Old one is dead so i'm making a new one here.
Everything and anything oldschool related.
Sharing some oldschool finds here incase anyone is interested.
Taking some pics from the tumblr tags for inspo now
Oh cool someone else is finally posting
something about old school just makes me so so happy!
i think its the simplicity of it? idk i love recent lolita just as much too, but the atmosphere of old school is just really innocent and calming to me haha
Yeah, mostly the simlicity. It also gives me that same calming feeling, plus. it's a lot more easy/comfortable to wear as a daily style over modern lolita, which i also love just as much. I've been wearing mostly oldschool as daily wear and modern coords to meets and events.
sorry about the spamming im saving pictures for my fashion inspo folder lol
These threads make me laugh
"lolita is not as before *sob*sob*"
Fashion evolves, get over it.
Also, if you're old enough to wore oldschool ages ago...how old are you? 30? 40? Don't you think is pretty late/creepy to dress like that? seems pathetic.
Grow up grandmas
>tfw nearly 40 and into latest AP prints (except Twinkle Journey, that was bad)
>do not know how to feel about this post.
Thread is great, though. Love the photos, though I no longer wear this style.
Is this oldschool? I saw this and at first I thought it was a bit ugly and normally I hate this print. But the outfit and its simplicity kind of grew on me.
Could this be considered oldschool? is from 2012
I'm not sure
No. Old school-esque designs can be and have been released in more recent years but this is not one of them; it may not be up to par with recent trends but it's still a rather modern design.
The farther you go back the easier it is to find old school pieces and I'd say the most recent they can be are releases from 2006, maybe 2007 or 2008 depending on the design.
Speaking of Baby's Classical Series, is it here to stay or is it just temporary? It has it's own section on the online shop menu but it just doesn't seem like it's own permanent (or at least long lasting) thing.
I'm sure they'll re-release their "classic" designs again in the future even if they don't dedicate a whole section for them. Designs like Shirring Princess have been re-released many many times in the past, they're very popular.
I love this one so much.
Ooh awesome, thank you.
yeah I was wondering about doing that (I tried once about 7 years ago before I could actually sew and it has still kind of put me off trying, that's how terrible it was)
And of course right after I give up and ask, I find a place that has them - Angelic Pretty has some utks at the moment (the otks are sold out in most colours).
I just went to Avant Gauche for some inspiration and was greeted with pic related (blacked out the email address in the screenshot but it's on the page if you want to contact the owner). I'm aware that it's the owner's right to shut it down if she has no interest in it anymore but for some reason this makes me incredibly sad.
This JSK is up on Mandarake for 5000 yen, I thought somebody in this thread might like it.
It was a sort of archive of pictures and scans from old GLBs (dating back to 2000 if I remember correctly) and other information relating to lolita fashion 'back in the day'. I'm sad to see it gone.
Aaaw man, I remember this site since the beginning, sad to see it go. I almost took it for granted, like I thought it would always be there. The site in its full from had been up for over 12 years. Shiiiit, way to make a girl feel old.
I hope Charlotte knows how much it's been appreciated over the years, I have such fond memories of going through all the pictures on there, not to mentioned for quite some time it was the only place you could find so many nice scans from the g&l bibles etc.
same here, I've collected most of them over the years, kinda makes me want to say thank you in some way.
Oh no! It was one of the first lolita sites in my life. The fact of its existence until these days has made me feel, that this kind of lolita I fall in love with is still alive. Now it feels like original lolita, which we call old school now, is officially dead. It hurts.
I'm uploading them all to oldschoollolita.tumblr.com and they're already peppered throughout my imgur album http://imgur.com/a/ij8db
Although I guess technically I didn't save everything since a god deal of the photos wouldn't load for me
Self posting from back in the day. Not even that long ago, 2010 I think. That was my first brand dress, paid out my ass in customs fees to get it from Baby, lol
>tfw found this pic on EGL posted on the first day of 2000 in january.
I've only seen a few coords with Hospitality Doll, and that's including Meta's ads for it. Any more would be appreciated, or just old school nurse-themed lolita in general.
Here's Lavenderlilly in Engelsbeginn
And here's Hospitality Doll and friend in Hospitality Doll
I fukkin didn't realize she had HD she's my idol
This auction was so damn nerve racking! It jumped from 820 yen to 3000 yen in the last five minuets. Thank god I was able to go on a "potty break" to check it. I was able to up my bid just in time! I hate it when auctions end during work hours. This is the last of a 10 dresses ive bought this month. I went a little overboard on my old school brand shopping spree. Good things the prices are pretty good on the older stuff now a days.
I know that feel. But congrats! Are the other 9 dresses also old school?
It is.I heard there was a lot of drama about it back then. [spoiler]That's why I posted it[/nospoilersoncgl]
Kana was my idol when I was new. Now that I look back she looked great but her music was fucking terrible
Yeah all except one jsk was 2010 and older. Mostly older IW releases, some AP and Baby. I am in love with the details of older releases like flocky prints, pintucks, lace, bustles, etc.
Pic related is my old school dream dress. Not the oldest, but still, 2007 release. I actually fell in love with the OP but I have a fairly large bust so I dont fit anything without shirring.
I also really miss these types of blouses with the ribbon lacing going down the sleeves.
god this is so beautiful it makes me want to cry
sorry, I'm new to lolita and can't always tell the difference yet. is this better?
It was originally released in like 2005... Stop acting like an authority when you don't know what you're talking about. The style of it regardless can work very well with old school gothic coords.
>implying liking one style means you hate all others
Calm down. I love sweet and classic as much as old school, they're all great. No one in this thread is ragging on modern lolita, they're just going "oh, look at these older styles, they're so pretty"
At the moment the one blog I follow is http://oldschoollolita.tumblr.com/
It has a mix of styles, western and Japanese old school coords, and has a pretty extensive taglist if you need to search for something specific in a coord!
