So what's the deal with airline food?

Who invited Jerry Seinfeld...
>>
Space issues, cost-control issues to keep the cost of a plane ticket down, it has to be something that can be easily heated with no other significant preparation (at least for economy), your taste buds don't work the same in the air and thus your ability to taste food is muted, which leaves it feeling bland except for when they shock it with certain basic flavors.

Incidentally, tomato juice tastes better in the air than on the ground and many people who dislike it on the ground enjoy it while in flight. Get a can next time you fly.
>>
>>7242525
You should log off ;)
>>
pick the vegitarian or any religious style menu. they are usually free and a lot better than the standard.
>>
Airline food usually sucks, to some degree I agree with being able to separate the ticket from the meal but usually the stuff served is palatable but hardly anything beyond that. Usually gives me gas too which is quite uncomfortable on an airplane/airports.

These result me in preparing something to eat in advance that I can bring on board, usually a sandwich.
>>
last time i was on a plane the food was pretty good both ways

free alcohol too
>>
>>7242535
is that actually true about tomato juice?
what's different about how it tastes?
>>
>>7242554
A study was done after Lufthansa realized they were serving almost as much tomato juice as beer without knowing why.

Basically, at ground level, tomato juice tastes rather "earthy". In the air, that element of it is more subdued, and what's left in the taste is overall more refreshing and appealing to the average person, with that earthy taste being subdued by the change to your sense of taste.

It's shit.

It's literally just a bunch of shit in foil bags that they throw in the microwave in the back room for a minute and put on a trolley.

The desserts can be quite nice though.
>>
It's food served generally on long flights.

I mean, you guys, me Oh my, you guys have the shit end of this shtick. The food is crap, some airlines charge for alcohol, the air stewardesses can be anything below an 8...

We in Asia, we stronk. Plane food good, flavourful and full of quality. Alcohol is free. Women are hot due to extremely stringent hiring policies. Grorious plane service number one!
>>
>>7246109
Good thing your airline service is so good, gotta have something good considering everything else sicks.

>>
airplane food isn't that bad, it's mainly your tastebuds acting weird because of the high altitude.

They happened to be serving it as an option and eventually realized it was disproportionately ordered.

Asian airline tickets are also very expensive to compensate.

I took a flight to vancouver with my family for an extended family wedding. Older family members opted for flight with United during better hours with no other amenities.

The younger members opted for a flight on Cathay Pacific. We had a number of complimentary features, including alcohol and a substantially better meal and alcohol. However, we also took an utter redeye flight that was a connection from NY to Hong Kong.

We paid more or less the same for all of those plane seats. That says something.

>>
>>7246377
How do they empty it? Do they have bomb doors that just open and dump out all the poo?
>>
>>7246938
They use a vacuum-waste system which sucks the poo into storage tanks until they land, then the ground crew empties them.
>>
>>7247013
From there do they dump it in the designated streets?
>>
>>7247762

>>
>>7242525
You guys are lucky. I just starve myself on international flights because I don't want to have to use the bathroom on the plane in order to take a dump.

If I get too hungry and weak, I just ask for some soup.
>>
>>7242542
This.
Vegetarian Indian cuisine on planes is surprisingly really great.

>what if someone shakes my table!
>I don't want sauce on my precious new McDonalds t-shirt!

Fuck off, they don't even serve food before or during turbulence, exactly because of that. Besides, the turbulence has to be fucking crazy for it to bounce around enough to actually fling anything instead of gently waving it up and down a bit
Go on a real plane you fat fuck.

I live in EU and I fly to Asia for work quite often, our company uses Emirates as their main carrier. From time to time I get business class tickets (mainly for flights that pass 7 hours total) and the food both in the airplane and in the lounges is excellent.
>>
>>7249032
How was the bathroom tho?
Was it an aisle of foil trays or was in a hole in the floor of the plain?

i think airline food has got lot better in recent years., now that they know how altitude effects our sense of taste.

I flew BA first class last year and the food was pretty great. I had a spicy carrot soup to start, and then duck a main course. They also give you proper cutlery and plates.

>Besides, the turbulence has to be fucking crazy for it to bounce around enough to actually fling anything instead of gently waving it up and down a bit
Huh. The one time I flew there was turbulence like this. Hard, sudden jerks up or down out of nowhere. I didn't think nothing of it, I thought that was typical. Explains why everyone else was freaking out. It took a stewardess off her feet and when it happened you bounced out of the seat until the seatbelts caught you.
>>
>>7253411
>he likes food that looks like literal dog shit
>>
I think they use that whole "altitude mskrs your tastebuds act differently" shit to get away with serving the vilest cheapest shit imaginable. I bring foods i like on board and they taste the same as on the ground.
>>
>>7253604
It does happen, have had similar experiences - but it's not very often. And you always get warnings from the pilot beforehand, so usually stewardesses buckle down while it's underway.

I don't think airplane food is inherently bad or anything, it just happens to be sitting in an environment that is just full of diesel and vomit residues and is really dry.

Why? I flew hung over once and it was the only time I legitimately feared for my life on a plane. I wasn't afraid of the plane crashing, but rather me having a stroke or some shit.
