I haven't seen a thread like this in a while, but what are some rarely-cosplayed pieces of media that you wish had more attention in the community? What about characters (from popular or unpopular series) that you'd like to see more of?
For me, it's Rhyhm Heaven. I love the series and think it has a lot of potential for cute cosplays but I've never seen much from it.
Characters from bemani games (iidx, pop'n, DDR, sdvx, etc.)
Characters from cave games (mushihimesama, deathsmiles)
90s anime (90-99)
Nadia Secret of Blue Water (the whole cast not just nadia or jean)
I really want the last one, but the show is over 25 years old now and is not that memorable to most people besides the fact the main character is black. I can dream though.
Endless variants, especially elaborate costumes.
Especially-especially the alternate Dreams from Overture.
There are so many options and Sandman cosplayers tend to stick to the basics.
I'm happier with media that has lack of attention in the community since it's become such a vapid load of shit. I get to keep to my own enjoyment without any assholes to try and ruin it.
nothing would make me more happy than seeing some more Katanagatari love. Ive done emonzaemon before but other than some ppl thinking i was a masked butler or some dude from rwby only a handful of ppl recognized me.
My nigga. I've wanted to cosplay Casper because of the cuteness and the whole bat thing, but I'm chubby and not kawaii. Maybe one day.
I want to see Super bust-a-move cosplays, Primal (that PS2 game) cosplays, and lesser loved Disney movies like Treasure Planet and Atlantis.
That'd be cool as fuck. On the same kind of theme, I would love to cosplay as a Mario character and drive around on one of those mini go karts. Mario doesn't seem to be cosplayed a lot here in the UK actually? Or maybe it has recently, I haven't been to a con in a few years, so idk
+1 For Katanagatari. I still really hope to do the Penguin or Insect Squad. I always try to say hello to anyone who does cosplay it because chances are they think there aren't as many fans.
I cosplayed two characters from Rhythm Heaven! The farmer from Gold and the ping pong player from the first version.
Never seen another person do it though.
I love the simple, silly character designs. They're also right for my sewing skill level, haha.
I wanna see someone do the spiral hair girl from Uzumaki.
Bless you OP for reminding me about Rhythm Heaven cosplay. My boyfriend and I have been trying to come up with couple kind of things we can cosplay together and I had forgotten we had briefly talked about doing the Luchador and the News Reporter from Fever. We are marking this on our Fanime plans now
As for stuff I'd like to see more, I think someone said earlier they'd like to see more Bemani characters which I stand by as well. There are so many good characters and fun designs in Pop'n and Beatmania and I never see people hit that.
Oh man, please post pictures somewhere on here if you guys end up doing that!
I want to cosplay something from Rhythm Heaven with my boyfriend but the only ones I think we could pull off are the waltzing robot and his partner from Waltzatron. But they aren't exactly iconic so I feel like we'd be completely unnoticed ;_;
>that feel when you'll never get a group of the girls together and twilight tales is ignored by the cosplay community.
I wanna do an Ace Combat cosplay like that sometime.
Have a Blaze cosplay for having good taste.
The Double Date couple is pretty iconic but rather boring outfit wise. Grab another dude and do this trio instead
I actually was going to do this a couple of years ago because I had two friends who look like the rap guys, but I had a very bad falling out with one of them recently.
Shit sucks, it would have been a really cool cosplay.
Rune Factory or Harvest Moon characters. I grew up on Harvest Moon, and goddamn, I want to see more people cosplaying them. All I ever see, which is still rare in the first place, are shitty PCs/OCs and fucking Karen.
Rune Factory characters are way more fleshed out and intricate, but I'm far newer to the RF games than the standard HM ones.
My boyfriend and I will be cosplaying as Celia and Kai eventually. We have a few cosplays to finish first but they're pretty high on the list because I absolutely adore Harvest Moon.
We're just doing their regular clothes but I'd love to do her dress from pic related when I've improved my sewing. I think it's absolutely gorgeous.
I'ved cosplayed Jamie from Magical Melody twice already and planning on a third time maybe next year [until I'm damn satisfied by the costume I make].
I have all the material for the main male character from Grand Bazaar and I wanted to do someone from Story of Seasons.
Farming simulating games are life.
I really want to do this, but nobody cosplays Slayers! around here.
