How are we related to the state of the economies of China and USA?
How do you intend to profit of them?
What can we do to profit?
Do we invest in pic related and pray to the market gods?
Are we going to be experiencing said recession ourselves?

NZ Economist here. Ask me questions.
Pic related my qualification. Have experience working as an analyst for the gubament and some private sector stuff.
>>1053934
Noone ok?
OK I'll talk about some NZ economy in general.
In general it's backwards. A lot of production methods taken for granted in EU/US are not heard of here. Productivity is low as fuck. Everyone has reasonably high incomes mainly on the back of various protections.
>>1053942
How competitive is the NZ economy?
post resume I guess?
>>1053945
Not very. Most of domestic manufacturing has been wiped out. Only agriproducts remain. We do a lot of diary/meat exports, but now that TPPA has been signed this will probably take a hit. Diary has been in a bit of decline domestically since the opening of european markets to no-cap productions.
In terms of services. We got cheaper that EU/US/Aus eduction of the same quality. Banking/finance is woefully behind the times. The tech industry is... a bit all over the place. There are definitely some bright spots, but on the whole it is nothing to brag about.

sorry I was showering then stretching, I have a bunch of questions, hope I dont flood you.
• How does the decline in the US/China stock market affect us, if the DJI continues to fall like this could we expect to see a similar decline in our indexes?
•What is our economy GDP based on, dairy, agriculture and tourism?
•What exactly does our economy consist of, it seems rather empty here and I have a hard time finding stocks to pick because I just don't see 'anything' really
•Is it worthwhile investing in NewZealand? For a tiny economy what is the best way to make money?
•Opinions on our only ETF fund [FNZ ticker]?
•What do you personally invest in/see as lucrative
•Is it possible to make good returns in the New Zealand market only?
•Do we have economic cycles like everyone else? Like for example, the 2008 global financial crisis did affect everyone, but in retrospect it 'felt' like it didn't really hurt at all for us, feels like unemployment, wages and all that stay pretty much the same
>>1053982
Oh yeah and I forgot to add, thoughts on OP picture for oil? or does this oil business not affect us, only the US since they are one of the major exporters
>>1053982
>• How does the decline in the US/China stock market affect us, if the DJI continues to fall like this could we expect to see a similar decline in our indexes?
Stock market is a random walk influenced by players' biases and liquidity needs. Taking it for any kind of economic indicator is damn stupid in my opinion. When all the developed markets fall ours will fall too.
>•What is our economy GDP based on, dairy, agriculture and tourism?
Biggest component by value is services - good chunk of it real estate in various forms ~25-30%. Agri in various forms ~5%, manufacturing ~10%
>•What exactly does our economy consist of, it seems rather empty here and I have a hard time finding stocks to pick because I just don't see 'anything' really
google "stats nz gdp"
>•Is it worthwhile investing in NewZealand? For a tiny economy what is the best way to make money?
Depends on the investment. Sucking dicks.
>•Opinions on our only ETF fund [FNZ ticker]?
Shit sux. Would not buy.
>•What do you personally invest in/see as lucrative
Houses, then leverage into working with startups.
>•Is it possible to make good returns in the New Zealand market only?
Good? As in 10%+ on regular basis? Unless you have a monopoly I would say no. Most of the successfull businesses in NZ are either monopolies or close to it, or exporters. NZ market is too small and poor to deliver good results. Some form of B2B is possible I guess if you have a good product.
>>1051799
where's the cah?
>>1053982
>•Do we have economic cycles like everyone else? Like for example, the 2008 global financial crisis did affect everyone, but in retrospect it 'felt' like it didn't really hurt at all for us, feels like unemployment, wages and all that stay pretty much the same
Yes we do have cycles and we dd suffer after gfc. We bounced back after it a bit faster than other nations, but it was done on various international factors aligning favourably to NZ. Diary was one, Australian mining boom was another - excess population left for Aus kept our wages a bit up allowed for some flexibility in the labour market, Chch earthquake, insurance worked generated a massive amount of jobs. On the back of it all low interest rates have kept a favourable consumer environment.
However now it all is not looking too flash. We are heading in the same deflationary waters as everyone else.
>Oh yeah and I forgot to add, thoughts on OP picture for oil? or does this oil business not affect us, only the US since they are one of the major exporters
Should generate some increase in discretionary spending, tourism international and domestic. It has come through in the low infaltion figures the other day.

