>>7216289 I hate this so much. They used to have all kinds of whole-bean coffee at supermarkets and they even provided grinders, but it's all been pushed out in favor of entire aisles full of k-cups. You're pretty much limited to getting reamed by local roasters or online prices, especially in a small town.
>>7216366 >local roasters My local roaster does fucking amazing roasts, and $15 a pound Canuckistani shekles isn't especially crazy. There's pre-bagged whole beans on the shelves here still of coffee that tastes like shit for the same price.
>>7216584 We have local roasters that make excellent beans for anywhere from $15-$30+ per pound. Luckily, there's also a local Co-Op that sells whole bean coffee and they routinely have quality stuff on sale at ~$9/lbs.
I can't be bothered to take a picture, but my coffee setup includes a 4 cup Mr Coffee, a French press, and an espresso maker. I typically buy breakfast blend for the Mr Coffee and espresso/dark roast for the espresso machine. I've gotten good enough at steaming milk that I'm *almost* ready to try going full hipster and making latte art.
If you prefer coffee from a K-cup, you should kill yourself.
>>7216732 >extremely popular with coffee drinkers >a scam it's not walmarts fault that people are buying k-cups in droves people actually seem to like convenience of pressing a button and getting a consistent portion of coffee in only a few minutes. Look at their machines and how tall they are. They're purposefully designed to fit travel mugs underneath the spout. They're designed for people who want their morning caffeine sludge to give them a little morale for the morning commute, not for people who enjoy experimenting with coffee and the general process of making coffee.
>>7216748 Bullshit. Americans are the gullible idoits I've ever met, especially the middle class. A little marketing and a few celebrity endorsements you could sell dildo shaped chocolate bars in the millions
>>7216666 moved recently, also I have flatmates and there was no more room in the kitchen, I havent used it recently as I have a shit ton of ground coffee that is too fine for this machine so I use the moka pot more often
>>7216925 You deserve better cups. Just go ahead and treat yourself. I recently received this, everything tastes better out of it. I'm sure its just placebo but I don't care, I believe it so its true. http://verdanttea.com/teas/hand-painted-blue-bamboo-porcelain-mug/
Meet Mr. Coffee. I got him for $7 at a thrift store and hasn't failed me yet. He just makes this annoying series of five really loud beeps when the pot is ready, and I'm looking to disable that feature.
Just gimme two and a half cups of strong, preferably tasty coffee in the morning so I can take my dump. I can't drink it in the afternoon, 'cause I'm a sensitive lad.
>>7216959 >buying used coffee machines My last mr. coffee machine went to charity after I forgot to remove the filter with used grounds in it and then put it away for several months. When I felt like making some coffee, I opened it up and it was literally coated with mold and maggots fermenting in the grounds.
So I washed it out somewhat and gave it to goodwill.
>>7216964 Only when his "handle" gives me access to that pot full of hot mouth-syrup, which I sup and slurp at until I feel better about myself, each and every day. >>7216990 I found a guide to snip my man, but I've been lazy. mongolianquill net /2011/10/disable-the-obnoxious-beeping-on-a-mr-coffee-model-jwx27/
Actually, tonight I should try out the timed brew feature for the first time for tomorrow morning. I haven't done this since I got him in October. >>7216998 >buying coffee machines full of factory-fresh, sensitive plastic residue Glad you're such a charitable chap! Cheaper machines for me! The moldy ones are the most loving, because they know what it's like to feel used and abandoned. Maybe I'll start a collection of Mr. Coffees so I'll never be lonely again?
>>7216732 >I haven't seen a supermarket grinder in a long time. I remember as a kid walking down the coffee in krogers there was always a mess of beans and grounds near the grinder. I remember when the Wal-Mart here had one.
Had a grinder to grind your beans before you buy them and you could even make your coffee there.
>new years resolution take everything apart and service it. replacing grommets and gaskets and whatever else that needs doing. probably should have done that months ago but can't be bothered in this forty degree summer heat. that's like two thousand farenheit or something.
>>7217448 uv kills coffee. if light can get into the container then you should keep the container in a cupboard or something.