Seconding anon above for more Harvest Moon cosplays, I ate that game up as a kid
I'd kill a man to see more Fire Emblem cosplay. None of this Awakening or Fates shit either, I'm talking pre-13, or even pre-6. As a bitter FE oldfag it makes me so sad that people who got into Awakening never bothered with any of the older games so we hardly if ever see them cosplayed.
We need more Rance and co. cosplayers!
Where the CROWDS cosplayers at
I've always wanted to do a cosplay for one of the many pop'n music characters, especially Roku! Also cosplays from Zektbach or Tatsh songs would be amazing to see. Just more rhythm games cosplays in general would be awesome to see.
Watched the anime on cartoon network when I was younger, and I'm in the middle of reading the manga. A lot of the cosplays are pretty sub-par though, I'd love to see cosplays of anyone from the series especially now that there are more resource available for cosplayers...
I've always wished Dark Cloud was more popular. I'm planing to do a Xio cosplay one of these days.
Honestly I wish there were more band based cosplays. I've seen a few My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco ones but most of them aren't very good.
I cosplay Picon and my husband was Jing. He was recognised several times, nobody recognized me except one girl who couldn't remember the characters name.
I would kill for twilight tales to be animated.
Conan! I realize that it's not a great series for cosplaying (mostly casual outfits and few signature ones, characters are defined mainly by facial features) but I love it so and I've seen a total of one cosplay from it. It would be especially awesome if parents who want their kids to cosplay could do some Conan; it's cute, not overly costumey and uncomfortable to wear, got plenty of kids and adults interacting, and even if most kids probably shouldn't read the books they can still sympathize with "kid detective".
I actually have a band/ESC cosplay planned. No idea when I'll pull through with it though.
Tbh wish more people knew about and cosplayed from Lost Odyssey... I need more LO friends other than my brother.
Also seeing more World Conquest Zvezda or WAKFU or in general ANKAMA Games cosplayers would make me imensely happy.
I've always wanted to cosplay Laharl but I don't think it's possible to pull off a barechested character since I have boobs, and my body type is not even close to Laharl-chan's.
>why do demons and angels gotta be so skinny
You could always do female Laharl since it's canon and all!
I would like to see more people cosplay characters from Skies of Arcadia. Specifically Clara
Yes! I get that most of the characters are kind of hard to cosplay for various reasons, but I'd still love to see more!
I'm doing Filia eventually but I'm scared to start because that wig will be a nightmare
Ahhh i love precure. Sadly the friend that got me into it was playing the "I'm ignoring you but you know not in any way tell you what you did to upset me" game. So I ended up just saying goodbye not up for Adult acting like we're in grade school bit. Hoping to get a few close friends into it.
Maybe I am anon, Maybe I am!
I did a not the very best Bloody Marie cosplay this year, though I will remake parts of it and shoot it
I also did Flonne for Halloween, but I didn't finish it in time so I haven't worn it yet because it's way too cold now
That's too bad, I hope you find a group one day! I'm doing a heartcatch group this year
I know most of the stuff is pretty simple (most of them just school uniforms) but where the Nichijou cosplayers at
I've done Hakase myself and have literally never seen anyone else in person cosplaying from it.
Nano is in my cosplay plans for the next year or so!
Hoping to continue to see characters from a series with dwindling popularity.
Sad to see when only a couple of them are, but turned out to be genderbend or crossover of Deadpool or something. Stupid Flanders is not sexy!
Lame probably but I want to see more Banjo Kazooie cosplays + gijinkas. The first and second game brought me so much joy as a little one and I would instantly chill with anyone I met wearing a BK cosplay.
But not Mostflogged's disgusting Gruntilda.
Honestly anything, game or anime, from the late 90s to mid 2000s that aren't from series that got hugely popular and are still regularly cosplayed like Bebop. Eva, or old FF. Those were the greatest years for anime and J-RPGs but they were also the years cosplay was in its baby stage. There weren't as many resources so you had a lot of inaccurate footwear, cheap wig or spray dye, and bad fabric choices. I'd LOVE to see a lot of that stuff redone with today's resources and standards.