They asked if it's also called that at all, which it is. Get over it and the fact that you are new. Calling someone who knows what they're talking about a noob only makes you look stupider. Also, seeing as the style was created in Japan and by these brands, what they say holds a lot of weight.
Sorry for the picture for ants, this is from an old geocities blog. It's a similar AB headdress.
Allow me to clarify for some anons.
It's not that the stupid AB headdress isn't old or whatever, it's that it's a fucking overdone meme headdress and a lot of people are tired of seeing it. If you like it so much then wear it but chances are someone will be like "ugh not THAT headpiece again". There are better AB pieces to wear out there.
Now, whoever's in this thread asking dumbshit questions and making us argue about stupid shit needs to gtfo. Either they're really fucking new or a really shitty troll, but take basic bitch questions to the general. Let's get back on topic, the sodium levels in here are over my daily recommended value.
It's really not that overdone, and it's hardly anything to get worked up over, so what if it's popular, by what standards? The smallest subset of a small fashion of pictures posted online? It's highly doubtful you would ever even see it. If it excites anon to buy one and wear and enjoy then they shouldn't let a dumb opinion like this stop them.
It is YOU who needs to gtfo. Are maxi-pad headdresses overdone too? Or bonnets? Or katyushas?
Ab's one is recognisable, but goth lolita is hardly popular now. And I rarely see this particular headdress
Can we just calm down and keep the discussion civil, this isn't the cof thread, this thread has always been chill as fuck good vibes old school wow yes appreciation, let's keep it that way. Don't scare the noobs off, they need the most love.
What do you believe to be the basis of the old school look? I think the key is to keep it raw and kinda barbaric. You know, not that nice cute matchy-matchy coordinations but free and gorgeously primitive. Not the kawaii bjd doll but antique and unperfect one.
To add to that, when it is quite matchy matchy, it's sort of unbalanced in a cute way.
It's sort of like someone put it together like a regular outfit rather than a coordinate, if they didn't have the perfect matching shoes or cardigan, they'd make do with something they already owned.
Old school lolita feels far more organic. (And clearly I've thought about this far too much)
I am curious. How hard is it to find old Angelic Pretty. I mean 1980s and 1990s AP. I am into natural kei and I heard angelic pretty used to be more natural kei friendly. I am also curious what these older pieces look like. Where can I start? How expensive will these pieces be? Should I even try?
Well they were known as Pretty then (the 90s tag says PRETTY in a large font if I remember correctly). I've never seen pictures of very early 80s ap but I've seen dirt cheap late 90s ap on auctions. It was black and short and lacey. I think finding early ap would very difficult as they didn't produce a lot. It's something to cop if you stumble upon it, but I wouldn't bother actively searching. Just go for pink house and kaneko isao designs if you want proto lolita. There are loads of ooold pieces floating around on auction since they were popular and have been around longer.
I think meta was quite natural kei when it started (more recently), with long dresses and apron sets and all. I have a set that the seller on yj said was over a decade old. The shipping cost as much as the set.
Thanks anon. I just bought a few Pink house dresses and I am in love. I haven't bought anything from Kaneko Isao though. I am kind of shifting from Classic Lolita to Natural Kei. I was just trying to find more variety.
I think the original Pretty store sold things from other brands/ designers too so that makes it harder to find.
Well Kaneko Isao was Pink House's lead designer for many years, his brand wonderful world is also worth checking out on auctions for more pink house type stuff. I'll try to find the interview with him from 2003 where he's talking about the style, it had a really big following where girls came to his shows decked out in his designs.
Here's the meta set I bought, it reminds me a bit of those garland sets but rufflier. I think a lot of oldschool country/ floral classic dresses that many brands made would work well for your transitioning taste.
Keeping OT, I think this is actually one of those long dresses meta made. My computer's a mess so I apologise if I'm mistaken.
Do you gulls ever try to wear your old school in a more casual less attention grabby way so you can wear it more often or is it even possible? I have a lot of velvet old school that I love dearly, it always makes my heart skip a beat when I find it second hand, but a lot of the time it's just sitting in my closet cause I don't have the guts to wear it alone in public and tea parties with the local comm is generally once a month.
Depends on what you mean by "casual". If you mean in a way that normies wouldn't notice, no. If you mean like, in a normal lolita way, then yes, totally. I often coord my old school pieces in a much more contemporary lolita manner, but another thing is that casual lolita back then was much more casual than it is now, so you can get away with wearing a skirt with a cutsew and boots and it's still "old school". Also depends on how intricate the piece actually is. Is it a lacemonster? Than probably not. If it's just plan velveteen with some cute pintucks or something, then it's super easy to make casual.
>tfw I wore docs with old meta
In my defence it was to hang out with friends and i didn't post it online
The dress cut was very clean and simple too, not super lolita.
I wouldn't reccomend it with frilly oldschool black x white whatever, but maybe with a quirkier meta style.
Anyone know what year/release this set may be from? All I know is it is obviously Meta. I looked on lolibrary, and there is a Bouquet print high waisted OP from 1999 with no photos, and I am wondering if this could be from that release?
Possibly. I think it could be Meta's Trumpet Bouquet Pattern OP (With Arm Cover) except without the arm covers. It's from the same year as the high waisted OP. It also has the capelet though so don't take my word for it.
I just got this in the mail and it took my breath away, I was worried this wouldn't but a good purchase, but I had no idea it'd be so beautiful in real life, pics just don't do it justice. It's admittedly on the shorter side at around 88cm so I wear a black underskirt and it looks great. The ties in the back are oddly very short to where it's impossible to make a nice looking bow, so I think I'm going to have them removed and make a headpiece with it instead.
