Could a gas company, personally fund electric cars, build solar farms somewhere with plenty of sunlight, and switch to using that as their product, in an attempt to decrease pollution, yet still make a profit?
I believe implementing the infrastructure is quite expensive, so the capital would be high
I bet they have the technology to do so already, but won't because they're making bank already, why change what's working?
There's also a lot of people that wouldn't allow it and politics, I think that's why electric cars aren't fully out yet
depends on how much land their willing to buy and having no returns on just extending their gas burning production. If they are not getting solar subsidies then the answer is absolutely not.

>could a gas company stop being a gas company and become a charity instead?
solar is atrociously inefficient and unreliable. only way to stay profitable in that shitty business is collecting massive government subsidies as your main source of income.
