WHO GOING TO TAIYOU CON
I won't be cosplaying but I will be doing some panels
Thats not true at all, Sabo's panels were lack luster this year and the dealers hall was really bad I always go into it looking to buy at least one thing but I left this year empty handed because Sabo's dealers never change. The Vendor Hall at Taiyou Con was really good last year with new vendors that don't normally come to Arizona so I end up spending some money.
Taiyou Con's guest list this year is pretty good and more anime focused than sabo's was. Lets be real, no one wanted robotech.
The two convention run differently because they are run by two different organizations both of them have their own faults.
I'm personally really looking forward to Taiyou. There's people coming in from other states again to attend to it'll be a slightly different crowd. The panel list is also way more interesting. My only wish for AZ cons is that they would look to really successful conventions and why people love those cons so much.
I would like to thank Taiyoucon for not allowing over 30 "Ask" or "Character Q&A" panels like Saboten did. And thank you for having good guests that are relevant to what people are interested in right now.
Well for starters drawing on food would be nice. I get they don't supply it but they can at least bring their own squeeze tubes like the JoJo cafe at sabo did. The option to draw on tables and such would also be cute/fun.
They aren't allowed/supposed to bring outside food, because it is a breech of contract with the convention center/hotels.
>Yes, even sauces can cause that breech, because it is consumable.
Mike posted a picture of the guide. It looks decent. He keeps is profile on public like a scrub
Please forgive me I completely forgot about this. I have been looking at other conventions out-of-state and how they run over the past year and a half. This year is a little bit of an awkward growth year since I was planning to implement some of the changes but ran out of time due to me being in school having multiple jobs etc. some of the things that I found another conventions do well is keeping everything in house instead of bringing in an outside group to do a maid cafe. I want taiyou con to shift to this model. This way there's no competition for events and there's room for unlimited growth. There are other changes coming but I don't want to talk about them.
Ps. Still driving
What. I went to buy a ticket, and the only options were the full event and the $250 full event. I only plan on going Saturday. Is there no one day badge? Or was there a cut off or something?
If anyone's selling one (or a convincing copy) pls let me know.
There's a difference between not caring and oversharing, especially if you're representing a public group and are unable to separate your personal life from your staffing.
What a shame.
Posting cosplay. All girls were just ones I was scared to talk to.
Anyone else feel super fucking awkward at the Smash Bunny Cafe thing?
Like...I went there to play a couple games and hang out with cute bunny girls, not get verbally assaulted by some femdom fetishist the entire time.
It's fine if you're into that stuff, but why would you force it on people and make it the main focus of the cafe?
One girl at my table looked like she was going to bolt or start crying at any minute
it was pretty bad yeah, I left after like 10 minutes. also half the girls weren't even there.plus it was in the room right next to the "rave" so you couldnt hear shit over the throbbing beat of generic techno
You'd think an anime convention would have some japanese or anime themed music, but it was all normalfag shit. Not even good normalfag shit. The shittiest shit you couldn't even dance to.
For those if you who didn't go to the Bunny Cafe, here's a little summary for you:
>started around 30 to 45 minutes late
>only drink was water. if you wanted something else, you had to leave the room and bring it back
>femdom starts yelling at everyone to shut up and listen
>femdom makes everyone respond to her by saying "yes mistress"
>femdom likes using the word "fuck" like she's a middle schooler
>femdom won't shut up and keeps yelling at the entire room every 5 minutes, even after the bunnies are out
>femdom makes guy do a strip tease
>femdom makes a different guy strip to his boxers and go to every table and apologize for talking
>even bunnies got uncomfortable and started complaining about femdom
>the games set up at our table weren't playable because there were too many people (most games had around a max of 6 players. There were around 12 at our table)
I left after that. If anyone cares to add on, go for it.
Seriously, I have no problems if you're into that stuff in the bedroom, but don't make it the main focus of your cafe unless it's advertised as such.
Some of us aren't into that at all. I just wanted to play Smash with some cute grills, not be yelled at and called a fucker every 5 minutes.
I went with my boyfriend and we felt vastly out of place because we werent teenagers in bad cosplays. Is this how all anime specific conventions go? I remember normal people in normal clothing wasn't uncommon at Saboten, or PCC.
Th convention is no longer held at a hotel [now at Mesa Convention Center], so unless they move back or people fuck around the actual hotel, I doubt elevators are going to still be a problem.
If you just look on their FB page it's not that hard
outsourcing girls for the maid cafes sounds like a good idea. Auditions are a good idea to filter out the girls who have no personality. Also it'd be nice to see some new faces, mixed in with some of the more memorable old ones. Maybe approach some of the more well known AZ cosplay chicks? It'd be better advertisement for the con as well, and people would be more likely to visit the cafe if specific cosplayers will be there
I always enjoy Taiyou; it's just big enough to be fun but not so big that I have to be jam packed next to a bunch of other people the whole con. The location is really nice for cosplay photo ops and the panels rooms are all reasonably sized and it's got a pretty good competitive pokemon scene. I went camping this year instead of going to Saboten :P
fuckin KNEW this shit wasn't worth the time
thank you for this report anon
This is something I despise about those kinds of places.
>make a lounge where the fucking only thing is Hooters for nerds
>the girls aren't attractive
I'm sorry but fat acceptance has no place at a fucking Hooters.
I had a class with this guy a few years ago at CGCC; he's a pretty cool guy. He works/volunteers for the con right?
Another reason I think they should outsource/audition for the maid cafes and night lounges. They could filter through all the obese chicks who have somehow wiggled their way into the cafes and lounges. People go to these things because they want to see cute girls.
I know that AYS doesn't but everyone seems super fake. I was at the cafe at saboten and it make it super akward. They were trying so hard to be of "kawaii,"
The koncolle cafe was really cool, still wish the foods was better.
Please forgive me, I did not find out until after the fact. I was taking care of other area's no one alerted me. If i knew about it I would of taken care of it because that is not what it was even suppose to be. I apologize to everyone who felt super awkward during the lounge.
It could of been it was super rushed.
It looked like Femdon was pushing one of the girls to tears from what I could tell. I think she was supposed to be Rosalina? She looked like she was physically not doing too well and then Femdon started bitching her out and made her leave. I bounced not too long after that cause fuck having to listen to femdom anymore.
Normally the lounge isn't even that bad, I go to it every time and have an enjoyable time. This time just seemed really off for some reason...... I didn't stay long. I'll go to one more before passing judgement though. Sure not all the girls are 10/10 but no one falls below a 6/10
Also, here's a rough idea on Sugar Pink.
I was tagged in this to go with my friend. It looks like a more recent photo .
I thought it was actually pretty tolerable. The costumes weren't all amazing, but the hosts were fun and it was pretty brief. My friends in the masquerade said the judges were super nice.
I did as well, It started on time and was pretty enjoyable, I did see some people who did the exact same thing as they did at saboten though. I dont believe they won anything this time around either.
Both panels put on by True Damage Productions ("That Game is Bad and You Should Feel Bad" and "Why Aren't You Roleplaying") were pretty great. "That Game is Bad" was basically just a /v/ thread irl and it was hilarious.
Chris Sabat and Sean Schemmel were also really entertaining in both of their panels.
>True damage productions
Isn't that Ian? I can't stand hearing that kid talk without wanting to punch him in the face he's so condescending and full of himself. I can't imagine his panels being great.
>/v/ thread irl
It was just people screaming about video games, it was funny. I do remember Ian, he seemed a little bit more faggy than some of the other guys but they all seemed like typical 4chanfags.
