Most employers will ask for a social security number and/or work permit to hire you as a real employee. You can get around this by setting up a business and asking them to pay you as a subcontractor. Alternatively, you could get paid with cash, but it means they'll pay you less (because of tax liabilities and legal risk). It can be done, but you need an employer who's understanding about the situation and would cut you a break.

Regarding housing, if you want to live in semi-decent housing, the landlords will want to do a background check and look into your credit history. But you could probably get away with showing your passport and making up a story about how you're there only "for a year". Less decent places are more risky, but ask less questions.

Medical care is actually pretty easy. If you get in a serious accident, hospitals are legally required to provide treatment and stabilize you. For less serious issues, clinics are easy to find and they'll provide treatment. However, you'll be paying for treatment yourself. They may ask for an ID or social security number, but it's not required.

Buying a car is EZ as fuck. Either from a dealership or from a private seller.

If you're an immigrant, I highly suggest you find an enclave of your ethnic group and start there. People of your ethnic group are more likely to help you get a job and provide some basic social support. Small towns tend to be more homogeneous "white" or "black" Americans, and are less likely to cut you a break or have prejudice against your particular ethnic group.
