Man, I've been wanting to invest in a kegging setup for years now, but have moved pretty much every year for over a decade and it seems like a hassle.

Is something like the Northern Brewer setup a ripoff, and is better to set things up yourself?

Also, all those books are what businessmen buy in airports and read on planes.

It would be cheaper to build something yourself, I paid around $1500 for my setup, all I had to do was fill it up with beer. Probably could have built something myself and saved $500 but I wanted something compact that would look neat inside my house.

I want to build a keg fridge out in my entertaining area, just a simple fridge with 2 taps in the front door so I can watch sports with mates and get hammered on cheap homebrew.

Once you get onto kegging homebrew you'll never look back. I can keg two 5 gallon batches in about half an hour, probably would have taken me 3 or 4 hours to bottle the same amount. Kegs are so easy.

Seems like a good deal. If you search Google images for kegerator (chest freezer converted into a keg fridge) it should give you some good ideas on how to set it up. You could probably get more taps and kegs for that price.
I know $1500 seems like a lot but it came with all quality stainless taps and font that should last me a lifetime if I look after it. I'd rather spend the extra money than have leaking taps, stuck taps, taps that pour foam. Shit like that is why I paid a premium. I get home from work and pour a beer from a tap with no dramas apart from fear of the keg running out.
