For some reason I skipped Vol 0, but hallucination Asuka makes more sense. So I've read all of them. I should say the artwork in Retake is probably the most accurate that I've seen for a fan made doujinshi.

Well in 3.33 Asuka was always thinking about Shinji and refuses to tell him until she saves him from his entry plug at the end, which kind of mirror Misato's actions in End Of Evangelion.

They will be clearly spending alot of time together in 3.0+1.0, so we have to wait to find out.

I honestly don't think Asuka should really have feelings anymore for Shinji at this point. I mean she knew him for like a month and had a crush on him, but that was 14 years ago before he blew up the world for some other girl. But then again she is stuck as a teenager so what do I know.

Also, from my humble point of view, I don't think 3.0+1.0 will be focused on any relation (neither AxS nor SxR) as many people want to believe.

We must have in mind that Evangelion is not a love story, at least not the love for others, but for oneself, so all that obsession for shippings is really insane. Also, although the Rebuild is a completely different version of NGE, I don't think that will differ at all: there might be more fanservice, but definitely nothing as serious as love is.

I mean, this is Hideaki Anno we are talking about, so we should rather expect something strange and surrealist to happen at the end. Maybe something as abstract as EoE, but in a different way.

Can we just high five? Because OMFG, you're so right! It's a DRAMA involving FOURTEEN year old CHILDREN. Not a FUCKING love story! Jeeeeeezus christ.

And I don't honestly 'ship Shinji with anyone but Kaworu and possibly Rei. But little Miss "I'm actually your mom, stuffed in an emotionless shell that fucks your dad" makes that a freaky and gross relationship.

I think that all of the kids are really important to one another because they're the only ones who understand exactly what is going on with the other pilots - that doesn't really necessarily translate to romance.

There are obvious attractions, Shinji and Rei, Asuka to Shinji (because he's really the only male she is in constant contact with after Kaji abandons her with Misato) and Kaworu to Shinji because . . . well, Kaworu just does his thang!

It's a complicated story and it gets endlessly irritating when people try to force it into a love story. I'm like, are we not watching the same fucking stuff?

Honestly, I prefer to think of an ending where Asuka isn't stuck with Shinji because he's a worthless piece of shit.

Aw, that's precious! Our bitter queen with an overly excited puppy like Mari. They're such a funny pair, I think that's why they amuse me so much!
Rei and Asuka always had such a rivalry, but it was one-sided with Rei sorta being not willing to argue. With Mari, it's a bit more fun. She accepts Asuka being a pain in the ass and just kind of gives no fucks about it.

God, I agree so much! If only Reifags weren't so autistic about reboot Rei and Rei Q. I think she's pretty cute, to be honest! She's so warm! Even Asuka wants to be sorta nice to her!

I'm gonna be honest - if you take the reboot out of context with the series, it's honestly pretty nice. I've really enjoyed most of it. Though 3.33 was booooooooring. Not enough Asuka, Mari or Rei! Too much Shinji, lol!
And I really didn't like how they handled future Misato, but I do understand it. If I think about how I would have ended up after being mind fucked like Misato was, the company she spent her life supporting betraying her, finding out they'd basically been abusing the children that she cared for as if they were her own . . . I can definitely understand how she ended up being so cold.

Throughout the 2.22 movie, Asuka glares at Rei when she's spending time Shinji. Always looking at them, like she's jealous or something. Even loses her appetite at one part.

Possibly,I think at best they should reconcile, I don't think a romantic relationship wouldn't be good for either really. I think they both need to move on from the past. In NGE the relation felt more important to the completion of their characters, because they really cover each others weaknesses in many ways. Yet ironically it was their similarity that prevented them from getting together. I don't really see this dynamic in rebuilds. They could pair her up with Mari but that would kinda feel a bit like romance for romance's sake to me. Besides we can't have a relationship in eva without someone or both getting seriously harmed and its hard to see how that would Mari.

My excitement for 3.0+1.0 got 'rebooted' when I went on a 3 am figurine binge on amazon. Sohryu is best Asuka though, followed by eyepatch and jacket Asuka. The final ending of EoE was gloriously subtle on Asuka's reciprocation of Shinji's need for her, and I'm obsessed with it.

As for what you said about EoE, I'm afraid I can't agree with you.

Fistly, I can't see any kind of "reciprocation" on Asuka's side. She has just returned to real world after Instrumentaliry and after having healed herself. When she emerges from LCL, she's a woman who has already come to understand herself and also that wants to live no matter what.