Whats a cah
>>1054016
>•What do you personally invest in/see as lucrative
>Houses, then leverage into working with startups.
Is houses really a thing thats here to stay, surely the over pricing because of the Asians will be corrected eventually, our average house price is liek 6.2x the average wage which is almost as inflated as New York City, when its supposed to be around 3x.
Correct me if im wrong, but since you said housing are a big part of our GDP couldnt we experience a mini crash like murica did in 07/08
not sure if you've watched the movie 'the big short' but couldnt it be possible to pull something off like that
>startups.
What sector/field, computing/
Also, do you have any personal investments in NZ or do you focus on international markets, i've got about 6k laying around and was thinking about purchasing some VOO

>Is houses really a thing thats here to stay, surely the over pricing because of the Asians will be corrected eventually, our average house price is liek 6.2x the average wage which is almost as inflated as New York City, when its supposed to be around 3x.
Overpriced housing and Asian investment is an Auckland meme. Christchurch here broski. We only had like one year of double digit growth in prices since the GFC. Currently undergoing correction after the post quake build up. Not expecting a large correction here. Possibly slow one in the medium term due to overbuild, but in the long term it will be positive.
>Correct me if im wrong, but since you said housing are a big part of our GDP couldnt we experience a mini crash like murica did in 07/08
If there is a crash in prices it will be bad. Whether or not one will happen is, well it's unknown. I do not think that it will happen unless there is a sudden credit tightening. This has a lot more impact that Asian money launderers, no matter what Winston or Labour says.
>not sure if you've watched the movie 'the big short' but couldnt it be possible to pull something off like that
I don't watch meme movies. Our housing market is pretty damn different from US. If you don't believe have a look at comparative pricing of new builds between the two.
>What sector/field, computing/
Whatever really. Interested in RocketLab.
>Also, do you have any personal investments in NZ or do you focus on international markets, i've got about 6k laying around and was thinking about purchasing some VOO
Me and gf have about $25k in cash + kiwisaver. Building a house right now. Want to leverage it later into said start ups.
I have $850 to put away and an ASB Securities account.
What stock do I buy. 4chan pls decide for me,
>>1054056
Cool, thanks for the input.
also >kiwisaver
isnt this shit a joke, its like 3ish percent [even though you said you hated FNZ it still produced about 7percent p.a]
>>1054059
>$850
Id say you need 5k minimum to even make an 'investment', you could try speculation with buttcoins if youd like with $850
>>1053934
>not Otago
>>1054070
I was doing it part time while working. I did my BCom/BSc in UNSW.

speaking of which, is this expensive or cheap
>>1054073
>What's the commission like on ASB Securities?
They take 0.3% per trade.
>>1054069
Lol I get ya but still. I can just leave it in my savings account but 2.5% or whatever is just ass.
I'm hoping bitcoins drop back down to about ~200 again and I might jump in. Although there's quite a lot of (negative) drama surrounding them at the moment with an ex-developer publicly denouncing the system. Idk.
>>1054086
Personally what I thought about was just going to a casino and starting my initial capital, just yolo on roulette HOPING that you get a streak that lands you on 10k, after that exit casino and proceed to invest.
probably worst advice ever but meh yolo
>>1054108
Ok going to Skycity right now
>>1054119
post results
Does anyone who's been to Skycity before know of general etiqueette? I've never been to a casino in my life.
>>1054173
Pretty sure everyone there are degenerates.
Are you actually going? Post results of starting and end cash if real
>>1054177
Lol I was kidding at first but I might do.
I live in akl central so it's only like a 15 min walk. They might not let me in because Im half drunk.
>>1054180
Bro seriously don't gamble. Gamble is bad desu
>>1054185
hmmm
>>1054185
>>1054190
Its not a bad idea to do it once if you dont have debt, the idea of being able to get lucky with a ~49% chance of doubling up every time (until you start getting greedy) is pretty cool
although, the catch is if youre lucky enough to win a bit and youve made a net profit, you can't ever play again (this is where gamblers go wrong lol)
>>1054212
More practical version:
Case1: You lost on first try
>Proceed to walk out and never go to a casino ever again in your life
Case2:
>Win first try and double up
>Only bet that initial profit
>Keep betting with that profit till you either make a satisfactory amount by luck or go bust
Case3:
>Get lucky and double
>Leave with 2x profit
>>1054215
Lol Ok
I'm gonna play a game of csgo and try sober up.
Im then gonna catch an uber to skycity. Get $300 out of an ATM and put 150 on black. We'll see how it goes.
>>1054229
Wtf we have ubers, didn't even know that, playing dota2 myself, post after you get back
On my way now. Gonna get out 300.
Put 100 on black. If I win I leave.
If I lose I put another 100 on black. If I lose again I leave.
I put down 100 on black. Won.
Leaving with 200.
Never doing that again hahaha holy shit.
>>1052262
Depends largely on immigration and chain migration, always has. And debt. Lots of debt. We extorted shitloads of debt right from the beginning. We were the Too Big to Fail country.
Our country was literally modernised in 35 years. That's why most of our cities are overambitious disappointments.

Good man. Next time you would lose.
