I already told him I won't pay shipping. The item was described perfectly. I never mentioned a box and item was sold used. Can anyone with amazon experience tell me who's in the wrong here? He's very slow at responding and its just frustrating knowing this going nowhere and I have $700 I can't spend.

Working with him is the problem. I already told him I would gladly refund it if he were to ship it undamaged. He sends me one email a day. So constant communication is difficult. He already requested the refund on amazon though. I'm just not sure what to do just yet.
