i wanted to say potato salad at first, but that's not exclusive enough. sausage salad it is
>>
still pretty cute how canadians thing "poutine" is their invention
>>
>>7257865

potato salad is best tho. whenever my mom makes some I literally cannot stop eating until all of it is gone.
>>
>>7257865
Austrian or Bavarian?
>>
>>7257889
if it's not Canadian invention than what it is from?
>>
huzarensla

The lettuce on top of a hamburger.
>>

it didn't pop up in canada until the 50s or even later
the canadians likely learned it from people in NY because that has been the regional way to eat cheese fries since at least 50 years earlier and it was actually a very popular food during the great depression. if you go into any diner and order cheese fries it will either come with gravy by default or the waitress will at least ask you if you want it
and there are stories that people in europe may have been eating it even before that
The only thing the canadians did was give the dish a name in its own right instead of just calling it fries with cheese and gravy
>>
>>7258091
it's still says that Poutine is Quebec origin
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine_%28plat%29
>>
>>7258160
>since 1901, the closest dish to poutine was known as "Chips, cheese and gravy" and was widely available in the UK (particularly the north of England and Scotland)

giving something a name doesn't mean you originated it
like I said, they learned it from travels through NY most likely
>>
>>7258203
it's still a Quebec meal
>>
>>7258267
I get how they are super proud of it because its the only culinary contribution canada has made that anyone else in the world remotely cares about, but it definitively didn't originate there.
they named it, the popularized it, they love it, but it came from somewhere else

apple pie is dutch not american, but it an american icon
tikka masala is english not indian but indian restaurants serve it
fried fish predates modern history and fries are from belgium, but the english love their fish and chips

culturally its fine to be proud of a food tradition, but to lay claim to your region when it didn't originate there is silly
why does nobody know who the canadian that invented poutine is, even though its less that 70 years old? because the inventor wasnt from canada

well then pizza isn't NYCs food because it "came from" italy

so shut the fuck up faggot
>>
It's shit. I hate it.
>>
>>7260518
That's correct, pizza is Italian, not American. Does it hurt to know that your country never invented anything?
>>
>>7260518
Assravaged Canatard. Always popping off about (aboat?) the U.S.'s dumb stuff, but goes full Krakatoa-Ass at the slightest hint of criticism about Canada. When did Canada go from being the Bro-tier jock who quietly and confidently nods his head at the other bros in the locker room to being the 5' 1" 110# curly red headed pipsqueek yapping at everyone, trying to convince them he's not a virgin?

mais chus pas de New York, anon. Chus même pas américain. C just évident que frites/sauce/fromage a ben été inventé avant les annés 70.
>>
>>7258318

>fried fish predates modern history and fries are from belgium, but the english love their fish and chips

Actually the chips in question are not fried and the dish as a whole is more likely Italian in origin (or influence). This is no surprise given the fact chippys were mostly set up, and run by, Italian families.
>>
>>7260746
but the canadians likely learned it from new york, not the english, because it has been commonly eaten in NY for a very long time and it borders canada
>>

not fries*

Are the faux frogs trying to steal chips, cheese and gravy again?

Quebec is one pathetic place.
>No no, we are a country, we Are French
>>
>>7261415
I'm not disputing that (though I'm not agreeing with it either). All I'm saying is that putting cheese and gravy on fries was not first done in the 1970s.

Québec curd cheese is definitely the best cheese to have with it though. The closest I've found to it in Europe is Gouda.
>>
>>7261516
Is this like slav ceviche?
>>
>>7260518
That's a well known and accepted fact, even in NYC.

Are you fucking retarded?

Greek Salad.

I might be biased but I think it's a great salad (and healthy too)

Quebecois isn't a nationality, no matter how loudly the PQ screams.

Who does that belong to? It was made by an Italian living in the US, but working in Mexico.

As a Scottish man, anything with potatoes.

The Malaysians, Singaporeans, and Indians could also claim that as their national salad.

hey borneo

how come you haven't made a restaurant thread recently
>>
>>7261962
Nope. Sad at what seems to be the ruin of a really cool place. I've been a number of times. Great food, nice people. My wife's Albertonian for Chrissakes. But it's like Canada's become Berkeley north. And yes, I like poutine. My wife makes a homemade version with curds from a local dairy - super yummy!
>>
>>7261890
Is it wrong that I fapped to this?

>it's 5 am

no, it is not considered a national dish. most places west of ontario have never heard of the dish.

also, quebecker is not a nationality.

yes it is, we're entirely different than the rest of Canada
>>

>cheese fries
Curd isn't cheese ya dingus.
>>
>>7258091
It was created when a guy was at a restaurant and they were just about to close up, so they didn't have much food left, so the guy saw fries and cheese curds behind the counter and said that he wanted them. The restaurant owner decided that the cheese curds should be melted and they put gravy on it. All happened in Canada.
>>
>>7257640
>Had a poutine made with potato wedges for lunch today
Goddamn was that good.
>>
>>7263191

Quebecois have always been uppity about shit. Same with Ontario and BC. Most of the prairie provinces and the maritimes are pretty chill though. Also Albertan.
>>
>>7258091
Cheese curds are not cheese.

And plugins gravy isn't really gravy. It's more like a brown mystery sauce.
>>
>>7266359

Well what does Alberta have to talk about? Hey it sure is irrelevant living here eh?

You would think that, wheatnigger
