Last week I was offered an internship position at the M&A department of a Buldge Bracket Bank. I hope this is my way in to the investment banking industry. Does anyone have some advice for me? How should I prepare for the internship? I've read a lot what I'll have to expect during my internship, but still can someone post here his past experience?
I am considering going this route. Not for the money, but for the exit opportunities that IB provides. I think a career in PE or HF after a couple years in a bank would be worth. Am I wrong?
Yeah I know I'll be living in my office. But this is what I really like. Pay is not the main reason. It's a good support for M&A, but not the main reason. As said I love this industry.
Yeah the best M&A bankers jump to PE or HF (normally after 3 years of being analyst). But it is really difficult. Just think that bankers are the top students of the top universities. So you actually want to compete against (some of) them for a few PE or HF positions, because these companies are usually pretty small. Other good opportunities are sometimes Consultants (strategy or finance), Corporate Finance at the Big 4 or Corporate Finance at an industry company. Idk why, but I am actually not attracted to PE or HF. I prefer to pursue a lifelong at an IB.
