hey guys. i'm a /b/tard but i'm trying to learn how to cook and my friend told me i should learn how to make carbonara because it's easy but will impress stupid people, but ive never even heard of prosciuto or pecorino, can you help?
pic probably related, first result when i googled carbonara
from what I know its spaghetti and some kind of mayonnaise sauce.
boil some spaghetti, microwave some bacon, buy some grated parmesan cheese and mayo and put it on the bacon and spaghetti

Prosciuto is air cured ham, but is not an ingredient in carbonara. Pecorino is a hard cheese made from sheep milk

>prosciutto
Essentially Italian bacon. It's probably not what you're looking for. Get the thickest cut bacon you can find and chop that into cubes and use instead. Guiancale or pancetta if you're gunning to be traditional.
>pecorino
Is like parmesan, a salty, flaky Italian cheese. Don't buy pregrated as it will be shit.

Seriouseats are pretty concise when it comes to this sort of thing.
Serve with some form of crisp/bitter salad for extra impression points.

Not that it won't taste good with bacon, but the smokey flavor can be really overpowering. Definitely try to get some pancetta if you can.
