Well, Ethereum is a turing complete blockchain, which means that any javascript programmer can easily build decentralised applications using it in a secure way, that takes a fraction of the time it would if they had to use bitcoin sidechains or other ugly hacks.

It opens the way for DAO's decentralised autonomous organisations, basically companies and businesses that replace all admin and corporate governance functions with computer code.

This means you can build for example a decentralised uber, which is impossible to shut down, has no back office costs, no CEO to pay which means both the driver gets a better rate and the passenger gets a cheaper price. also it's unbannable because there would be no central server to shut down.