She doesn't "need" Shinji or anyone anymore, as she has understood her own value. She just doesn't need external validation anymore. Also, Asuka had been through a terrible trauma in her childhood, and during NGE, she was driven to desperation and almost-suicide. But at the very end, she manages to heal herself and decides she wants to return to the world. Not because of Shinji, but because of her own will, that's for sure.

And secondly, I also said I couldn't agree with you because I wouldn't say "Shinji needs her". I know the title of the last chapter of EoE is "I Need You", but it's completely generic, and not referring to any couple at all. It just means humans can't be alone and that interaction is necessary, but it perfectly applies to any character (for instance, Ritsuko and Gendou).

Shinji just wants someone to be with him, to understand him and love him unconditionally (like Kaworu did). But he's selfish and doesn't want to give anything in exchange. He doesn't "need Asuka", but I would rather say he just "needs anyone to be with him".

The end is up to very different interpretations, an I'm sure Anno wanted it to be that open. He even said the end is up to everyone, so fan theories are just that, fan theories. But again, being paranoid about couple shipping is completely absurd and kind of pollutes all the serious debates about NGE.

Nevertheless, since you said that last scene is something that you're obsessed with, I would suggest you to read a couple of very well-written analysis about that matter I found to be excellent:

Well at this point Asuka's character arc in rebuild is mainly about Shinji, they removed unnecessary and uncomfortable aspects of Asuka's character like her one sided crush on Kaji. She's much kinder and not egocentric like Soryu. She's very mad at Shinji but she quickly forgets about it at the end, holding his hand and stuff.


She did have feelings for him in 2.22 but we don't know if this is the case now, so we'll see. We're going to have to wait a long while on how they finish this character arc.

Rebuild Asuka's background just kind of ruins her, in my opinion. The whole "I'm still into dolls after my mom killed herself mistaking a doll for me" just seems illogical. She's more typical tsundere than anything else in 2.0. I like her more in 3.0 because she's at least a little bit more hardened and slightly prickly for better reasons since the 2.5 Impact happened.

I just wanna know how did Asuka and Shinji have that moment of intimacy at End of Evangelion, and some how they forget they ever met in begining of 2.22. Unless the choking, caressing of the face and the tears somehow takes place after 3.33 but somewhere between, but I doubt that.

Well I care more than I used to about Rebuild because Hideki Anno is one of my favorite animators who started it in 2006 to kind of reimagine Eva and give himself some satisfaction. Evangelion is quite literally his almost entire life's work. It's his baby.

It sorta seems open to interpretation at this point. Some people think there are enough clues to call it a sequel, some think it's a reimagining of the original series with a bunch of new shit thrown in, it could be an AU type of thing. Hell if I know.
The art is gorgeous, though. I really love just watching it and, despite the pissy Reifags being butthurt about Rei vs Rei Q, I like most of the characters and their portrayals.
Though I hate the way Misato has turned out. It seems really OOC.

Misato's probably just beings cold to Shinji due to her guilt and regret of cheering on Shinji when he was getting Rei out of the angel core (and thus initiating 2.5 Impact). I don't think she harbors any geninue spite towards Shinji himself, but basically going through ANOTHER Impact event. He just happened to be the one to do it.

Shinji is the messiah character of Evangelion. What makes him special is that hes 100% human with zero divine aspects but is pretty much tasked with either saving or destroying the world. So being the chosen one but having no foresight as to what his purpose is or why HE has to be the one to do it is what causes him to pussy out.

I agree. Maybe this time we'll see something give Shinji the will to live like other anon's point on his sudicial mood. In EoE, Shinji succeeded in saving the world because he finally realized through Yui/Rei/Lillith that he would rather feel pain than to live in a world that doesn't recognize the pushing and pulling interactions between people and one where no one is a special individual, even though Shinji is relatively unnoticed, except by special bonds built between Misato, the Rei he knew, and Asuka (even though at least we know in NGE that she reflects Shinji's fear of acknowledging their "emotions" toward one another, to try and not aggravate anti-shipposters.) Shinji is absolutely normal as a Lillin human bean, and wants to live and also love and be loved as one. P.S. I JUST finally received my Platinum collection today, so I can't wait to start reading those little booklets and all of the info I've missed out on! Also, it came with a Rei figure, which is really lovely (but I wish it had been Asuka!) but this is my very fave Eva figures in my current collection. They're both so darn cute!

I always saw Kaworu as a fallen angel who fell in love with a pure-hearted, innocent human boy and it broke his heart to see him being so miserable.
