Soup /ck/,
Just moved in to a studio apartment. I'll be living on my own for the first time in my life and was trying to think of some simple, low maintenance meals I can cook up at home.
I've got rice, beans, and eggs at the moment (literally just moved yesterday).
What are some other essentials that I'm missing?
Any particular spices you would recommend?

Cook the rice, beans, and eggs, mix in a bowl, season with salt and pepper

Any suggestions as to some other food I could pick up and cook with?

No

cumin, coriander, salt, pepper, oregano, cinnamon

tabasco or whatever hot sauce you like

onion, cheese, butter or oil

you can make a bunch of different foods with these. saute chopped onion in oil or butter until browned, put spices in hot oil for a minute or so, add beans and water or stock and simmer until they're soft. learn how to make a good omelette. you should pretty much just learn how to make food you've eaten, then move onto more unfamiliar things if you feel like it.

get a cutting board and a glass baking dish

pasta. 2 cans of 28 oz whole peeled tomatoes. Season with salt, black pepper, and italian herbs (dried if you have them at the beginning, fresh at the end of cooking)
Add some liquor (vodka, red wine)
Some dairy if you want it
Add raw pasta and 2 cups of water.
Cook until al dente.
Finish with parmesan and butter/olive oil.
Should make lots of nice leftovers.

Ramen doesn't contain enough iodine your body needs. Always season the water before boil with iodinised salt.

Other basic staples & regulars:
Onion, carrot, celery, pepper, potatoes
Salt, pepper, canola oil
Dried lentils
Canned tomatoes