Legend of the Dragoon
Grandia, Grandia 2
Skies of Arcadia
Evolution (Dreamcast RPG)
Jet Grind Radio
Crimson Tears (good designs, but bargain bin bullshit)
Shin Megami Tensei
Galerians (more bargain bin)
Digimon season 1-3
Yugioh DM (no fucking female crossplayer shipping trash plz)
Ah! My Goddess
Record of Lodoss War
Martian Successor Nadeisco
Harlock, basically anything Harlock
Crest/Banner of the Stars
The Big O
Candidate for Goddess
With Hunter Robin
Zone of Enders
Di Gi Charat
Full Metal Panic
.hack//SIGN, IMOQ (and classic .hack really)
Heat Guy J
Daphne in the Brilliant Blue (Someone's gotta outdo Bill la Bill))
I mean, I could keep listing but that's a ton already...
I'm making a Vanilla H cosplay from Galaxy Angel but nobody will know who that character is and i'm sad
Far Cry 4. The downside is that there are not a lot of characters, but the characters that are there are interesting. Good for people of many races (lots of POC characters) and women who want to look badass. However some of the costumes can get a bit complicated (Pagan Min, Noore) but theyre cool costumes.
Fucking great game, too.
I know it's a weird game and not that well-known outside the BL genre but I still liked it. But knowing the horrendous yaoi community, I think it's better for me to dream than actually see it in person.
I didn't know anyone actually played Evolution. I have been debating buying that for the dreamcast forever. I cosplayed as Rouge and my sister Accel a few years ago from Powerstone. No one knew who we were, but it was fun. lol. We were both carrying mock power stones too.
i admire you for wishing to cosplay this and if you did, i would recognize you immediately. the sad thing is unless someone watched the movie hundreds of times (which i did) no one would recognize this character. heck even with an alice i still think people would think you're some random character.
but go on and fulfill your dreams!
Legend of Dragoon, Lunar 2, Grandia 2, Chrono Cross, and Star Ocean are all games that I grew up with and I just need more cosplays from them. I actually wanna cosplay from Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Cross.
Check out Twinzik and Korin Cosplay (I think it was Korin that got a large group together). They've got great Chrono Cross cosplays
I'd love to do a Robo Zukin cosplay desu
I've thought of doing a Book of Mormon cosplay, but I'm not sure who I could be or what I could do to make it obvious that I'm from the play and not just some mormon missionary.
You could cosplay one of the missionaries in their 'Turn It Off' outfits, with the sparkly vest! There's also the all-white costumes from 'I Am Africa', and the rock and roll backup missionaries from 'Man Up'
I think Cunningham and McKinley are the more recognizable of the three lead missionaries, so if you don't do a general costume it's really down to them. For Cunningham you could wear a Star Wars backpack and carry a Book of Arnold, and McKinley you could obviously do the vest and maybe also his frilly pink suitcase from near the end of the show.
Sorry this is probably a lot I just love Book of Mormon and it's exciting to see another person who wants to do a cosplay from a Broadway musical
In the vein of Book of Mormon, I wish people did more Broadway/theatre related cosplays in general. Some of my dream cosplays are from musicals but I feel like they're too obscure within con/cosplay communities to get any recognition.
I love that game. Janice is on my list. I remember making a Facebook post and tagging friends. It's a cosplay dream of mine to get a big group together.
>5´7" 107 pounds plumpish
anon I have like 3 of those planned for this year (Fafner, Gunbuster and Rayearth)
also you'd be surprised how many people still cosplay Saint Seiya and CLAMP series and designs (as in the case of Code Geass) in my country
I cosplayed Hajime last year! I wanna wear it again, hopefully I'll have a friend as Rui this time too
I was totally going to do a Conchita cosplay in 2015, but unfortunately couldn't find a good dress for it.
It's such a little known KRPG, but I wish people would cosplay from Astonishia Story
I'd love to do General Akra or Jenas from it, but...
>tfw nobody knows the game
There was a killer group of Nichijou cosplayers last year at Anime Midwest (Yuuko, Mio, & Mai) and I just about cried when I saw them. Their cosplays were flawless and I wish I got a better picture.
I'd love to see more (or any..) Aikatsu cosplayers!
The amount of coords available is honestly never-ending, and almost all of them are incredibly cute.
It sucked being the only non love live cosplayer at an "idol" shoot last year ;-;
>tfw people kept complimenting my "Chitoge" cosplay
I really wish that I got a bunch of people together to go to a con dressed like all the people in the Party Rock Anthem video, back when the song was everywhere.