>>7217448 I usually buy the beans freshly roasted, then grind it the same day and freeze it portioned in small sandwich bags. Seems to keep perfectly, and I don't notice any change in flavour over the months.
>>7217490 It doesnt make a vacuum it's just a tight seal. There is still air inside with no way of getting it out. Also the top cracks after 2 months. Got a replacement and after two months cracks again. Just buy 1/2 pound at a time
>>7217673 thanx for the heads up. i'll just stick with what i'm using for now.
>>7217748 that link may be helpful and i don't mean to discredit your good intentions but unfortunately it's not showing many roasters in my city of melbourne. it doesn't even show my regular roaster. i'm only saying this so people can know that they may have more options than what they see on that map.
unrelated: this is my first post for 2016. no sex had on this night. :(
>>7217481 It's like, if you see a sad movie, you cry. If you see a scary movie, you scream or jump. You see a funny movie, you laugh. These are all involuntary reactions. What if the movie is just grand and epic and you've been smiling the whole time, and at the end, what do you do to show everyone else what you've been experiencing? You clap, because there isn't an involuntary reaction for "le epic blockbuster movie." Some americlaps take it too far, though, as I've read on here, and clap at every major scene. That shit sucks. We're taught to wait until the end to clap and cheer, but some people are too overeager and think that because they're the biggest geeks of the movie's fandom, they get to take attention from the film.
>>7216732 At an Albertson's I went to recently, they have the grinder, but they hardly have any whole bean coffee and the ones they do have are in sealed bags. I'm not really sure why they don't just remove it.
Also, they have literally more Community coffee than anything else. The shelf space is like 12 feet of Community, then 8 of other stuff.
I almost regret getting in to coffee. I used to be satisfied with some bustelo out of a moka pot with milk and sugar. It now tastes like shit to me. And now that I'm off milk it's undrinkable. I drink mostly happy mug and locally roasted stuff, and it tastes amazing. It's a rather pricey habit though since I currently drink 42 grams of the good coffee supply a day. I'm also considering purchasing a baratza encore to replace my shitty aliexpress-rebrand knockoff porlex. I want off this ride.
>>7219877 That moka pot is the qt-iest thing I've seen this year. How are those coffees? I have happy mug's yirgacheffe adado coming in tomorrow. I'm pretty excited for it.
Its literally just a moka with a heavier valve. Not worth the price difference to me for how often I brew with a moka
Used to have one, sold it. Pretty big pain in the ass to set up, brew, and clean.
I almost never drink milk drinks at home so the $100 for a stand alone frother like the Bellman Steamer isn't justified to me and when I do make milk drinks the FP froths milk just fine and much better than those little POS battery powered one
I have a Turkish ibrik which I find much better than the briki which is the Greek version. Still, I hardly ever use it and its put up who knows where.
I forgot to mention every Tuesday Baratza puts up refurbs on their website. You can regularly get Encores for $100. If you want new then buy it from Happy Mug its the same 129 as everywhere else but also comes with a free 1lb or roasted or 3lb of green.
What kind of sucks about Baratzas is companies are allowed to sell it below 129 but aren't allowed to openly advertise the price so you just have to keep checking various places and hope to get lucky.
I hear you about the price. There are still a lot of things that I want to get. I drink mostly Happy Mug as well because its good, fresh coffee for about as cheap as you can get it. I just can't afford 18/12oz most places charge all the time.
>>7221980 Yeah I've been eyeing Baratza's refurb page for a while, and just when I had justified the $100 splurge in my head, it was gone. I'll wait next Tuesday. Thanks for the heads up.
Happy Mug's prices are amazing. For $13 I can get a pound of really fresh coffee shipped to me. $13 + $5.50 train fares only gets me 12 oz of not quite as good coffee from a local roaster. Happy Mug's prices are going up though. http://blog.happymugcoffee.com/2015/12/23/2016/
On a side note, I believe pilon really is better than bustelo. It's not roasted as dark, as an anon said about a week ago or so. I had it straight from my moka pot last night.
i dont own anything that can be used for drip coffee so i used to tie a paper filter over the lip of my cup with a rubber band so that the filter made a hammock for the grounds. then i'd just stand there and pour boiling water over it
now i tie grounds and sugar into the filter and use them like teabags
