intelligentisa or some hair bender from stumptown and you are good to go. Best investment coffee wise I have made in a while, straight up.

DON'T START anon.
Coffee is a misleading meme.
If you don't want to get shakings and jitters from caffeine withdrawal and feeling of nervous irritation don't start anon.
Live your life the way you are living now and be happy

I many times have 2-3 weeks brakes from drinking this shit.
Even tho I buy expensive high quality freshly roasted 100%Arabica medium roasted (or lover roast) local coffee beans I'm noticing that when I have brake from it I feel much more relaxed, and more peaceful inside.
When I run out of coffee beans I don't rush to the roaster to buy more.I give a rest and I just function great with out it.

Yes drinking coffee forms an addiction, there are few reasons for it.
Especially if you are using quality aromatic beans like( Arabica are) freshly roasted and you grind it fresh just before brewing the smell of it is very pleasant very addictive, and now when you brewing this stuff the aroma in the air
adds more to the 'imprisonment' of your senses, and now comes the third stage drinking this liquid and tasting all it's aromas.

Coffee is a fucking drug that delivers caffeine into your system and it is sometimes helpful in keeping you awake and "energetic" but if you start drinking more than a cup/day you will develop fucking addiction to it.
The trick is to be in control of the intake of it, but I (same as you mentioned), I don't feel that I'm falling apart when I'm not getting doze of caffeine in my body.
That fucking thing (the coffee the caffeine) disturbs smooth sleeping cycle, you will go to sleep of course but I noticed that my sleep is not as smooth and relaxing during the days when I drink coffee,
but during the days (weeks) when I don't drink coffee my sleep and feeling of rest in the morning is much better much more pleasant much more relaxed and I feel good during the day as well.
It takes 2-3 days for the caffeine effects to 'leave' my system (the withdrawal effect) after I stop drinking it.
DON'T START!

Seiko is one of the more iconic Patek Philippe mdoels, now discontinued
you're unlikely to find it at all, much less at a reasonable price

What was the full context of that? Were they talking about pulling espresso professionally? In that context it makes complete sense to say you can't get similar results. Making coffee at home with that kind of gear makes less sense because there are too many other variables that you won't be able to eliminate anyway, but that hasn't stopped me from being autistic enough to spend way too much on a nice grinder.

Biggest difference is the V60 has a giant hole, so it is far more affected by your pouring Comparing taste, the V60 is definitely a bit brighter and cleaner because it doesn't have that extra contact time from being held up in the brewer
>>
>>9063520
Wow, I typed way more than that and the middle bit got deleted, I guess. But you get the jist, right?

Little hole = can only flow out at a certain rate so there is more contact time, not as affected by pouring rate/technique

Big hole = Much more dependent on your pour/technique

Like to correct something about the picture and three (3) pedos in it,
it might be only two (2) pedos and the 3. is a foot of that young boy who's face is on the coffee mug.
That foot is quite small it maybe too small to be a foot of an adult.

Anything with a vibration pump is still garbage. It has to have an absurd amount of resistance to build up anything close to 9 bar. Saeco and a couple of the others have a tiny pin hole in the portafilter to give it that resistance so you could put folgers in there and still have it take 17 seconds.

Great question! I'm so glad someone asked. I also wondered if other anon's bought coffee beans online. A lot of connoisseurs were recommending HappyMug.com

I was skeptical at first. The prices were so low compared to more established places, but then I did more research. It soon became evident that with their direct-to-consumer model, with word of mouth advertising and no fancy "web 3.0 web design" (who needs that? LMAO!) they were able to keep costs down and pass the savings to you, the consumer! I mean us, the consumers! I am definitely just a satisfied customer!

Anyway I tried a bag of their Costa Rica Honey Process which sounded great and tasted even greater. I was hooked!

My dad got me a fancy french press for college, but says that if I'd prefer another system for college that he'd return it. It's kinda small and some fancy Italian brand. I don't drink a lot of coffee so it's okay if it's small.

Is french press tasty? I typically prefer espresso.
>>
>>9060665
You can get an espresso kettle and do it the old fashion way on your stove top. It's not a complex tool at all so it should be too expensive. Plus they last forever.
>>
>>9067153
I feel the same. I really enjoy coffee and drink around 2 cups a day. In July I'm starting a new job and right now I'm having tons of free time. The strange habit I formed is that whenever I'm drinking coffee I feel more productive since I'm used to drinking it at work. So when I'm stuck at some task instead of just tackling it I get a coffee first and feel better already.

There's a reason the doc will tell you to avoid coffee at any kind of disease whatsoever.

Stomach pain ? Avoid coffee.
Headaches ? Avoid coffee.
Virtually everything else ? Avoid coffee.

My point wasn't that "coffee gives you those" it's that if you, during your life, suffer from those (which you will), reducing your coffee intake will help immensely.

Works perfect. Wide enough for a 34oz press or large Clever dripper, never had to calibrate it (I just check it with a nickel every once in a while), never had problems with a bit of spillage, and going on 2 years with the original battery

Back in the days of being a street pharmacist, we all had AWS scales and they literally never failed from being banged around in cars, backpacks, or whatever

I went to a bakery-type mexican food place and they had a whole espresso setup and I asked for a red-eye off their menu and they were totally confused as to how to use the machines almost as if nobody had ever asked for coffee before.
It was surreal, the register girl would ask me to hold on, then go to the back, then attempted to read some LOOONG hand-written instructions off a napkin kept under the counter, then started pouring ice even though I asked for hot espresso, then she started trying to get some other employee who was 2s away from ending her shift to do it, it was just 3 minutes of this shit, I just walked away.

Should I get a gooseneck kettle?
Can I just get away with pouring water really slowly?
>>
>>9082706
>https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OS5MTCA/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile

You're not going to get anything particularly amazing in that price range. But if you don't have $1000 to spend then go for it. You also need a grinder that won't bottleneck your espresso machine. Good grinders are pricey.
>>
>>9082749
OP says he uses the kettle shown in his image, so I guess so.
Is there any difference between the plastic and ceramic ones?
>>
>>9082779
The plastic one looks really cheap and feels really cheap, it matches the price, but it's also lightweight and impossible to break.
The porcelain one feels much more heavy and substantial, it'll shatter if you drop it though.
>>
>>9082792
But there is no difference in shape or how the coffee turns out?
>>
>>9082808
I haven't tried the plastic one yet.
I've already had like 6 coffees today, I'll update again in the next thread.

I gotta play around with grinds next because the water flows out far too fast with my usual grind.

It is easier, but it's not necessary. I don't know what kind you have, but if you can control it and pour a small stream, you're fine. Like I said, just practice first. It will likely be easiest to pour slowly if you leave just what you need in there. I fill mine with one liter, use half to warm my mug and cone, leaving the remaining 500ml for my 400ml pour

Watch YouTube videos of people with goosenecks. If you can pour a stream just like that, then why would you need one? Knowmsayin?
>>
>>9082880
I guess I should add that I'm not saying "don't get one, they're a meme!". I just don't want to people to buy unnecessary shit right off the bat if they're just starting out (not sure if you are or not). Spending hundreds of dollars on a hobby just to see it all collecting dust 3 months later sucks. If you really want one or feel that you do need it, go for it.
>>
>>9082765
Yeah wasn't expecting amazing, but at least decent. Didn't look into grinders yet but I wasn't expecting to get away with cheaping out on it

I solved all my struggles with coffee making devices very easily,I switched to high quality 100%Arabica instant espresso coffee.
Now I have plenty of time to do better things than to fuck around with that nonsense.
I drink coffee couple of hours later I go and piss coffee out, no need to over complicate this with complex devices.
