They're not pronounced 'leechee' in Mandarin. The closest way I can think of describing how it's pronounced is 'lee j-'. The 'j-' would be pronounced as though you wanted to say, 'I just pooped my pants' but then you second guess yourself and say, 'I j-... ust need to go see a man about a horse'.

The thing is that the closest way of describing that 'j-' in English writing is with 'ee' but its a completely different 'ee' to the one for 'ly'. Kind of like 'e' changes a lot depending on the word, like in 'the' and 'lemon'.

Also my favourite fruits are yellow peaches/ nectarines, strawberries, limes, pineapple if it didn't burn my mouth so much. Mango is also nice. Tart fruits are my favourite. I actually live somewhere lychees are relatively common/ abundant but I'm not so keen on them. Grapes and melons are also mediocre.

One time in high school my friend and I stumbled upon a lychee tree as big as a two floor house. We robbed that fucker and drove home with garbage bags full of bright red lychees. Now I hang out with another friend who has a small tree in his yard which produces lychees 100x crisper and sweeter than anything store bought. This is in Tampa.

You have to go straight to the source e.g. Thailand or Malaysia for the best ones. From my experience travelling around SE Asia, mangosteens are easily damaged and bruised during transportation, resulting in lower quality and more expensive fruits overseas.