Really dig when people do music video cosplays.
Blurry picture is blurry but they were complete darlings
Rarely if ever see anyone from Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's which is a shame really
I've always wanted to cosplay Monica from Dark Cloud 2. The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on it is because I'm afraid the wig would be too heavy with that giant ponytail in the back.
Pop'n Music has such great character designs but unfortunately they're not that recognizable. I'm planning on cosplaying Celica's Pop'n Music design at some point.
Blaze is actually my "fuck it, I just wanna be comfy" cosplay! Some day I'd like to add the full G-suit/survival vest/helmet/O2 mask getup to it, but in the meantime, my flight suit is the equivalent of a kigu for me at cons.
It's a shame the good gundam shows will never be popular in the west. So many have pretty outfits, especially turn a and greco
+Anima. Manga with no anime adaption that is pretty much unknown (? at least in my country/community.) I don't have the right features to convincingly pull off any of the characters, but there are some really cute designs (especially some of Nana's outfits). I'd love to see someone tackle realistically pulling off the animal features, but i'd be happy just seeing any +Anima cosplay.
Not entirely related to this thread, but I guess I should ask.
Do you guys think it's bad to cosplay a character from a series that you haven't fully seen? I really like some of the characters I've seen here and would want to cosplay them, but I don't know if I want to commit myself to the whole series (or if I'll even like it). Do you think doing in-depth research on the character and having a basic knowledge of the series is enough, or should I fully commit to a series I want to cosplay from?
If you can spend hours making a costume you can spare a few to watch a show or play a game
There is nothing stopping you just dressing though, as long as you can deal with feeling like a bit of a tit when asked about it
I meant more like is it acceptable if I don't finish it? Certain series I just can't get into watching to completion, and some games are too hard to finish, etc.
I've only cosplayed from series I really like so far but if I don't know every detail about the series will I get chewed out for it?
or anyone from LotGH really.
That was a favourite animu and I feel as though it fell into obscurity ;_;
There is so much possibility for costume design thanks to the aesthetic of that show
As long as you get enough of the major references/characteristics/ understand the role of your character you'll probably be OK. It's unlikely that you'll get a turbo-nerd giving you a pop quiz, though people cosplaying as other characters from the series might copy some meme-ful dialogue with you or something like that.
A few years ago I made the mistake of cosplaying as a character I had no idea about, I didn't even watch the series. Needless to say, I disappointed several crowds of people when they asked me to do a characteristic laugh - something I would have known if I watched the series for a single episode
Unless it is some shonen 8 billion episode thing it really isn't hard to finish a series. If you really feel that you can't just put in on in the background while your working, even if it lacks a dub most shit is so simple you can figure it out without that
>and some games are too hard to finish
your gud needs to git
But really >>8812953 is talking a lot of sense
I wish there were more Katamari series cosplays!
I'd love to get a group together and do some of the cousins one day. I want to do my favorite one on my own but I'm scared nobody will know what it is. But at least in a group people will be able to tell it's from something and not just some weird OC
I'd love to cosplay Dipp, he's my favorite cousin.
I would LOVE to see more Jet Set Radio cosplay, it amazes me that there's so little of it, considering how cool all of the characters look. I'd love to do one myself...It'd be fun to roll around on skates.
I honestly wish RPDR cosplay was a thing. There are so many iconic looks if it was done well anyone who's seen the show could recognize them.
I haven't been to any cons recently, but as a longtime fan of Monolith Soft and their associated series (Xeno/Chrono/Baten Kaitos) and Kunihiko Tanaka's character designs, if I see anyone doing Xenoblade X at Anime Boston this year I will buy them a drink on the spot.
Someone, please. Magic girl idols with lots of diversity and cute concert outfits, yet I've only seen three cosplays for the series since it came out.
I'd really like to see more Suikoden cosplayers. The series has hundreds of characters to choose from their designs can suit pretty much any level of cosplayer - there are a lot of outfits ranging from basic adventurer style to incredibly intricate.
I'd love to see the FF:CC spin-offs get more love. They're Final Fantasy games, so the designs are good, and there's a lot of diversity in them too. The main FF games aren't the only good ones, people.
I'm surprised no one has said 999/VLR!! Especially with Zero Escape 3 being released this year. Except for the occasional Clover, you really never see many cosplays of anyone else.
